Wade glanced at the bread in Caryll's hand and asked, "Can you even eat that?"

The surrounding students assumed they were discussing the differences between British and American food, but Caryll immediately understood—Wade knows I am a vampire now.

Caryll said in surprise, "I heard the headmaster values you a lot. Turns out that's true!"

Then, shaking the bread in his hand, he added: "Don't worry. It's not exactly to my taste, but it's enough to keep me full. Dumbledore even said the kitchen would prepare a special meal for me."

"Why?" Michael blurted out angrily, nearly shouting.

Both Wade and Caryll glanced at him in sync before looking away.

"What about housing?" Wade asked.

"No idea… How many people are in your dorm? Think you can fit me in?" Caryll asked.

"No way," Michael scoffed. "You're a Gryffindor. You have to stay in Gryffindor Tower."

Caryll glanced at him, then made a move to stand up. "Then I'll go ask the headmaster. Maybe he'll make an exception for me."

"Not happening," Wade said. "School rules say you have to stay in Gryffindor Tower."

"Alright then." Caryll sat back down, smiling. "Hope it's not too crowded… I get uncomfortable in cramped spaces."

Although vampires could survive on animal blood or stored blood from hospitals, their strongest craving was always for fresh, warm human blood.

Wade thought to himself that there was probably no professor in the world more tolerant than Dumbledore. First, he let a werewolf into the school, and now a vampire.

He said, "Gryffindor's third-year boys' dorms are already full, so the school will probably assign you a private room."

"That's a relief… Oh, by the way, tomorrow I have Muggle Studies, Transfiguration, and Potions. What are the professors like? Are they easy to get along with?"

The two of them casually discussed life at Hogwarts, and looked just like any other pair of normal friends.

At first, the nearby students were startled by Caryll's bold actions, but upon realizing he and Wade were old acquaintances, they gradually lost interest.

Only Michael frowned slightly.

No one noticed that Luna Lovegood, who was sitting diagonally across from them, quietly picked up her plate and, like a small shadow, slipped away behind the others to sit at the farthest spot from Caryll.

Unlike the Start-of-Term Feast, Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall didn't give any speeches after dinner, and students began dispersing in small groups.

"Caryll Johnson." Percy approached again and said, "Come with me. I'll take you to your dormitory."

"Does it have to be now?" Caryll asked. "Curfew isn't for a few more hours, is it?"

"Huh?" Percy was stunned. Other than his twin brothers, he had never encountered a younger student who openly contradicted him.

This year, he was the Head Boy of Hogwarts and was often responsible for managing students on behalf of the professors. Because of this, no one had dared to challenge his authority.

—Of course, the Weasley twins are the exception.

Before Percy could get angry, he heard Caryll say, "Sorry, I just transferred from America, so I'm not very familiar with the rules of this school."

That single sentence extinguished the anger that hadn't even ignited yet.

"Can I come find you at eleven instead? I heard Gryffindor has a common room… Before then, I'd like to catch up with an old friend I haven't seen in a long time."

Caryll glanced at the badge on Percy's chest and added, "I hope such a small request can be granted—Mr. Head Boy."

Percy's eyebrows twitched slightly. He straightened his posture and said generously, "Alright… Eleven o'clock. Don't be late."

As Percy walked away, Caryll turned back, winked, and grinned smugly. "Settled!"

When dinner ended, the sky hadn't yet darkened.

Caryll wanted to explore the school. Wade originally planned to show him the routes to their classrooms for tomorrow's lessons, but Caryll suggested looking around outside the castle first.

"We can check out the classrooms anytime, but the sun will set soon," Caryll reasoned.

Wade didn't quite understand. "But the lawns outside will also look the same no matter when you see them."

Even so, since Caryll insisted, Wade stood up from his seat.

By now, the setting sun was perched on the distant mountain peaks, casting deep shadows over the Forbidden Forest. The hedge Maze looked even larger in the fading light, and a long queue had formed at its entrance.

Wade suddenly realized—it had actually been a long time since he had visited the maze himself.

"Wade, did your headmaster assign you some kind of task?" Caryll suddenly asked. "Like looking after me, the new student?"

Then he added, "I can't shake the feeling that you don't really want to deal with me."

Wade had assumed Caryll was too carefree to notice. After a brief pause, he finally said, "As long as you don't suddenly go crazy and try to jump off a tower, I don't really mind."

Caryll froze for a second. Then, all of a sudden, he burst into laughter—so hard that tears nearly came out. His stomach ached from laughing, so he simply sat down on the grass.

"Hahaha… So this is how you've always seen me… Hahahahaha!"

Wade stood beside him and patiently waited for him to finish laughing before asking, "Is that really so funny? You're thirteen now. You should understand that jumping off a twenty-meter tower means certain death."

He couldn't understand. "You dragged me along to die, and you still find it funny?"

Caryll wiped away his tears and looked up. "For ordinary people, yes, they'd probably die… But we're wizards!"

Wade was stunned and frowned without saying anything.

Caryll ran a hand over his face and said, "I guess it's my fault… Maybe breaking my leg hurt too much, so I forgot to explain."

"When I was seven… One time, I was almost hit by a car on the street. But the next thing I knew, I was already on top of a church roof."

"Of course, I didn't know what magic was back then—I thought I had superpowers, that I could fly. And I wanted to show you."

"When I went to find you, do you know what I saw? You were reading a book, and you reached for a cup of water beside you… The cup was at least a foot away, but as soon as you stretched out your hand, it slid over to you on its own."

Wade tried hard to recall but had no memory of this at all.

All he remembered was that before receiving his Hogwarts acceptance letter, he had never shown any special abilities—and did not even know that magic existed.

Caryll seemed to know what he was thinking and chuckled. "You don't remember, do you? Because you did it unconsciously."

"When I saw that, I thought you and I were both superpowered. But when I told you about it, you thought I was just reading too many superhero comics. You even told me that superpowers don't exist in the real world."

"I wanted to prove it to you, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't make my powers work again… Then I thought, maybe superpowers only appear in life-threatening situations."

That was something he had learned from superhero comics.

Caryll was the type to act on his ideas immediately.

"So you dragged me to jump off a lighthouse? Just to awaken our powers?" Wade said coldly. "Did it never cross your mind that we might actually die?"

"Of course I thought about it! I laid down a lot of hay…"

Caryll sighed. "My plan was to jump first and fly down. By the time you reached the bottom, you'd see me already standing there all cool, and then you'd believe me."

"But in the end, I just broke my leg instead… Hahaha, I really failed miserably."
