Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator
Chapter 263: Opposing Organization
While Lin Ye was organizing his thoughts, the sky suddenly turned dark.
This was very abnormal because it was currently afternoon, and the sky shouldn't suddenly darken. Even if it were cloudy, there should have been some warning signs.
So Lin Ye looked up.
"...Huh?"
He didn't see the sun, nor did he see dark clouds. Instead, what filled his entire vision was a mountain range of rotting flesh and blood enveloping the entire sky.
That crimson-black decaying mountain range floated brazenly in the sky, completely unscientific and unreasonable, occupying Lin Ye's entire field of vision.
Lin Ye stepped backward while looking up. Compared to accepting that everything before his eyes was real, Lin Ye would rather believe he had gone insane.
Pieces of rotting flesh and blood rained down to the ground like precipitation. That flesh and blood transformed into squirming humanoid forms that pounced on the nearest pedestrians. One of these humanoids landed right in front of Lin Ye.
The flesh humanoid emitted miserable wails as it approached Lin Ye step by step. Dripping flesh and blood fell to the ground, emitting a putrid smell. Its speed was fast—faster than an ordinary person running at full sprint.
Lin Ye retreated to the outer wall of the police station building. The flesh humanoid was now less than half a meter away from him. Just like on the bus earlier, he wanted to do something but found himself completely powerless.
"You can kill it. It's not difficult."
A familiar voice sounded beside Lin Ye's ear, but he couldn't recall where he had heard it before.
The flesh humanoid stopped in front of Lin Ye. The entire world seemed to have been put on pause, frozen in a single moment.
"I can't touch it! I don't have any weapons!"
Lin Ye roared inwardly.
He had witnessed what happened to those passengers after being touched by the charred humanoids on the bus. He didn't want to end up like that.
"The weapon has always been in your hand."
The voice continued.
Lin Ye suddenly felt a hard object in his grasp. Instinctively, he stabbed the hard object into the chest of the flesh humanoid. The hard object pierced through its chest, and the flesh humanoid shattered and disappeared, leaving behind a transparent crystal on the ground.
[Obtained Portal Fragment*1]
A line of text suddenly appeared before Lin Ye's eyes, making him question the reality of this world.
"Pick up the fragment from the ground."
The voice sounded again.
Lin Ye looked around but couldn't find the source of the voice. In his hand, he held a worn-out metal fishing rod—it was this fishing rod that had stabbed the flesh humanoid to death.
"I won't pick it up unless you tell me who you are."
Lin Ye spoke to the empty air.
"Suit yourself. Anyway, if you don't collect enough fragments later, you'll be the one regretting it."
The voice sounded so nonchalant it nearly laughed.
"...Fine, I'll listen to you."
Lin Ye used his sleeve to pick up the crystal from the ground. Upon contact with him, the crystal disappeared, and another line of text appeared before his eyes.
[Obtained Colorless Fragment*1]
"Someone's coming. Those people should explain the situation here to you, but that's not important. You can join them to help each other, but your goal is to kill those things you just encountered and obtain enough portal fragments."
After saying this, the voice completely disappeared, and along with it, the metal fishing rod in Lin Ye's hand vanished.
A van pulled over by the roadside, and several young men wearing black trench coats got out of the van, quickly approaching Lin Ye.
"Where's the Void Entity? Didn't you say he was attacked by a Void Entity?"
The leading young man with yellow hair spoke into his phone.
"What? He already killed it? He's already awakened?"
Yellow Hair looked at Lin Ye in astonishment. This was the first time he had encountered a newcomer who could directly kill a Void Entity.
"Hello, I'm a member of the Anti-Void Entity Organization. Void Entities are the monsters you just eliminated. That monstrous thing in the sky is also a special Void Entity. If you don't want to be killed by Void Entities, you'd better come with us."
Yellow Hair extended an invitation to Lin Ye.
"Okay, my mind is very confused right now. I hope you can tell me what's actually happening."
Lin Ye followed Yellow Hair into the van.
The sky suddenly brightened. The flesh and blood mountain range in the sky disappeared, and all the pedestrians who had been attacked by the flesh humanoids returned to normal, as if everything that had just happened was Lin Ye's hallucination.
"Poor things. They have no idea what happened."
Yellow Hair, sitting beside Lin Ye, said while looking out the window.
"Will those attacked pedestrians die later?"
Lin Ye thought of the passengers on the bus. After being ignited by the monsters, they had also returned to normal, but soon after, they encountered that car accident.
"Not for now. That was a very special Void Entity. Don't ask too many questions—I can't explain it clearly. When we reach the base, specialists will answer all your questions."
Yellow Hair wasn't dealing with a newcomer for the first time. Most newcomers who encountered Void Entities for the first time had unstable mental states, and casually revealing information might cause them to have mental breakdowns.
"Okay."
Lin Ye leaned back in his seat. The fact that he wasn't the only one who could see monsters relaxed him considerably.
The Anti-Void Entity Organization's base was located in an asylum.
When the van drove into the asylum, Lin Ye thought he was about to be locked up.
If Yellow Hair hadn't looked more like an energetic young man from the asylum, Lin Ye definitely wouldn't have followed him upstairs.
"Those of us who can see Void Entities—we Void Breakers—are easily mistaken for mentally ill by ordinary people. After all, we can see things normal people can't. So the organization simply sent people to infiltrate the asylum and established our base inside it. Many organization members joined after being sent here, while others came here seeking help after seeing Void Entities and joined the organization after testing."
Yellow Hair had clearly said these words many times before.
"Indeed a good choice."
Lin Ye was brought by Yellow Hair to the door of a psychological counseling room. Yellow Hair gently knocked on the door.
Knock knock.
"Come in."
A woman's gentle voice came from inside.
"You go in by yourself. Sister Qi will answer your questions."
Yellow Hair sat on the bench outside the counseling room, signaling for Lin Ye to enter alone.
Lin Ye pushed open the door and entered the counseling room. Inside sat a female doctor wearing a white coat.
She appeared to be around thirty years old, with long hair flowing over her shoulders and a gentle smile on her face.
"Mr. Lin, please have a seat. May I call you Lin Ye?"
Doctor Qi said with a smile.
"Whatever. Can you tell me now what Void Entities are?"
Lin Ye wasn't in the mood for small talk.
"Void Entities are creatures that only Void Breakers can see. They suddenly appear in this world, cause certain effects, and then disappear. These effects lead to related people being harmed or even killed. All known casualties are related to Void Entities, such as the car accident and decaying mountain range you encountered today."
"Accidents, illnesses, murders, natural deaths... all of these are caused by Void Entities. They are like invisible hands of rules, controlling the entire world."
"If no one could see them, this world would continue operating like this. But Void Breakers who can see the real world have emerged."
"Only Void Breakers can see Void Entities, and only Void Breakers can fight against Void Entities. Some Void Breakers who want to change the current situation gathered together, and thus the Anti-Void Entity Organization was born."
Doctor Qi said calmly.
