CHAPTER 168: PUSHING HIM TO JUMP TO HIS DEATH!

"Were you not the one who kept clamouring that you could die for me? What happened? Don’t tell me that you were only telling me empty words?" Shao Xia looked at Yuan Ni with a frown on her face; she looked like she was really upset with what Yuan Ni had just told her.

"No, no, that’s not what I meant, Shao Xia. I never lied to you, but I never meant that I would die for you in such a way. I meant that if the situation called for it, I would protect you with my life. I never meant that I would die for you by eating mushrooms!?" He meant what he said, but who died so stupidly? He wanted to at least be remembered for doing something heroic instead of dying because he ate the wrong kind of mushroom.

"Why are you quibbling so much? I asked you to do it, so why won’t you do it? Is it that difficult?" Shao Xia asked with an annoyed look. She was clearly very unhappy with the questions that Yuan Ni was raising when all she asked him to do was to lower his head and follow her command.

When Yuan Ni saw that Shao Xia was angry, he lowered his head and agreed. He didn’t want to listen to her, but he had been following her for so many years; thus, even if his brain told him no, his heart was not listening to him at all. "Shao Xia, don’t get angry with me. If you want to, then I will listen to you." he was at a loss, with the woman whom he loved forcing him to die while his mind kept telling him that he was making a mistake. Yuan Ni didn’t know what to do. He wanted to refuse, but he was stubborn.

How could the person he loved treat him so casually? Did he make a mistake, or did he not do enough for Shao Xia? He couldn’t help but wonder where he was lacking.

Shao Xia didn’t care about Yuan Ni’s confused thoughts. She laughed lightly and reached out to run Yuan Ni’s head. With a chuckle, she said to him, "It would have been fine if you had listened to me. Why did you have to quarrel with me so much?"

Yuan Ni, though troubled, felt a bit touched when he saw Shao Xia smiling at him. He lowered his head and softly said, "Shao Xia, promise me that after I die, you will take care of my grandma. After me, she has no one. If I leave this world, then she will have no one to take care of her. Please do this one thing for the mer who loves you more than any mer who will ever love you."

A glint of impatience flashed in Shao Xia’s eyes when she heard his request, but for the sake of causing trouble for Ruan Chanchan, she was willing to take on this request.

"Of course, I will take care of your grandmother. Now you are mine; how can I not care about her?" She said sweetly as she kissed him on the cheek.

Yuan Ni felt his cold heart turn warm when he heard Shao Xia say that he was hers, and he followed her to her cave.

Ruan Chanchan was unaware of this. She was telling Chief Xie and the rest of the tribe that, currently, the weather was still warm and they should collect more mushrooms while the rainy season was still ongoing. That way they would have a better chance of stocking up the storage.

Chief Xie nodded and agreed with Ruan Chanchan’s suggestion. She asked the scouting team to collect more mushrooms and even asked them to bring the eggs of beasts and birds whenever they saw them.

As for the jerky, Chief Xie didn’t say anything about it. She would first silently recruit a few people to make the jerky, and once they succeeded, she would let them work on it before relaying the information to others. Anyway, the jerky required a lot of meat, and Ruan Chanchan was the only one who could provide them with so much salt. As it was her request to create a new team, Chief Xie didn’t think that it was too much. She was the chief of the tribe, and yet she couldn’t even provide her tribe with enough meat to eat in winter. Since the beast goddess had given her an opportunity, she would do anything in her power to make use of it.

Let those who want to get offended get offended.

No one in the tribe knew what Chief Xie was thinking about; they were really excited. Firstly, Ruan Chanchan had given them a pot of salt that they could use for cooking, and secondly, they finally had food to eat in winter. How could they not be excited?

Seeing the excitement of the tribe, Xie Daiyu was also infected. He turned to look at Ruan Chanchan and smiled at her before saying, "Thank you, Chanchan. It’s all thanks to you that our tribe finally has some hope." As he spoke, he took her hand into his and kissed the back of it.

Ruan Chanchan nodded. However, she was still not satisfied. She was still thinking about the beast market. Their tribe was way too small. They needed to get more alliances if they wanted to survive in this cutthroat world, or else they would be bullied to death by the Black Snake Tribe.

"Xie Daiyu, can you come with me?" She raised her head and looked at Xie Daiyu. "I want to go somewhere else to find food. I know a lot about all kinds of fruits and vegetables; maybe we will be able to find something else?" Ruan Chanchan wanted to go alone, but the treasure map showed these places were way too far from the tribe. Ruan Chanchan didn’t dare to go there alone, as she knew how dangerous these places could be.
