Godfire: The Split Soul
Chapter 45: Enough is Enough!
CHAPTER 45: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Wind bounced under the wings of the bird creatures with long beaks as they flew above the building. The female soldier holding the shimmering white sword was walking lazily inside and kicking her boots on the broken chairs and tables aside.
Entering an open door, she stopped, clenched the sword forward, and moved back, letting her back touch the wall she stood at its front when she saw three of the dog-like creatures tearing a fresh human child apart.
She swallowed hard as one of the eyes of the child being torn popped out, rolled on the ground, and stopped in front of her. Though the creatures were busily and forcefully tearing the skin apart, yet she dared not move, until one of the creatures turned its head and grinned at her.
Dust spiraled in the air as she ran through the doors on the third floor of the building, shouting and pushing broken tables on the creatures that countered her. And when she reached the only large exit door, she halted and fell, noticing it to be blocked by countless creatures, sniffing and moving forward in groups.
...
Sweat dripped from Kai’s forehead as he halted at the building and only saw drops of blood stretching forward in a straight line, and when he followed it, he stopped and stepped back, seeing two of the same six-eyed creatures he had fought earlier crunching their teeth on a torn human hand.
He moved back, tightened his grip on the daggers, and closed his eyes.
’I don’t have to let them go away alive, they’re the cause of Kinji’s suffering,’ he thought, cracking his eyes open and staring at the creatures, his eyes glowing wildly in his eye sockets.
Air rattled through Kai’s nose as he inhaled deeply, yet he stepped placed a step forward, his boots crunching on the broken glass scattered on the bloodied floor, and sending cracking sounds in the air.
’This ends here.’ He said in his head, continually stepping forward, not minding the crunching sound erupting from the ground.
One of the creatures’ heads twitched, its ears shooting up as its eyes met the boy’s, while a string of meat hung from its mouth, snapping between its fangs like threads. It sniffed, letting a growl vibrate through the room, then lunged forward, alerting the other whose teeth were hastily tearing the corpse lying on the floor apart.
Dust spiraled up as Kai stepped forward without hesitation, letting a whistle echo as his daggers sliced through the air and landed on the creature’s neck, with a cracking sound.
Slash.
The creature growled then took a step back with its head tilted down, trying to pull itself from the sharp object stuck at its neck.
Kai’s wrist trembled as he pulls the daggers from the creature’s neck, and when he finally did, blood sprayed on the floor and on his cheeks, painting his dressed red as he it dripped from his face to the black uniform he was in.
The creature which should have fallen didn’t, it just moved back, stretching it long tongue and letting it land on the wound and began licking the blood from it.
The second creature dashed forward, its claws slicing with the speed of wind and slamming on the daggers as Kai moved them around, blocking the strikes. No matter how hard and fast he moved the daggers, a sharp pain struck his heart as one of the claws raked across his shoulder, tearing the skin and leaving him with a wide opened skin.
He grunted as warm liquid snaked around the top of his shoulder of his left arm to his palm, yet he didn’t fall back or buckle down. He stepped forward, stabbing the daggers into the creature again, and again, and pushing them down at the creature’s collarbone.
His breath came in short angry bursts as he clenched his jaw, nothing was far more important to him than fighting the creatures to their death.
The first creature moved forward, whipping its tail around and slamming it into the Kai’s ribs, pushing him and sending him rolling in the air and crashing on the walls. The daggers loosened from his fingers and landed beneath the creatures.
"No..." Kai said, shouting and slamming his fist on the ground as he noticed the daggers weren’t in his hands. Blood seeped out of his mouth and nose as he lifted his head and looked at the creatures now moving toward him in great speed, then tilted his gaze to the daggers shimmering as the ray of the sun shone bright on them.
The creatures pounced, but Kai lunged first, ducking under a claw swipe and sliding on the gritty floor, and launched himself upward, his knees crashing into one of the creature’s throats.
Crack.
The other creature’s claw grabbed Kai on the shoulders, its claws sinking deep and ripping Kai’s skin, yet the boy didn’t scream. He slammed his forehead into the creature’s face. His breath came in harsh as the pain rattled through his skull.
He wrapped both hands around the creature’s jaw, fingers digging inside the hot maw, his palms slick with its spit and blood, and forced his arms outward, though the creature’s sharp teeth bit down like knives on his fingers.
Pop.
The jaw cracked, bone snapping like wet wood as the creature gargled once, letting blood splatter across his forearms while he ripped its mouth apart, splitting it open until the skull tore into two. Though the creature was dead, yet its corpse twitched as its tail slammed on the ground, hastily whipping Kai on the leg.
Sweat dripped down from Kai’s chin as he stood there panting, his chest heaving, while dust floated around him as the other creature surged forward, only to be held by the throat. It moved its claws, striking Kai on the shoulders, yet he placed his right arm on the throat, pressed his fingers deeper, then pulled it, splitting the throat into two. He threw the creature, sending it crashing on the already dead one.
Kai’s fingers trembled, coated in blood as he stayed still, his pulse hammering in his ears so loud it sounded like a drum. After minutes of silence, he wiped his arms across his face, smearing the blood with sweat and swinging his arm, letting it sprinkle on the creatures.
"Enough is enough," he said, shouting and bent down, grabbing the daggers, then inhaled deeply.
The building felt too quiet as he walked out of the building holding the bloodied daggers and walked through the silent road.
...
Footsteps echoed a few minutes as Kai moved from the building and vanished into the dark corners of the road.
Clanging sound echoed as Kang struck one of his swords on the creature with its throat split in two, and smiled before stepping out of the room and running after the direction Kai took.
The men who were following Kang stopped when they saw both of the creatures dead, widened their eyes, and covered their mouths in shock as they exchanged glances.
They raised the leftovers of the creatures, placed them in a huge sack and exited through the back of the building, and threw the sacks in a van already filled with bloodied sacks of the same size.
...
"Help... help... help..." the female soldier said, shouting and crawling on the ground after stumbling and crashing her head on the shattered glass window. Not long after she pulled herself forward, hot air gushed around as the creatures closed in, their teeth’s grinned and shimmering under the sun’s rays.
She threw her arms around, letting the sword strike the faces of the creatures, yet they didn’t stop. One moved forward, grabbing the sharp edges of the sword under its teeth and throwing it away, then moved toward her, encapsulating her.
Though she managed to push some back with a kick, she closed her eyes when one of the creatures grabbed her leg with its mouth and pressed its sharp teeth on the leg bone.
