Great, It’s the Pervy Neighbor. We’re Doomed
Chapter 15: The World's Best Guitar
For now, he'd take it one day at a time and focus on earning more money. After all, it was ten thousand a day. Where else could you make money this fast? He planned to save enough here to reform his band. He wasn't afraid of whatever mysteries this apartment might hold - what truly scared him was the possibility of not getting paid for his stay, or having the agreement terminated early before he could earn enough.
Soon, he arrived at Room 501 with Zhang Le - Zhang Le's home. Zhang Le entered first, followed by him. Zhang Le paused briefly before casually closing the door behind them.
"Where are the guitars you collect?" Wang Xixi asked eagerly as soon as they entered. He scanned Zhang Le's apartment, noting the excellent decor that carried the distinct vibe of a musician's dwelling.
"In here." Zhang Le pointed toward the bedroom, indicating Wang Xixi should go ahead while he went to the open kitchen to prepare tea.
As a former band vocalist who'd been involved in music for years, Wang Xixi naturally had his favorite instrument - the guitar. That's why he'd followed Zhang Le here. Had Zhang Le collected any other instrument, no matter how rare or autographed by world-famous musicians, Wang Xixi wouldn't have come. But guitars were different.
When he opened the bedroom door, Wang Xixi saw exactly what he'd imagined - guitars. Five of them hung on a pristine white wall - two on each side with one in the center. The four flanking guitars already looked exquisitely crafted and undoubtedly expensive, like fine works of art. But the center one stood out like a king surrounded by its court. The white lightning-shaped guitar bore an English signature - none other than that of Acamellon, the world's greatest guitarist. This signature alone multiplied the guitar's value exponentially.
Wang Xixi was stunned speechless. Forget the signed centerpiece - even the four surrounding guitars were far beyond anything he could ever hope to own. He recognized all four: the Eisen 120, Red Island S, Shell 238, and Hausen 300. Each cost hundreds of thousands. For someone whose own guitar was worth merely five thousand, this sight was intoxicating.
But what truly captivated Wang Xixi was the Martin D200 in the center - the favorite and most frequently used guitar of Acamellon himself. Limited to just 300 worldwide with a starting price of 1.2 million. Wang Xixi could hardly contain his excitement at seeing such a rare instrument here, especially with that priceless signature making it even more valuable. An ordinary guitar with Acamellon's signature would be far less collectible.
"Don't get too excited now. Take your time looking," Zhang Le said with a chuckle as he handed Wang Xixi a cup of tea. But how could Wang Xixi think about tea now? His eyes and heart were completely captivated by the five guitars on that white wall.
"Drink your tea, and I'll let you try playing all five," Zhang Le suddenly offered, making Wang Xixi freeze in disbelief.
"Really?" His eyes widened.
Zhang Le nodded. "Yes."
Wang Xixi still couldn't believe it. "You're not joking? I can play all five? Even the center one?"
As Zhang Le sipped his tea, leaving Wang Xixi's cup on the nearby table, he replied, "Of course. Aren't guitars meant to be played? The finest guitar becomes worthless if only kept as a collectible. Their value lies in creating music. I play these regularly myself."
Wang Xixi nodded fervently. "You're absolutely right." He never dreamed such an opportunity would come his way. Most collectors guarded their prized instruments jealously - never letting others touch them, barely playing them themselves, and keeping them locked in special cases rather than hung casually on walls like Zhang Le did.
After testing the tea's temperature with a quick touch and sip (he wasn't fond of tea, being more accustomed to bar drinks during his performing days), Wang Xixi gulped down half the cup in one go. Then he rushed to the white wall, carefully taking down the Martin D200 before sitting on the bed to admire it. He cradled the guitar like a delicate beauty rather than an instrument.
Watching from the bedroom doorway, Zhang Le narrowed his eyes and smiled faintly.
Outside Alice Apartment at 9:30 PM, darkness prevailed with only the moon visible against the starless sky. In the quiet night, attentive ears might catch the faint sounds of guitar and song.
Inside Room 501's bedroom, Wang Xixi played and sang using the 1.2 million yuan signature guitar. His skills as a former lead vocalist were undeniable - both his playing and singing were excellent. The sole audience member, Zhang Le, swayed gently to the music with a look of deep appreciation.
When the song ended, Wang Xixi reluctantly set down the Martin D200. "The difference between a good guitar and an ordinary one is incredible," he marveled. "I thought my few-thousand-yuan guitar was decent enough, but after playing this, I can't bear to put it down! Going back to my old one would feel wrong now. If only I could own a guitar like this in my lifetime..."
Despite his exhilaration, a tinge of sadness remained knowing this guitar wasn't his. If he became a famous singer, a 1.2 million yuan guitar would be nothing. But reality was cruel - in his current situation, such an instrument would forever be beyond his reach.
Hearing this, Zhang Le laughed. "Brother Wang, while your playing and singing are excellent, your discernment needs work."
"Huh? Needs work?" Wang Xixi was puzzled.
Zhang Le explained, "While my Martin D200 is quite good, it's merely a mundane product. Yet you consider owning such an ordinary item the height of your aspirations - doesn't that show poor discernment?"
"Mundane? This is mundane?" Wang Xixi was shocked. How could a limited edition guitar favored by the world's best guitarist be considered ordinary? What then would qualify as extraordinary?
"You must be joking," Wang Xixi said. "This guitar is top-tier. You might find others more expensive, but none significantly better."
Zhang Le smiled. "I'm quite serious. Let me show you the world's best guitar - along with the other world-class instruments in my collection."
