CHAPTER 997: BUBONIC MIMICS (2).

"Shit..."

Just when he thought the situation had become bad, Li heard a crack.

Then a loud boom as one of the {Bubonic Mimics} behind him exploded into fine powder.

He couldn’t resist letting out a loud, "Damn."

In the sky overhead, Jenny let the cartridge of her enhanced bullets fall onto Leo’s back.

The runes on the side of her rifle lit up again as she took aim,

"Focus, Li. A single one might not be a threat to you, but we are dealing with a whole nest of them here."

Li chuckled, "You are right. Seems like I’ll have to get serious."

Jenny smirked, "What’s this? You haven’t been serious this whole time?"

Li’s expression fell, "Of course I haven’t."

Even more runes on his body lit up.

He exhaled sharply, the power of his breath enough to tear a perfect circle through a metal sheet.

The flames burning on his fists began to glow even brighter, spreading all the way to his forearms.

He shot forward.

Like a firefly, Li let his limbs fly out.

The {Bubonic Mimics} were not dummies that stood still. Each and every single one of them was strange, with most of them having different proportions and abilities.

A Mimic immediately dropped to the ground.

Its stone limbs began to hirl around as it dug into the earth faster than a sand worm.

Another had its limbs morph into stone weapons as it charged at him.

Some lunged into the sky, while another grew several arms and began crawling towards him at a frightening speed.

From the sky, thunderous plasma bullets fell like rain, each one accurately striking through the heads and backs of the Mimics. Although they were odd creatures, their bodies weren’t very powerful, so a single bullet was more than enough to handle one.

Li was like a fire storm. His hands and feet cut through the hard stone like it was not stone but butter.

Ever punch he sent out creTed a powerful shockwave that shattered even more Mimic behind into dust.

His abilities possesed the kind of firepower that was well suited for dealing with large number of weaker enemies. A single blow could take out droves of them.

Still, the {Bubonic Mimics} seemed endless.

With every one he shattered to pieces, three more seemed to fill its place, these ones with even weirder, unpredictable abilities.

Very quickly, Li found himself on the verge of being overwhelmed.

Luckily, he was not the only one fighting.

A loud call came from overhead as Leo, the enormous {Blood Skyray} swooped down with Jenny on its back.

It opened its gigantic maw and scooped up a bunch of the mimics into its mouth before chewing.

Hearing the bone-chilling sounds, Li couldn’t help the shiver of horror that ran down his spine.

The Skyray seemed oblivious to this as it circled back in the air for another dive.

Plenty {Bubonic Mimics} took to the skies.

Some of them spouted gusts of fire, some jets of water and blades of wind as they attacked the Mutant Beast from all sides.

Maintaining her balance, Jenny barely moved an inch as she fired out shot after shot calmly.

Her bullets were so powerful, they seemed to vaporize everything they came into contact with, including the stone flesh of the Mimics.

It was terrifying to think about what would happen if he was the one standing on the other end of the muzzle.

Li felt a cold sweat run down his back.

He folded his arm and heaved it back, punching a mimic’s head right off.

Another one tried coming at him from behind, but with a spinning kick, he cut through that as well.

He couldn’t help but frown.

Although they were cutting through them quickly, it wasn’t nearly fast enough.

"It might be time from some area of effect spells. Jenny, cover me." Li said as he began chanting.

"Roger that." Jenny muttered.

Li grabbed a Mimic by the hand and began swinging even as he changed, knocking dozens over all at once.

As he did, the wind flow surrounding them began to increase in intensity rapidly.

As the tempo of his chants increased, Li let the mimic in his hand go. Its body spun wildly in the air several times before smashing against a distant cluster of rocks.

If the continuous impact with its kin had not killed the damned thing, it most definitely was dead now.

A deep rumbling came from the distance as an even larger cluster of boulders and rocks began rising from the ground.

A big one was coming.

Despite that, Li and Jenny didn’t seem bothered or surprised.

They simply kept attacking the ones gathered around them.

The wind continued to intensity until the Mimics could barely retain their footing.

Several of those that had taken to the skies were being swirled around violently.

The ones that fell to the ground were brutally smashed to pieces while those that weren’t could simply only wait for an inevitable destruction.

The boss mimic was finally done assembling itself.

Its back curved as it let out a terrible screech into the corpse-dust covered heavens. This one didn’t appear humanoid. Instead, its form was like an enormous stone dragon, or drake since it had no wings.

The {Bubonic Stone Drake Mimic} stretched its dark maw wide open.

The crimson and purple veins on its rocky flesh began to glow brightly as a ball of energy began to build up in its maw.

At the same time, Li was finally done with chanting his incantations.

The viollent gusts of wind gathered around him all died out instantly.

No. They didn’t die down.

Instead, they all collapsed in and gathered around his fists.

Around his fists were high density, extremely condensed fists of pressurized air just waiting for the trigger.

There was a momentary spark around his fists.

Taking a stance, Li felt his bones groaned under the pressure.

He threw out the blows simultaneously.

The world was instantly filled with bright light, as two pillars of molten plasma shot out, completely incinerating everything in their path.

Including the entire body of the {Bubonic Stone Drake Mimic}.
