Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship
Chapter 184 - Ship repair and settlement
Yang Yi sent the intel on the Delicious Meat Chunk (Large) to Song Yingwen. After that, he picked up a simple iron hammer and joined the large-scale ship repair efforts.
When players repaired their own ships, the system would provide guidance.
As long as you had the required materials and tools, the system would walk you through the process, much like crafting a sweater after acquiring the recipe, which only consumed stamina.
Yang Yi had no clue how to knit a sweater, but the system would forcefully grant him the knowledge, allowing him to produce one while spending some stamina.
After consuming a set amount of crystal and hammering rapidly for over half an hour, a massive crystal sphere was “rolled out” by Yang Yi.
It made no scientific sense, yet was perfectly aligned with system logic; it was exactly like a game.
Upon realising that Strength and Agility stats boosted ship repair speed, Yang Yi immediately transformed into a werewolf, pushing his efficiency even higher.
After three hours and consuming 15 stamina, he managed to rebuild the mast as well. However, the sails and the lookout post were still pending.
Yang Yi checked the ship interface.
The Nightmare Star’s durability had returned to over 2,000, and the rest of the repairs could now be handled by the skeletal arms.
This self-repair process didn’t require materials. As durability continued to recover, the number of skeletal arms also increased. At that rate, the Nightmare Star would likely be fully restored in no time.
Yang Yi had no plans to set sail before then, since there were no flesh chunks or other floating threats nearby, it was relatively safe.
The tsunami had probably dragged those things into the deep sea.
In total, the ship repairs had consumed:
It was a heavy loss.
Fortunately, Yang Yi had stocked up on extra materials in advance.
Aside from a shortage of 200 stone and 30 steel, he still had enough resources to upgrade the Nightmare Star to Level 4 if he could acquire some regenerating flesh.
Meanwhile, he’d earned a decent amount of Shell Coins,
People had been sending small transfers, mostly 100 coins each, and together with Song Yingwen’s info fee, the total had reached over 80,000.
“If I borrowed money using the One-eyed alias, I bet I could raise quite a bit…”
Yang Yi thought to himself.
The cabin was nearly fully cleaned out.
The worst damage had hit the food supplies,
Anything that had come into contact with seawater was inedible.
Remaining supplies included:
That was all the food left on the ship.
As for fuel sources like oils and scorched spirits, he had plenty, no risk of running out soon.
After cleaning out the cabin, Yang Yi began coating the ship’s exterior with salt, adding salt to any exposed areas on the deck and hull.
The salt consumption was enormous.
Including the salt used to kill the meat chunk, the losses from contamination and spoilage, and the fresh salt now spread over the hull, the total reached nearly four tons.
To maximise damage potential, Yang Yi deliberately applied a thick layer of salt. Walking on the deck felt like treading on a beach, producing loud crunching sounds with every step.
By the time he finished, night was falling.
Yang Yi checked the weather, still a little over an hour of daylight left. But since the captain’s quarters and Suna’s room were still in early construction stages, they’d likely have to sleep in the main cabin tonight.
He took one last look at the Nightmare Star’s repair status.
The sails had been completed, but due to the lack of fabric, the new sails were surprisingly made from skeletal arms holding hands, forming a makeshift sail.
One had to admire the creativity of these skeletal arms.
Although they didn’t possess intelligence, they were willing to sacrifice themselves to repair the ship.
At this rate, even the rooms and furniture in the future would likely be built by these white bone arms.
Yang Yi installed the head of the giant bobbit worm.
Although it no longer had its exoskeleton, the two jaw blades could still deal damage to those meat chunks. And if something blocked the way, he might even use it to slice through obstacles.
The Life Fireplace was also placed inside the roofless, bare-walled captain’s cabin.
After finishing these tasks, Yang Yi headed towards the main cabin, planning to eat and get some rest.
Inside the cabin, windows had been installed on both sides, and the gunports had been reopened, allowing use of the flooded cannons.
He didn’t remove any other windows to minimise the risk of flesh chunks infiltrating the interior.
Later, he planned to salt the inside of the cabin, he’d use a bit more, just to be sure. No harm in overdoing it.
Suna was busy cleaning up the witch’s lab, which was a mess. Some equipment had been broken and would need to be replaced and rearranged.
Fortunately, none of the samples had been lost. The rest of the damage was still within acceptable limits.
Yang Yi took out some of the samples stored in his ring and walked into the lab to pass them to Suna.
Previously, some of the biological samples had been kept in his storage.
“This thing got this big?”
Yang Yi had just stepped inside when he saw the pale worm larva,
Only now, it could hardly be called a larva anymore. It had grown so much it needed a giant glass tank just to contain it.
Its regrown tentacles were now curled tightly into a ball, resembling a bundle of knotted, fat maggots.
“It fully matured, and some of its data has changed,” Suna messaged privately, attaching its updated info:
【Name: Pale Worm (Bulky)】
【Description: A mutated version of the Pale Worm after absorbing large amounts of nutrients. Its tentacles are thicker than usual, regenerate quickly, and its flesh is tender, edible, rich in fat, and has a naturally sweet taste.】
“To stop it from growing further, we’ll have to put it on a starvation diet or just slice off its excess mass. Otherwise, it takes up too much space…” Suna said expressionlessly.
Yang Yi glanced at the worm, it had curled even tighter, clearly trying to take up less room. Apparently, it was deeply terrified of Suna. Even after mutating, it didn’t dare resist her.
That was a good thing.
But if they followed Yang Yi’s original plan, they would’ve probably had to kill the Pale Worm to avoid chaos.
Yang Yi handed the specimens to Suna. Then, with her help, he removed the hand-armour from the Penitent Armour.
The two of them had a simple meal, then prepared to take shifts for the night watch.
Suna had barely rested since the Nightmare Star set sail, so cleaning the cabin and restoring the lab had drained a significant amount of her energy.
Even after drinking a vitality coconut, her energy level was just over 40. So, Yang Yi took the first watch, while Suna would take the second half.
As night fell and darkness settled in, Suna fell asleep early on the metal table in the lab. Not far away, the Pale Worm lay curled up on the floor, sealed under a thick glass cover to prevent escape.
Yang Yi leaned against the glass tank containing the worm, scrolling through the chat channel.
Tonight, every player would likely face the tsunami, and some, like him, would even encounter meat chunk attacks. Official source is n͟o͟v͟e͟l͟f͟i͟r͟e͟.net
How many would survive was unknown.
Because the dead don’t leave messages in the chat, and since the player count wasn’t displayed, there was no way to tell.
