CHAPTER 616: CAPABLE ENOUGH

Luo Tingfeng stepped back in disgust; his eyes flickering uneasily as he stared at the puddle of blood and flesh in front of him. He had been looking for clues for months, and yet every time he got close to getting the smallest shred of evidence, something would go awry. These demonic cultivators who had once followed Gu Sirou to raze the immortal realm seemed to be bound by the Unify Spell.

Earlier, Luo Tingfeng only doubted and held some suspicions, but now that he had run into trouble one after another, he realised that there was more than what he could see on the surface. But one thing was very clear— Gu Sirou was never an orphan.

When the girl was a baby, she was abandoned at the gates of the sect. They all thought that the child was left behind by some immortal who had broken their oath to never fall in love. However, Luo Tingfeng was now certain that it was not the case.

That girl—she must be the daughter of one of the elders, thought Luo Tingfeng with a sharp glint in his eyes. At the same time, he wondered which immortal had stooped so low that they actually betrayed heaven and became a demonic cultivator, that too by selling their own soul to the devil.

Because only those who had sold their soul in exchange would cross the threshold of the Eternal Demon Ancestor and become skilled in the Unify Spell; without selling their soul, it was nearly impossible for anyone to break through this level unless they were talented in the field of cultivation, and if one was skilled enough, why would they abandon the path of Glory and Fortune and take the path of demonic cultivation?

Demonic cultivators were of two types. One who was evil to the core to begin with, so they took the oath of demon worship from the beginning. And the second one was those who couldn’t succeed in the path of righteous cultivation; thus, they abandoned the oath of righteousness and started walking on the demonic cultivation.

In Luo Tingfeng’s eyes, these were the ones who were most terrifying. Cultivators who could betray the Gods could betray anyone and should never be trusted. The demonic cultivators were evil, but they remained true to their path from the beginning to the end.

"Compared to you, whoever was guiding you from behind the scenes was a lot worse. Why did you even accept their leadership?" questioned Luo Tingfeng, but of course, he never received an answer because the person who could have given him an answer was already dead.

Luo Tingfeng sighed. He raised his head and looked at the gloomy sky. For some reason, he had a feeling that the future in front of him was going to be truly problematic.

"I hope that An An is living a good life," he muttered before opening the bamboo umbrella that he was carrying by his side and then turned around on his feet before heading down the curved path of the mountains.

He needed to go back and trace the trail of evidence that had been hidden years ago, but Luo Tingfeng was certain that as long as the person behind this mess was alive, he would find a piece of evidence very soon.

Those who had wronged his daughter, he would never let them off!

"Argh, what are you doing?!" Luo Huian questioned angrily as she looked at the two kids who were now lying in a puddle of mud. When Qi Yongrui told her that there was a strawberry farm, he thought that it was the greenhouse kind. She never thought that it was a literal farm. It was a good place.

Peaceful and serene. With loads and loads of strawberry crops stretched far and wide over the land in front of her, but there was a little problem. In fact, a big problem. Children loved strawberries, and Nian Zhi and Nian Wu were no exceptions.

The second they saw the strawberries growing all over the place, they were so excited that they started running amok without listening to a thing that she was saying, which in turn made them fall face flat on the ground.

Luo Huian felt her soul escape her body when they fell. She was trying to keep these two kids as happy and safe as possible. If even a strand of their hair was missing, Ye Jinglan might make a fuss over it.

"Do you think he would count the strand of their hair?" Xiao Hei asked with a look of sheer speechlessness on his dark reptilian face.

"If he could get money from me? Sure," Luo Huian replied as she trotted over to where the two kids had fallen. With a stern expression on her face, she looked at the two kids. She said, "What did I say to you when you left the car just now?"

"You told us not to run around."

"And what are you doing now?" Luo Huian asked with a hint of reproach in her tone. She looked annoyed, but at the same time, she tried her best to be patient with the kids. She didn’t want them to be scared of her, because in case the reporters were to corner them and question these two kids, it would be troublesome if they said that they were scared of her.

Nian Zhi and Nian Wu dropped their heads. They were not unreasonable and knew that Luo Huian was scolding them for their own good. So they good-naturedly said to Luo Huian, "I am sorry, Aunt Luo. We will try to be careful."

Only then did Luo Huian nod and allow them to walk away.

Behind her, Qi Yongrui flashed her an apologetic look before saying to her, "I am sorry. I never thought that they would be this excited over something so simple."

"It’s not your fault," Luo Huian waved her hand and carelessly said, "These kids are letting loose after a long time. With the kind of person Ye Jinglan is, I don’t believe that he has ever taken the two of them to even a small park, much less a strawberry farm. Let them play if they want to, just keep an eye on them. Make sure that they don’t run around."

Qi Yongrui hummed. He then asked Uncle Feng to follow the two kids. Since he had taken the responsibility, he was going to take care of it.

Fan Meilin, on the other hand, was looking around the strawberry farm; his expression was cold and sassy, but his eyes flickered every time he noticed a ripe strawberry. He would then look around and swiftly bag it in his wicker basket.

"Do you really have to be this sneaky?"

A mechanical voice called out from behind, and Fan Meilin jumped in the air. He turned and looked at Liao Liqin, who was standing behind him. He glared at the mer who scared him out of his wits and said to him, "Damn Liao Liqin. What do you think you are doing? You scared me!"

"I was walking behind you from the start," Liao Liqin typed on his phone, and the mechanical voice relayed his message. "It was you who forgot all about it because you were too focused on snatching and plucking strawberries. Have you forgotten? You boasted that you were going to take us around and teach us how to choose the ripest strawberry?"

As he finished speaking, he pointed down at the two children who were following them like little ducklings. They were still waiting for Fan Meilin to teach them and were clutching the small wicker baskets that Qi Yongrui had given them when they arrived at the farm.

The two kids had listened to Fan Meilin’s boasting about how he could fetch the biggest and the ripest strawberry with just one look, and thus, they had been clamouring to do the same. Unfortunately, Fan Meilin was not used to handling children. Though he promised, he quickly forgot all about it and went on his own merry way.

The two kids had been following him without saying anything till now, but Liao Liqin, who was following them silently, couldn’t bear to watch the two children’s falling expressions any longer. He could only call Fan Meilin and stop him. At first, Liao Liqin was worried that the mer had forgotten the kids, but he doubted that such a thing could happen. But now that he had caught the trace of confusion and surprise in Fan Meilin’s eyes, he realised that the mer indeed forgot the two kids.

How could such a thing happen? Were they not right behind him? How could he forget the kids and even himself?!?

Liao Liqin was speechless. He knew his presence was weak, but he never thought that it was this weak.

Fan Meilin touched his nose guiltily when he saw Liao Liqin glaring at him. He turned to look at the kids and said to them, "I didn’t forget you two. I thought you two were talented enough to learn just by watching."

Liao Liqin: "..."

The kids: "..."

What? If you were going to lie, at least make it sound reasonable? Even our collective age is not eighteen!
