CHAPTER 102: XIE DAIYU: LOVE RIVAL

"Chanchan!"

Ruan Chanchan paused and turned to look at the mer, who had called her name. "Yes?"

Behind her, Xie Daiyu also turned and glanced at the mer who was holding a giant leaf in his hands. From the looks of it, he was carrying what looked like Flaming Fruits. Xie Daiyu frowned when he saw the gift that the mer had brought along with him.

He suddenly had a feeling of trepidation, which only solidified when he saw the mer coming to a stop in front of Ruan Chanchan.

"Chanchan, I wanted to thank you for saving Ah Man," said the mer shyly. When Ruan Chanchan continued to look at the mer with confusion in her eyes, he softly introduced himself, "I am Hong Zao. Ah Man’s brother."

Ruan Chanchan had never met this mer before, and even in the fuzzy memories of the host, there was no recollection of a mer named Hong Zao, but she still nodded and questioned, "How can I help you?"

"I don’t need your help," Hong Zao blushed furiously as he handed the flaming fruits that he had plucked this morning. He was not a warrior hunter, but he was a very good scout because of his little squirrel-like form. So, it wasn’t difficult for him to climb up the mountain and bring these fruits down.

"I heard that you like eating these fruits. So I brought some to thank you for saving my sister’s life."

Ruan Chanchan looked down at the flaming fruits and nodded. However, just as she took the fruits from the mer, Xie Daiyu, who was standing behind her, let out a growl. Startled, she turned and looked at the mer in confusion. "What’s the matter?"

What was the matter? She was accepting favours from other mers when he was standing right behind her!

However, Xie Daiyu couldn’t stop Ruan Chanchan from accepting the fruits. So he could only look at Hong Zao.

The poor mer didn’t understand what was going on. He stared at Xie Daiyu with a slightly terrified gaze and didn’t snap out of it even when Xie Daiyu told Ruan Chanchan to come with him.

It was only when his friend tapped on his shoulder that he snapped out of his daze.

"What did I do wrong?" Hong Zao pouted and turned to look at his friend. He sobbingly asked, "I didn’t even say anything to Xie Daiyu; why was he glaring at me?" Hong Zao had never seen Xie Daiyu show any kind of attention to any woman in the tribe; thus, he could never have doubted that Xie Daiyu had some kind of soft feelings for Ruan Chanchan.

When his friend heard his response, he sighed helplessly. He said to Hong Zao, "Didn’t you see it? Xie Daiyu likes Ruan Chanchan. You were handing Ruan Chanchan fruits right in front of him; of course, he wasn’t going to like it."

"Xie Daiyu likes Ruan Chanchan? How can that be possible! I have never seen him like anyone... There are so many warrior-kind women; why would he pay attention to someone like Ruan Chanchan?" Hong Zao knew Xie Daiyu well enough to know that he would never pay attention to someone like Ruan Chanchan. That mer didn’t even pay attention to sister Xu Yiyi. That woman was the strongest warrior of the tribe and had confessed to Xie Daiyu many times.

Even Chief Xie wanted the two of them to get together, as their child would certainly be one of the strongest in the tribe, but Xie Daiyu never agreed. He even refused Xu Yiyi publicly, stating that he didn’t like her and had no intention of getting together with her. Ever since then, Xu Yiyi hadn’t returned to the tribe, and many thought that she had left the tribe; if not for her family still staying here, many of the tribe members would have left the tribe, as they supported Xu Yiyi.

Xie Daiyu didn’t even pay attention to Xu Yiyi. Why would he care about Ruan Chanchan? It was simply stupid to think that he would care about her. Much less like her!

His friend simply shrugged. "Well, what can I say? Just stay away from Ruan Chanchan. I think that Xie Daiyu has some special feelings for her... so you might as well keep away."

Hong Zao listened to his friend and watched the two leave. His heart was not willing, but as a scout warrior, he didn’t dare to go against Xie Daiyu!

"What’s the matter with you?" Ruan Chanchan glanced at the mer, who looked sullen as if someone had robbed him.

That mer tried to snatch you away from me, and you did not refuse; you even took the fruits that he brought for you, and I am jealous because of that! Xie Daiyu roared in his head, but when he thought about how he couldn’t say those words to Ruan Chanchan, he could only lower his head and say, "Nothing."

Ruan Chanchan looked at the mer who was acting weird, but didn’t say anything.

The two of them walked to Ruan family cave in silence. Ruan Chanchan didn’t speak, and Xie Daiyu was lost in his own thoughts. He was worried that with the passage of time, Ruan Chanchan would only glow brighter. This woman was bound to attract all kinds of mers in the future. If he didn’t imprint on her before the rest, then he would certainly lose the position of the prime husband!

How could he allow that to happen? Damn it, if only his mother had not stopped him.

"Ruan Chanchan, you are here." Nan Zhi, who was waiting for her, raised his head and looked up at Ruan Chanchan. After Ruan Chanchan saved the life of his sister, he no longer showed the same animosity toward Ruan Chanchan as he had in the past. He smiled at Ruan Chanchan, looking at her with a soft gaze that made Xie Daiyu stand up straight and look at the mer who was crouching beside Ruan Ziqiu.
