Chapter 52: Chen Xinghe
CHAPTER 52: CHAPTER 52: CHEN XINGHE
The news of the island on the fifteenth of July caused a sensation in Divine Land, and in a very short time, almost everyone knew about this hidden Secret Realm.
Another thing that caused a sensation was the matter of the Secret Technique created by the Emperor Ancestor remaining on the island, and that technique had already been obtained by a woman named Wang Lian.
By the time Chen Guan returned home, this news had already spread everywhere.
Returning to his own small courtyard, he pushed the door open and saw his father, Chen Xinghe, trimming the excess branches off the bonsai.
"Why are you only coming back after so many days? Did you encounter some troubles?" Chen Xinghe, upon seeing Chen Guan, put down the scissors in his hand and asked earnestly.
Chen Guan sat beside Chen Xinghe and went over in detail his transmission to the island on the fifteenth of July and all the things he encountered.
"So, was the news of the fifteenth of July island and Wang Lian obtaining the ’Afang Sutra’ spread by you?" Chen Xinghe said thoughtfully.
"Not exactly, it was spread by Ji Nanhong, and after the Great Black Heaven’s Fifth Peak, I haven’t had any contact with Wang Lian. It was Ji Nanhong who took her and everyone to find the Teleportation Array." Chen Guan replied.
"Well done." Chen Xinghe smiled approvingly, "Not staying on the fifteenth of July island was the right choice. Compared to the resources there, these actions of yours will save you from many unnecessary problems."
"There are still some troubles now because of Ji Nanhong, I’m worried the Ji Family might investigate our family. Although I’ve instructed Ji Nanhong not to publicly disclose our relationship, I can’t guarantee there won’t be issues from her side." Chen Guan voiced his concerns.
"What you’ve done will only make Ji Nanhong and her family more suspicious of your origins, motives, and background." Chen Xinghe chuckled, "I know what you’re worried about. I’m telling you about my identity and background because you’re already an adult. You’re entitled to know the matters of your family, and capable of making your own decisions. It’s not meant to burden you or make you overly cautious."
"But being cautious isn’t a bad thing, you’ve already done well." Chen Xinghe placed a hand on Chen Guan’s shoulder, looked into his eyes, and earnestly said, "Don’t worry about my identity issue. Do what you want to do without fearing investigation. Your old man can handle it; you just need to watch out for one thing."
"What thing?" Chen Guan asked.
"Don’t let anyone see the scar on the sole of your left foot. That’s the only thing that could expose your identity." Chen Xinghe said sternly.
"Can’t it be taken care of?" Chen Guan knew it couldn’t, but he just wanted to understand why.
"The person who injured your left foot used a unique method. Even if the scar were taken care of, those who understand the technique could still recognize it." Chen Xinghe sighed.
"Who exactly injured my foot? I have no memory of it, it must’ve happened when I was very young?" Chen Guan pondered and asked.
"The injury occurred the day after you were born. The person who hurt you is dead, and that method he used won’t be possessed by anyone else. He himself doesn’t hold any significance. Only the elderly from the Ten Celestial Kings family can identify such an injury. There aren’t many of them, but enough to pose a threat. Whatever you do, ensure this scar isn’t seen to avoid bringing calamity upon yourself." Chen Xinghe explained.
Chen Guan nodded, feeling relieved. Since their family feared no investigation, he no longer had to worry about being found out by the Ji family.
As for the scar on his foot, people usually wouldn’t have the chance to see it; he just needed to find more ways to hide it, making discovery unlikely.
"Dad, I’m an adult now. I plan to venture into the Secret Realm. Does our family have any treasures or heritage to pass down to me?" Chen Guan asked with a smile.
"Back then, when faking death to escape, I was really at the end of my rope. There’s nothing much left. As for heritage, you can’t learn it." Chen Xinghe shook his head.
"Why can’t I learn it? Is it because my talent isn’t enough?" Chen Guan inquired.
"Those who emulate me die, those who learn from me perish. If my teachings appeared in you, there would no longer be a place for you in all of Divine Land. So, from childhood until now, I’ve never taught you anything. You don’t need to learn from me and shouldn’t. Not adding survival burdens is already all your dad can do for you." Chen Xinghe said with a smile.
"Understood." Chen Guan nodded and continued to ask, "Can I join the Celestial Court Army then?"
"Of course. As long as the scar on your sole isn’t seen, you can do anything you want." Chen Xinghe gave a positive answer.
"I’m considering whether to use Ji Nanhong’s connections or take the test myself." Chen Guan felt somewhat concerned.
If he used Ji Nanhong’s connections to get in, it would inevitably draw attention, although he’d receive care, it would also attract many people’s scrutiny.
"If you can take the test, absolutely do. But getting into the Celestial Court Army isn’t easy; back in the day, your dad also took the test and aimed to enter the Ancestral Court but couldn’t make it." Chen Xinghe laughed.
Chen Guan’s expression was complicated upon hearing this; Chen Xinghe wanted to get into the Celestial Court Army too, yet didn’t succeed.
But thinking about it, Chen Xinghe may not have entered the Celestial Court Army, but he did get into the Ancestral Court.
The great villain invaded the Ancestral Court, occupying it once.
"Even you couldn’t get in, seems indeed difficult." Chen Guan nodded thoughtfully, pondering that if using connections helps, then maybe it’s best to go that route. Chen Xinghe couldn’t get in, so he wasn’t confident he could either.
After resting at home for a day, Chen Guan received a message from Ji Nanhong early the next morning.
The message was brief, just two words: "Open door."
Chen Guan was taken aback at first, then hurriedly dressed and got out of bed, went to the front door, opened it, and there stood Ji Nanhong smiling at the doorstep.
"Why are you here?" Chen Guan saw that she had a lot of big and small packages beside her.
"As the future daughter-in-law of the Chen Family, I’m here to visit my future in-laws, doesn’t that make sense?" Ji Nanhong picked up two gift boxes and nudged her mouth towards the side, "Aren’t you going to help carry these?"
Chen Guan gave her an odd look, then went to help carrying things after she prompted him again.
He didn’t expect Ji Nanhong to visit, just like he didn’t think there was a real possibility of him and Ji Nanhong ending up together; he only intended to leverage the power behind Ji Nanhong’s influence.
"You must be Uncle Chen, I’m Ji Nanhong, a friend of Chen Guan." While Chen Guan was wondering how to introduce Ji Nanhong, she had already smilingly greeted Chen Xinghe, who was tinkering with succulents in the courtyard.
"Little Guan actually has such a pretty girlfriend; this silly boy really has silly luck." Chen Xinghe, long accustomed to such situations, handled them with ease. Throughout the years, Chen Guan’s schoolmates often visited home. A few words managed to make Ji Nanhong very happy.
