Half-Hearted: Mr. Sinclair, Stop the Act!
Chapter 15: The Talent for Acting
CHAPTER 15: CHAPTER 15: THE TALENT FOR ACTING
These past few years, she has poured her heart out for their mother and son, why?
Why exactly? Why treat her like this?
Sienna Monroe racked her brains but couldn’t understand. Hearing the sound of a door closing behind her, she tried hard to hold back her tears, licking her lips helplessly, and put away the despair and sadness from her face.
Yet the bitterness in her heart couldn’t be stopped from swelling slowly.
Caleb Sinclair walked over and saw her rigid figure, asking concernedly, "What’s wrong?"
She held back her sobbing, quickly came up with an excuse, and whispered, "I suddenly thought, should we also prepare a gift for Dad and that lady, and Susan when we return tomorrow? Otherwise, would they have thoughts and be unhappy?"
"That lady," naturally referring to the Sterling Family’s original wife, Rhonda Garrison.
Rhonda, a noble from The Garrison Family of Imperial City, was graceful and privileged; she had always hated June Ewing and her children, looking down on their mother and son.
The Sterling Family Head Isaac Sinclair and Rhonda entered into a family alliance marriage, lacking much affection; it was only because they had reached the point of mutual disgust that June Ewing found an opportunity.
Susan Sinclair is the Sterling Family’s only daughter, born to Rhonda, just over three years younger than Caleb.
Upon hearing, Caleb frowned slightly but soon relaxed, saying, "Hmm, you’re considerate. That lady loves to twist things and stir trouble. Tomorrow morning, just pick a few items from the storage room."
Sienna didn’t respond.
Rhonda is formidable but isn’t ruthless enough, otherwise, how would June Ewing and her son have the chance to step into the Sterling Family’s door?
As for June Ewing, now she feels chills just at the mention of that name.
This woman is simply synonymous with "vicious."
She glanced at the man before her, and suddenly her soul trembled.
Regarding the legal entity affair... does Caleb know?
That night, she tossed and turned restlessly.
The following morning at half past ten, their car drove into the Sterling Family’s eight-hundred-square estate courtyard villa, parked in front of the main building, with eight servants standing in two rows, and the butler, a middle-aged man in his forties, walked up with a smile.
"Third Young Master, Third Young Madam, welcome back."
Caleb nodded, "Are my parents both around?"
"The Family Head and First Young Master, Second Young Master have gone to the company, saying there’s an important meeting in the morning, they’ll be back for dinner." The butler replied respectfully, "The First Madam and Fifth Miss are in the main building; Second Madam is waiting for you two in the side building."
The Sterling Family courtyard connects three independent villas; ever since June Ewing came, she and Caleb have been living in the side building at the rear right of the main building.
Everything related to food, clothing, housing, and transportation is separated from the main building, unless for important days like festivals, June Ewing would go to the main building for meals.
The feelings between Isaac Sinclair and Rhonda have long faded like water; he mainly stays at June Ewing’s place, but he still maintains Rhonda’s dignity as the Sterling Family’s original wife.
Every breakfast and lunch at home would be eaten with Rhonda at the main building.
Since they’re back, they must first pay a visit to the First Madam, it’s customary.
Sienna doesn’t want to be caught up in these trivial matters, so she instructed the servants to bring down the few items she prepared, and went into the main building alongside Caleb.
Just as they reached the door, they heard crisp and pleasant sounds of a girl’s laughter coming from inside.
The butler stepped forward to announce, "Madam, Third Young Master and Third Young Madam are back."
The laughter inside abruptly ceased, Rhonda and Susan Sinclair’s gaze together turned to the entrance.
"First Madam." Caleb nodded in greeting.
Rhonda gave the two a fleeting glance, sipped her tea lightly, "Back to celebrate your mom’s birthday?"
"Yes, we don’t come back often." Sienna gestured to the several gift boxes in the servant’s hands, "Just prepared some humble gifts for Madam and sister Susan."
Considered both tact and appearances.
As for whether the mother and daughter would appreciate them is beyond Sienna’s concerns.
Although Rhonda looks down on June Ewing and Caleb, she never made things difficult for Sienna who is well-behaved and knows her boundaries, at most her manner is slightly cold.
She replied indifferently, "You’re thoughtful. Your mom has been anticipating this morning, no need to waste time here, just head straight over."
Though having only stayed for a few minutes, Rhonda never once looked directly at them.
Caleb was slightly displeased, his voice remained gentle and courteous, "Then we’ll take our leave first, and come back to visit next time."
With that said, he led Sienna by hand out of the main building, following the outdoor corridor toward the side building.
Sienna knew Caleb similarly disliked facing Rhonda, even would be under invisible pressure in her presence.
Perhaps it’s psychological shadows from being repressed by their mother and son duo in childhood.
The past Sienna trapped in the whirlpool of love would feel sorry for him, occasionally blinded, thinking that the First Madam and her children were sometimes too much.
But now, once that love filter is shattered, she felt no waves within, using the pretense of checking time on her phone from her bag to pull her hand out from his palm.
As the original wife, Rhonda’s hatred towards the mistress’ mother and son is only natural.
The main building is not far from the side building, passing through a promenade and a garden paved with pebbles, a young elegant woman in a long dark purple cheongsam could be seen standing at the door looking out.
She maintained well, that pretty face showed no trace of age, not even a wrinkle at the corner of her eye, figure gracefully slender.
"Mom."
Caleb called out with a smiling expression.
June Ewing greeted joyfully, bypassing Caleb directly, arriving at Sienna’s side, "Sienna, you’ve come. Oh, hasn’t it been long since last seen, how has it feels like you’ve lost weight? Your complexion looks poor."
Said and threw a cutting glance sideways at Caleb, "Haven’t you been taking care of Sienna? Look, her chin’s all pointy now."
Caleb was helpless.
It had always been like this, every time June Ewing saw her, she would show concern about her health, as well as work.
Sienna still couldn’t discern their genuineness, if not everything said in the messages had all been verified, she would have considered last night’s message a fantasy.
Now it seems, their mother and son duo do have a gift for acting.
If venturing into acting, winning Best Actor or Actress probably wouldn’t be a big issue.
