Half-Hearted: Mr. Sinclair, Stop the Act!
Chapter 36: Sebastian Prescott’s Overcoat (Revised)
CHAPTER 36: CHAPTER 36: SEBASTIAN PRESCOTT’S OVERCOAT (REVISED)
Sienna Monroe was quite surprised. The drizzling rain pattered against the car window, obscuring her view slightly, but Sebastian Prescott’s handsome and cold face was etched deeply in her mind.
Not even a bit blurred.
Even on such a rainy day, he didn’t appear the least bit dim. It seemed like there was always a light shining for him.
Sebastian knocked on the car window with his fingers, indicating for her to get out.
Sienna snapped back to reality, turned on the car’s hazard lights, and pushed the door to get out.
There was no umbrella in her car, so she raised her hand intending to block the rain with it, but before she could, the cold raindrops didn’t fall on her face as she expected.
When she looked up, there was a black umbrella over her head.
She was stunned, her gaze fixed on Sebastian’s shoulder exposed to the rain.
The streetlights weren’t very bright on this road, and there was a thin layer of mist in the air.
Everything around was soft and hazy.
Sienna opened her mouth wanting to greet him, but he spoke first, his voice low and calm, "Take photos for evidence, call the police and inform the insurance company."
"Oh... okay."
Sienna closed her mouth, swallowed the words that were about to spill out, nodded, and took out her phone, snapping several photos of the point where the two cars met from different angles.
After all, Sebastian was a lawyer, and his temperament wasn’t the kind to settle privately just because you’re acquaintances.
After they finished making their calls, Sienna asked, "Are we just going to wait here for the police and insurance people to arrive?"
"It’s not safe here, let’s go to the side of the road," Sebastian said.
"Alright."
Sienna nodded, standing under the umbrella, and walked side by side with him to the roadside. Through the rain, she looked at the two "intimately" connected cars, coughed lightly, and broke the silence.
"Cough, sorry, Lawyer Prescott, this was an accident, I..."
It had been almost ten years since she got her driving license, and she had always driven steadily without any accidents or incidents, not even a scratch.
She didn’t expect her first accident to be rear-ending Sebastian’s car.
"If there are no surprises, you’re fully liable."
Sebastian wore a black Omega diamond watch on his wrist, his fingers long and distinctively jointed, firmly holding the umbrella handle, his tone cool and composed.
Sienna awkwardly laughed twice, "Ah hehe... I know."
The cold wind of the rainy night was harsh and piercing. Today was a busy and important day as it was the first exhibition, so she dressed more for appearance, wearing a light champagne-colored Chanel suit with a skirt just below the knee.
While they spoke, the rain seemed to get heavier, as did the wind.
Sienna sniffed, couldn’t help but shiver, and rubbed her icy fingers.
She asked, "Are you still not heading home this late?"
"Working late," Sebastian casually retorted, "what about you?"
Sienna thought of something to say in her mind but couldn’t find the right words and finally gave up, "Catching a cheater."
Sebastian glanced at her, "Did you catch them?"
"Sort of," she said, "He went to the villa he bought for his mistress."
"Keep that safe."
"Okay."
They fell into silence again, leaving only the sound of the drizzling rain in the quiet atmosphere like a symphony dedicated to the rainy night.
Waiting always felt long and awkward.
After a while, Sebastian spoke up, "I found two people who have a good relationship with June Ewing, whether they are involved in Radiance Beauty Spa’s underground industry is still under investigation."
Sienna was slightly stunned, "Who are they?"
"Mrs. Hanson Sarah Caldwell, Junior Madam of the Second Vaughn Branch Sandra Alden."
Sienna was slightly stunned.
Mrs. Hanson and Mrs. Vaughn, they were mentioned in the anonymous texts.
But she never looked into it.
Unexpectedly, Sebastian found out.
She frowned, "The two of them are shareholders in the underground industry, they met at a socialite training class."
Moreover, the three of them had something in common.
The homewrecker’s rise to power.
And they were quite successful. Except for June Ewing, the other two managed to push the original spouses out.
Though The Sterling Family was still under Rhonda Garrison’s rule, as the head of the family, Isaac Sinclair’s heart seemed to be with June Ewing.
Seems like that socialite training class really had some substance.
Not to be underestimated.
"You knew?"
"I only found out a few days ago, but I haven’t found any evidence that they are shareholders yet," Sienna said, "but... I found some of the underground industry’s account books, and a project plan for the development and operation of the underground industry... but only half of it."
Sebastian, "Send it to me."
"Alright."
After Sienna sent him the photos she took that day, the police arrived, and they walked to the car and were asked for their driver’s licenses.
"Sorry, I didn’t bring my license, I left it in another car, this car was a last-minute change. Is an electronic license okay?"
The police checked the vehicle’s information, "This isn’t your car?"
"Yes, this is my husband’s."
While answering, Sienna moved her stiff fingers, searching for her electronic license on her phone.
The rain grew heavier, the wind more biting. Her pant legs were soaked, and her nose and ears turned red from the cold.
Sebastian’s cold gaze fell on her face, then slowly moved to her slightly trembling shoulders.
That obviously fierce-looking face now seemed a bit pitiful and fragile yet pretending to be strong.
He couldn’t help furrowing his brow, "Don’t you have another coat?"
Sienna was slightly stunned, then forced a smile, "I was indoors all day, so I didn’t wear anything thick..."
Sebastian said nothing, and after the police verified her license, he handed the umbrella to her, taking off his coat and handing it to her.
"It’s going to take time for them to handle this, and the insurance people aren’t here yet. Just wear it for now."
The winter night’s rain and wind, including his voice at that moment, were cold.
But Sienna could clearly feel the warmth of his coat spreading to her icy hands.
She opened her mouth, a bit at a loss.
But Sebastian had already turned and opened the car door to get his license for the police, taking back the umbrella from her. He calmly and orderly recounted the incident to the police.
The coat carried a faint scent of cedar. It wasn’t unfamiliar to her; she had smelled it several times before when she met him.
Her lips moved as if to say something, but she eventually chose not to overreact. She was indeed cold, and it was becoming unbearable.
So she said "Thank you" and straightforwardly put on the coat.
With her height of 172 cm, she was considered tall, yet the coat still seemed large and loose on her.
The warmth from the coat quickly enveloped her, and the hands that were originally numbed by the cold slowly regained feeling. The Chanel suit no longer let the wind in.
The police assigned the responsibility to Sienna, and the insurance people arrived. After negotiations and signing the accident responsibility form, the police and insurance people left one after another.
Sienna apologized to him once again, "Lawyer Prescott, I’m sorry for today and thank you very much."
In the rain for so long, he kept the umbrella up and actively communicated with the lawyer.
If it were someone else’s car she had hit, especially in this weather, she couldn’t imagine how miserable she would have been.
"No need."
Sebastian replied flatly.
Sienna pursed her lips and looked down at the coat, its hem was almost soaked through, to the point of dripping water.
She felt somewhat guilty and sincerely said, "Thank you, really, I’m not just saying that out of politeness, especially with this coat..."
It had been over an hour since the accident to its resolution.
She had worn his coat for almost forty to fifty minutes, and the heat had been lost, with the biting cold invading from all sides, causing her to shiver.
"If you don’t mind, I can take this coat back to dry clean it and send it back to you, is that alright?"
Sebastian’s eyes flickered with a hint of surprise, and the words of refusal that were about to come out changed at the last moment, "As you wish."
