"Then let's go up together. I feel like I'd die even faster if I separated from you."

Lin Ye definitely didn't want to part from the Captain.

"Okay, we'll just take a quick look upstairs. If there's any problem, I'll get you out of here."

Little Qi was the first to enter the unfinished building. Though her legs weren't long, she walked quite fast.

Lin Ye followed behind Little Qi, silently memorizing the unfinished building's layout and structure.

The two quickly reached the fifth floor, which was completely empty except for several load-bearing columns.

With no additional walls, the space offered very open visibility, allowing them to see directly out to the sky outside.

"This is indeed strange. There don't seem to be any Void Entities here."

Little Qi couldn't sense any presence of Void Entities.

Lin Ye scanned their surroundings, the emptiness making him extremely uneasy.

"Can Void Entities attack from long distance?"

Lin Ye suddenly pulled Little Qi backward with force. She didn't resist, as she also felt something wasn't right about this place.

Thump!

A bullet struck exactly where Little Qi had been standing moments before. If Lin Ye hadn't pulled her back, that bullet would have hit her.

It wasn't until they retreated to the fourth floor that the continuous gunfire from above finally stopped.

"When I joined the Resistance Organization, nobody mentioned we'd be having gunfights with enemies."

Lin Ye didn't believe Void Entities would use firearms, nor did they have any need for them.

"My phone has no signal... This is the first time I've encountered this situation!"

Little Qi rarely fought against humans and had never battled enemies with guns before, so she was somewhat panicked now.

"Don't panic. Can your talent ability take out enemies from a distance?"

Lin Ye asked.

Several snipers were ambushed in the surrounding buildings - they couldn't run outside now.

"No, my talent ability mainly works against Void Entities. But if they get close enough, I might be able to do something."

Little Qi suddenly remembered that organization members had been frequently disappearing recently. She had previously assumed those members encountered dangerous Void Entities, but now it seemed likely these people were involved.

"Then we can only wait here for them to come to us."

Lin Ye had no other options either. He wasn't familiar with Void Weapons yet, and even if he could summon the Fishing Rod, he couldn't possibly fight against modern weapons with just a fishing rod.

"They're coming."

Little Qi closed her eyes. After a short while, intense gunfire and the sound of heavy objects falling suddenly erupted from downstairs.

"I knocked out several enemies. We can go down and take their weapons."

Little Qi said as she opened her eyes.

"Okay, do you know who these people are?"

Lin Ye couldn't understand what these people wanted. The Resistance Organization's enemies were Void Entities - these people couldn't possibly be working for Void Entities, could they?

"I don't know. This is my first time encountering this situation too. We need to report this information quickly to prevent more organization members from being attacked by them."

Little Qi led Lin Ye to find some enemies wearing camouflage uniforms who had already been knocked out by her.

But they were all still alive. The Resistance Organization's purpose was to fight Void Entities and protect ordinary people. Little Qi had never killed anyone and naturally wouldn't directly kill them.

Lin Ye acquired some firearms from these people, and additionally discovered that they all carried tranquilizer guns.

"It seems they were planning to capture you alive."

Lin Ye didn't think these tranquilizer guns were intended for him.

"Capture me alive?"

Little Qi didn't understand the purpose of capturing her alive.

"I think I've figured out their goal. They're capturing Void Breakers, probably intending to study the principle of how Void Breakers can see Void Entities."

Lin Ye loaded ammunition into the firearms. He definitely didn't want to be captured by these people. Just from their methods, he could imagine the consequences of being caught by them.

"Why would they do this? We could cooperate with research!"

Little Qi asked puzzledly.

"Probably has to do with their research methods."

Hearing footsteps approaching from downstairs again, Lin Ye casually tossed the grenade he had just acquired down to the lower floor.

Boom!

The grenade's power was average, only injuring several camouflage-clad figures.

Little Qi closed her eyes, and the sound of heavy objects falling echoed from downstairs once more.

But this time, many more camouflage-clad figures came up than before. Although Little Qi knocked out some, numerous camouflage-clad figures still charged up to the fourth floor via the staircase.

With Little Qi using her ability nearby, Lin Ye could only hide behind cover and exchange gunfire with these camouflage-clad figures. But even though his shooting was unexpectedly accurate, he couldn't stop the increasing number of camouflage-clad figures rushing up to the fourth floor.

Some dark shadows appeared among those camouflage-clad figures. Any camouflage-clad figure touched by these dark shadows would soon die from various causes.

Among these, the bullets Lin Ye fired were one of the primary reasons.

Little Qi continued striving to knock out approaching camouflage-clad figures, but her speed was still too slow. Before long, they would be trapped behind cover by the camouflage-clad figures.

"What are you doing? I told you to eliminate those Void Entities, not clean up this trash."

That voice sounded in Lin Ye's ear again.

"They're trying to kill me! They outnumber us, and I can't block bullets!"

At this distance, Lin Ye simply couldn't fight back.

"How do you know you can't block bullets without trying?"

The voice said again.

Numerous camouflage-clad figures charged into the cover area with their weapons raised, all aiming their weapons at Lin Ye and Little Qi.

Dark shadows moved among the camouflage-clad figures. One camouflage-clad figure touched by a dark shadow suddenly slipped on level ground, his finger pulling the trigger, causing the firearm to discharge and mow down a row of camouflage-clad figures who had been touched by dark shadows.

The remaining camouflage-clad figures were startled, thinking Little Qi had controlled that camouflage-clad figure to fire, so they all aimed their gun muzzles at Little Qi.

Some dark shadows also approached the two, seemingly ready to touch them at any moment.

Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang...

The camouflage-clad figures opened fire. The pressure from their comrades continuously dying around them forced them to temporarily forget their superiors' orders - now they just wanted to kill these two monsters.

Little Qi opened her eyes. She had actually been restraining those dark shadows all along, otherwise everyone here would have died already. Now without her restraint, those dark shadows began rampaging through the crowd, quickly touching all the camouflage-clad figures.

With bullets approaching, Little Qi wanted to do something, but it was already too late.

Lin Ye suddenly positioned himself in front of Little Qi. He was wearing a yellow hooded raincoat and holding a worn metal fishing rod.

The bullets were deflected by the raincoat, with ricochets and accidents killing all the camouflage-clad figures present.

Numerous dark shadows lunged toward Lin Ye. Little Qi hurriedly reached out to restrain those dark shadows, but as camouflage-clad figures died in large numbers, the surrounding dark shadows multiplied, compressing their living space to just a few square meters.

"I'm almost exhausted! I'll push them away for you - escape while you can! Don't worry about me! Otherwise we'll both die here!"

Little Qi gasped and shouted loudly.

"No need! Hold on a little longer! Someone will create an opportunity for us! When that happens, I'll escape with you! You help me block the dark shadows!"

Lin Ye also shouted back loudly.
