CHAPTER 156: A NEW TEAM (II)

On the other side, Guo An dragged Xie Daiyu outside the cave.

"Father!" Xie Daiyu angrily called his father. He couldn’t understand why Guo An stopped him. Even though the ritual didn’t seem dangerous, he didn’t want Ruan Chanchan to bleed for the tribe that had hurt her. What had they even done for her to bleed for them? Nothing. If anything, the entire tribe had hurt her more than once. Why should his destined one sacrifice her blood for the sake of a tribe like this?

Guo An sighed. He let go of Xie Daiyu and said to him, "I know that you are unwilling. But you need to think with your head instead of your heart. The tribe has more than just the elders and those who hurt Ruan Chanchan; you cannot ignore the plight of the elderly and the young cubs."

A stubborn part of Xie Daiyu wanted to say that he didn’t care about them either, but he couldn’t because he did care. He cared too much about the young cubs, the orphans and the elderly who had no one to take care of them.

Seeing that he had calmed down a little, Guo An’s eyes softened. He reached out and placed his hands over Xie Daiyu’s shoulders before saying softly, "I never thought that I would see you care for someone like this. Who would have thought that you would feel upset about a woman getting hurt? Were you not the one who kept saying that a woman was supposed to be strong? So strong that she shouldn’t even wince when she loses an arm. Now you are feeling upset just because Ruan Chanchan had to cut her fingers and sacrifice a little blood to the Beast Goddess?"

After a long pause, Xie Daiyu parted his pursed lips and said to Guo An, "That’s because she is my destined one. She is bound to be different from others. She is destined to be the closest person to me; how can I not feel upset upon hearing that Ruan Chanchan has to hurt herself for the sake of a tribe that hurt her so badly?"

Guo An’s eyes widened when he heard Xie Daiyu’s response, but at the same time, he understood why Xie Daiyu was willing to follow Ruan Chanchan. His son, who would rather break his spine than follow a woman who was weaker than him, was now willing to become mates with Ruan Chanchan.

Wasn’t it because he found out that the two of them were destined to be together with one another?

But at the same time, Guo An was a bit confused. Why was Ruan Chanchan destined to be with his son? The two of them were simply opposites!

However, this decision was made by the Beast Goddess. He was no one to question it.

Sighing, he patted Xie Daiyu on the shoulder. "I know that you are upset, but think things through thoroughly. You are going to be the next head of the tribe if you listen to your heart more than your head; you will lead the tribe to ruin like your mother."

Xie Daiyu’s lips twitched. "Mother will be really upset if she hears you, Father."

Guo An snorted. "She should be glad that I am only calling her a fool. With the stupid kindness she showed to those bloody snakes, she deserved to be called something, something really upsetting." Guo An would never forgive Chief Xie for her foolish actions in the past. He had warned her and the elders more than once to never trust those treachery-filled snakes, but they didn’t listen to him. One of the elders even thought that he was trying to cause chaos in the tribe for no reason. That he was being an alarmist for no reason.

That the black snake tribe was a perfectly nice and kind tribe, and he was the one being too suspicious of them. As if he had never seen what those snakes could do!

"Achoo!"

"Achoo!"

Ruan Chanchan pulled her hand back and looked at Chief Xie, who was having a sneezing fit. She blinked her eyes and looked at the woman nervously before looking down at the salt in her hands. Don’t tell her that Chief Xie was allergic to salt? Why was she sneezing so hard?

"Ah, don’t worry," Chief Xie wiped the tip of her nose and beamed at Ruan Chanchan. "It’s nothing; I think someone is talking behind my back." And knowing her husband too well, she knew who it was.

Ruan Chanchan: "..." Are you sure? It does look quite serious.

Though she had her own doubts, Ruan Chanchan didn’t say anything. Sucking in a breath, she asked Chief Xie, "Did you finish learning all the steps?"

Chief Xie nodded. The method of making the jerky was really simple. At least there were no extra or complicated steps involved, as she expected.

"I have learnt it." She hesitated and asked, "How much salt can you provide after one ritual, Ruan Chanchan?"

Ruan Chanchan thought about the many packs that might never go out of supply and replied promptly, "A pot?" She thought about the condition of the tribe and how close the winter was and realised that they needed to dry a lot of meat. So she answered according to that.

When Chief Xie heard her response, she heaved a sigh of relief.

"Good! I will ask the totem warrior to start hunting more. But I will not ask you to hand all the salt over for the time being; keep most of it and give me only a bowl." Chief Xie wanted to first try making this jerky. If the processing team couldn’t do it, then she would give it to someone else.

Ruan Chanchan had the same thought as well. She pursed her lips and said to Chief Xie, "If you trust me, then I will suggest that we create another team to process this jerky." Though she didn’t want to offend anyone in the processing team, there was a reason why she made such a suggestion.
