God-Tier Extraction Talent: Reincarnated in a Game-like World!
Chapter 136: Escape
CHAPTER 136: ESCAPE
Inside the tent, the fight had grown more intense.
Lilith was pushed to the defensive while Scarlet took the offensive role.
CLANG! CLANG!
Their blades clashed repeatedly. Each of Scarlet’s strikes was graceful and carried her full strength.
The frown on Lilith’s face deepened—each of Scarlet’s attacks was becoming more unbearable to parry.
A drop of sweat rolled down her temple. She knew that if she kept holding back out of fear of alerting others, she might actually die here.
’Fine then!’ she screamed internally as she activated two skills—a movement-type skill and a strength boost.
When she did, her power surged to a tremendous level, and her speed doubled. Lilith channeled her mana into her thin blade.
The weapon pulsed fiercely with a reddish glow. The assassin struck forward, channeling her pent-up frustration into the blade itself.
FWISH!
A trail of reddish aura exploded from the sword.
Scarlet quickly countered the attack with a slash of her own. Her blade effortlessly obliterated the enemy’s mana slash into pieces.
Lilith had expected this—it was merely a distraction for her real plan. With her movement skill still active, she charged forward again.
Mid-run, the thin blade she had used all this while vanished, replaced by a pair of deadly daggers dripping with toxin.
’One stab and I’ll lose a significant amount of health points,’ Scarlet noted inwardly when she saw the toxins.
Furthermore, melee combat was an area where Lilith excelled.
The distance between them closed rapidly.
Taking a sharp breath, the swordswoman remained calm and took a lethal stance. She didn’t make any attempt to dodge—like a statue.
’What is she doing? Is she just going to stand there like that?’ Lilith’s skull tingled. She felt her opponent was up to something.
Meanwhile, Scarlet calmly held her elegant blade in a reverse grip and allowed the enemy to enter range.
It was quite a risky move; however, the vice leader was very confident in herself.
"Die!" Lilith roared as she lunged forward with reckless abandon, aiming a dagger at Scarlet’s chest and neck.
A strike that would kill her instantly!
But just before impact—
SWOOSH!
Scarlet twisted her body at the last second, and her blade carved through the air, brushing dangerously close to Lilith’s ribs.
CLANG! SHING!
The first dagger was deflected. The second scraped against Scarlet’s armor.
"Tch!" Lilith clicked her tongue and immediately retreated. She was about to charge in a second time when she sensed several presences rushing toward them outside the tent.
Instantly, a magical circle lit up beneath her feet. She glared at Scarlet with a look that could kill.
"Next time, I won’t hold back." The bright red light from the circle enveloped her, and she vanished.
Just as she left, Gabriel and the others arrived at the scene.
"Sister, are you okay?" Alice called out in a concerned voice.
"I’m fine," Scarlet replied. "Did they target any of you as well?"
While Scarlet was talking to her guild members, Gabriel looked around, hoping to find a body.
However, there was nothing.
"Did the assassin escape?" he asked, turning to Scarlet.
"Yes, she got away," Scarlet replied.
"She?" A frown appeared on Gabriel’s face.
"Yes, it was Lilith of the Crimson Star Guild," Scarlet said, as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
This made Gabriel’s frown deepen. Were the Chain of Veylor and Crimson Star working hand in hand—or was this a coincidence?
Seeing her master’s thoughtful expression, Anna whispered, "Master, it seems the vice leader doesn’t know about the Chain of Veylor."
Gabriel had realized this as well. Furthermore, he felt there was no need to tell her that the assassins who came for him were from the Chain of Veylor—it would only complicate things and raise unnecessary questions.
"I was told you were attacked as well?" Scarlet then asked.
"Yes. Their dead bodies are outside," Gabriel replied and led the group toward his tent.
"They must be from that flirty Crimson Star Guild as well," Alice snickered as she kicked the head of one of the assassins.
Gabriel wisely decided not to comment on what Alice said.
The Chain of Veylor were a rogue organization despised by everyone. If people learned that his maid was once part of that vile group—it would only bring unnecessary heat and endless questions.
---
Some time later, everyone returned to their tents, but no one fell asleep, constantly feeling as though another assassin could be lurking around.
The bodies were placed in a body bag and prepared for disposal. However, before they were carried away, Gabriel stopped them.
"No need for that," he said. "I want to conduct some investigation on the corpses. Don’t worry—when I’m done, I’ll personally dispose of them."
The two guild members exchanged a glance. Gabriel’s words were convincing—and sounded sincere, unless someone suspected an ulterior motive.
Furthermore, Gabriel held quite a high position in the guild and was respected by everyone.
"You’re not doing anything sketchy with those, are you?" one of them asked.
The other quickly slapped him on the back of the head. "Don’t mind him. You can have it," he said as they handed over the bag.
Gabriel dragged the bag into his new tent—the original having been destroyed during the earlier attack.
Anna followed him without needing to be told.
"They’ll still keep coming." Anna clenched her fist. "Knowing that organization, sooner or later, they’ll send someone even stronger."
"Till then," Gabriel replied as he unzipped the bag, revealing the two assassins—both already cold and lifeless.
One was missing an arm, and the other had a hole drilled through his chest. Gabriel summoned the fragment of the Lake Serpent King once again.
Now, he had three corpses to extract from.
’Surely, one of them would give me something good,’ he smirked as he activated his God-Tier Talent.
