CHAPTER 167: I WILL DIE

Yuan Ni was looking at Ruan Chanchan with a confused look in his eyes. He was truly stumped. Earlier, he thought that Ruan Chanchan was actually scheming to get the tribe’s leader to give her some special benefits, but who would have thought that she was actually just trying to eat the mushrooms? Even now, he felt the little wounds on his back and arms burn. And if it were just these wounds, then he wouldn’t have bothered, but even his length felt like it had been scraped by something sharp.

The way she treated him made Yuan Ni feel heartbroken. It was as if she didn’t care about what he felt or thought. Not once did she show him even the smallest kindness. It made his heart ache in ways that he never thought were possible. All night, he only remembered one thing, and that was his old grandmother’s warning, where she repeatedly told him that he was going to regret it. And he did regret it. After last night, he realised that Shao Xia was not worth it.

At least it wasn’t worth giving his first time to her.

Shao Xia had no idea that Yuan Ni was already regretting getting together with her; at that moment, she was looking at Ruan Chanchan standing in the middle of the crowd while being praised by everyone. She didn’t believe that Ruan Chanchan knew how to distinguish between mushrooms. In her mind, she firmly believed that Ruan Chanchan must have been taught things by the chief, and the latter was only letting Ruan Chanchan take the opportunity to shine for the sake of saving face. After all, it was already embarrassing enough for her to let her son get together with a female who couldn’t shift into her beast form. On top of that, Ruan Chanchan didn’t know anything. No matter how much Chief Xie tried to save her face by making Ruan Chanchan look like she was doing something good in favour of the tribe, Shao Xia didn’t believe a single thing.

She was supposed to be standing in the centre of the crowd, being praised by everyone, and not Ruan Chanchan. The opportunity to be the centre of attention was supposed to be hers.

In her anger, Shao Xia completely forgot that in her past life without Ruan Chanchan, there was no such thing as mushrooms being identified. The matriarch of the tribe was not thinking about Xie Daiyu and was doing whatever she wanted to do, so she couldn’t blame her for being cruel. She had been thinking of how to deal with Ruan Chanchan all this time; she finally now had a chance to kill this woman and deal with her once and for all.

She turned and looked at Yuan Ni, who was not standing far from her. With a sweet smile plastered over her lips, she called him, "Yuan Ni, you said you were willing to die for me, didn’t you?" She placed her arm around Yuan Ni’s waist and pulled him closer while softly leaning toward him and whispering in his ear.

"Of course, I did," replied Yuan Ni. Even though he was disappointed in Shao Xia, he didn’t want to accept that the woman was not good. After all, he had been chasing after Shao Xia for so long and even fought with his grandmother because of her. If he returned to his cave, what would his grandmother say? Thus, when Shao Xia asked him whether he was willing to die for her or not, he agreed right away. Because he still had some hope in Shao Xia.

"Then I want you to go and look for mushrooms that Ruan Chanchan has declared as inedible. When you go out to collect the mushrooms, go and collect some that are toxic and eat them. Make sure to eat more than one such that their effects will be really effective," said Shao Xia coldly, her eyes glittering with a hint of chill in them as she looked at the woman in front of her; her gaze was like that of a poisonous snake that was hiding in the dark and ready to bite her prey at the right moment.

When Yuan Ni heard that she wanted him to eat a toxic mushroom, his eyes widened, and he said to Shao Xia, "This... is this really okay? Ruan Chanchan just said that if we eat these mushrooms, then we will die. If I eat these mushrooms, I might die, Shao Xia."
