Chapter 648: A Wife’s Care

On the other side, Luo Huian, who had recently recovered from her illness, was also sitting in the audience region with her face covered with a mask. She watched Fan Meilin talking with his assistant and sighed.

“You do realise that this makes us look like stalkers,” she said to Xiao Hei. It was he who told her that they needed to go and watch the show, but not intervene.

Xiao Hei’s head, which was turning left and right, paused before he slowly turned and looked at her with an annoyed expression; if a snake could have that, he certainly did. “Do you think that I like doing this? We have no other choice!” He harrumphed and then said to Luo Huian, “That mer is in danger of getting assaulted tonight and as his wife, you need to take care of him.”

“I can just take care of this assaulter before he even ruins his mood, though,” remarked Luo Huian as she raised her head and glanced at the VIP section. Even though she could not see Liao Hong, she knew that the woman was there. Because other than her, she couldn’t think of anyone trying to mess with Fan Meilin.

“You cannot do that unless she makes a move,” reminded Xiao Bai gently. “In fact, there is no need to make a move. Just make sure that you are there when that woman tries to trouble him.”

Xiao Bai was worried that Luo Huian would go straight for the blood, so she couldn’t help but remind her of one thing over and over again.

“I am not going to kill her if that is what you are worried about,” Luo Huian rolled her eyes and stated. She wanted to very much, but she wouldn’t do it. The last thing she needed was for that old hag to come looking for her and give her another lecture on why she should be taking the lives of people around her more seriously.

“You are quite quiet,” a voice remarked, and Luo Huian’s stare turned into a thousand-yard stare as she closed her eyes and turned to look at the woman who was sitting beside her. She still had no idea why Bai Shiliu came with her.

“I know I have already asked this question already but why are you here?” Luo Huian turned and looked at the woman who was sitting next to her. “I don’t recall inviting you to watch the race.”

“Of course you didn’t, but Leader Qingling is busy and she was worried that you would flatline, so she sent me here,” said Bai Shiliu with a smile on her lips.

Luo Huian: “…” I have a feeling that you are cursing me, but I cannot do anything about it.

Luo Huian didn’t want to get into a quarrel with this woman because she knew that it would end up quite badly, so she stayed quiet. Fortunately, at that moment, the race also started; thus, no one paid attention to one another and started paying attention to the race that was going on in front of them.

As Fan Meilin shot out from the finishing line, Luo Huian had to admit that the mer was really skilled. The way he swerved and drove was like a fish swimming in water. He drove like it was in his blood.

“He is good.” Bai Shiliu remarked as she watched Fan Meilin turn around for another lap.

“Of course he is,” replied Luo Huian and when she spoke, she didn’t even realise that there was a hint of pride in her voice. However, that pride soon turned into concern when she saw someone smash into Fan Meilin’s car as he cut around a circuit. “Damn! That motherfucker.”

As soon as she finished cursing, the people in the back and the front turned to look at her, and she growled at them. “What are you looking at me for? Do you think I am the referee of this race or what?”

“I am sorry,” said Bai Shiliu, sounding apologetic. “She doesn’t mean it. She is just worried due to the injuries that the racer might sustain after the crash—we are Meilin’s friends. So do try to understand.”

She then pulled Luo Huian back and hissed at her, “What are you doing?”

“What? They should be glad that I didn’t jump over them to punch that bastard in the face,” snapped Luo Huian. She was furious just thinking about how that mer had smashed right into Fan Meilin’s side, even though her husband remained unbothered and got right back on his feet before going back to the race, even though he slipped a little behind.

She couldn’t see it from here, but she was sure that the mer was injured. After all, that bastard hit the driver’s side. It would be a surprise if Fan Meilim remained perfectly fine after this. He must have landed some injuries after getting smashed after that.

Bai Shiliu was simply speechless. She knew that the woman was protective of her husbands, but she had no idea that Luo Huian was this protective. She sighed and stated, “Calm down. He is fine; these kinds of tactics are common in racing. Don’t you go around smashing the faces of the racers just because you are worried about him.”

“Humph, who is worried about him? Certainly not me,” Luo Huian scoffed. However, throughout the race, she stared at the race circuit with such a tense expression that the person in front of her felt like she was sitting in the middle of a snowstorm. She couldn’t stop shivering from the low pressure around her.

‘Please, dear heavens, let this race end as soon as possible,’ chanted the woman and the people around her.

And maybe the heavens were also worried that the woman who was stewing in silence would lose her temper; thus, the race ended with Fan Meilin taking the victory.

“Yes! Haha! In your face, you cheating scum!” Luo Huian jumped to her feet and cheered for Fan Meilin, leaving Bai Shiliu quite embarrassed, but the latter didn’t say anything, for she knew that if she were in Luo Huian’s shoes, she would have probably done it too.

As soon as she finished having that thought, her phone rang, but Bai Shiliu ignored the ringing of her call. She knew who it was, and she had no intention of talking to this person.

Fan Meilin had no idea that his wife was sitting in the audience region and that she had almost turned the entire area into a war zone the second he was hit by someone. He staggered out of the car and rubbed the side of his head, which was bleeding due to the impact.

“Are you alright?” Xu Qiao came running as he took a look at Fan Meilin’s injuries just as the mer pulled off his helmet. He frowned when he saw the extent of Fan Meilin’s injury and said, “That Meng really did a number on you. I am glad that you won the race, though. I was worried that with that hit, you were going to fall back, but it seemed like you were stronger than you look.”

Fan Meilin rolled his eyes and said to him, “I was not going to let that brat win after messing up my face.” He took the rag that Xu Qiao offered him and placed it on his injury, letting it soak up the blood. “He is young and naive. Not to mention reckless. Does he think that just getting smashed would make me lose the race? How many of these young racers did that when they first started racing, and how many of them succeeded in doing so?”

He walked to the resting area and said to Xu Qiao, “Go and call the medics. Though I am not seriously injured, I think it’s better if I fix my face up before returning home. Or else my wife will get angry.”

Fan Meilin’s eyes softened when he thought about Luo Huian and the changes that had come within her. Maybe the woman was truly just upset due to the lack of care, love and attention that they didn’t show her. But now that she had got better and understood their feelings, Luo Huian had learnt to treat them better.

Xu Qiao rolled his eyes when he heard the words of his boss. He really had no intention of eating dog food this late in the night, but with Fan Meilin falling in love with Luo Huian, this had become a daily norm for him. He said to him, “Alright, alright, lover boy. I will go and bring the medics. We cannot have your wife worry over you.”

After speaking, he turned around and ran out of the resting area as if he were being chased by something.

Watching him leave, Fan Meilin chuckled before turning on his feet and walking to the couch before sitting down and closing his eyes. No sooner he had closed his eyes, the sound of door opening echoed in the resting area and he mused, “You returned quite quickly—”
