Vincent did not immediately answer him, but asked a question instead. "In the test, you said you would find a way to save Menes. What did you have in mind?"

"What?"

"Tell me your thought process."

"Huh, I was thinking of paying for his treatment," Christian answered truthfully.

"With what money?"

"Well, I know a way to conjure gold, so I was thinking of using it."

"That wouldn't work," Vincent shook his head. "That amount of money would be checked, revealing your trickery."

"Is that so? In that case, I guess I would brew the Luck Potion to find a vein of mineral or an Ember Spot, and sell it for a high price."

"In your reality, there might be little to no consequences for messing with luck, but in this place with a decent level of mystery, you would be playing with fire," Vincent shook his head.

"Really? I didn't think luck was such interesting type of magic. What consequences are we talking about?"

"Pay attention. What other solutions do you have?" Vincent asked.

"I don't know," Christian said, growing tired of this conversation. "If everything else fails, I would probably study healing magic to find a solution of my own. At the very least, I think I could find a method to preserve his life for a long period."

Vincent looked at him. "I guess I'll give you a passing grade for having the right mindset."

Christian wanted to roll his eyes. "Now, can you tell me what happened to him?"

"He's alive, but he has completely lost his affinity for arcane magic. On top of that, he's lost too much life energy, and he won't live past the age of 55."

"That's harsh," Christian muttered. For wizards who can easily live past 120 years old as long as there are no accidents, fifty-five was considered a young age to die.

"Not really. If not for you, I would not have ordered to give him the best treatment, and he would have died in his early 20s."

"Is blue powder that terrifying?"

"It is, and you should watch out in case someone tries to harm you with it," Vincent announced.

"It exists in my reality?"

"The materials needed to create it are not that rare, so I would not be surprised if it does."

"I'll pay attention," Christian nodded. "What about Kallista? Is she really alright?"

"She's more than alright. In fact, you may have done her a service."

"Oh?"

"Have you ever wondered why her hair is black?"

"That's right. Veelas are supposed to have white-gold hair," Christian muttered.

"Her lineage is from a far nobler bloodline, but they were cursed by the gods and turned into Veelas. Her black hair is a symbol of that lineage. When you altered her bloodline and reverted it, you accidentally activated that bloodline.

"Before, her talent was only decent. Now, her affinity for Poison Magic is unlike anything I've seen before. If cultivated correctly, she will be a force to reckon with." Vincent explained.

"I'm glad she's alright. But I still don't understand how I supposedly altered her. I've never learned that magic."

"It's not hard to figure out. You already have the potential to learn Alteration Magic. During the healing process, you entered a deep state of focus due to adrenaline and the desire to save her, temporarily boosting your magic to a higher level," Vincent said.

"That actually makes sense," Christian nodded. He remembered that he had indeed entered a deep state of concentration, and he desperately wanted to save Kallista without messing things up.

"Well, is that everything?"

"Huh, I think so."

"Then, it's time for me to take my leave. Remember my warnings," Vincent said before disappearing from his position. Christian could not tell what spell he used; he did not know whether he teleported away, became invisible, or moved at a speed beyond his eyes could catch.

'How powerful is he?' Christian thought before walking away from this hall of the library. He soon saw Kallista flipping randomly through a thick book, with many eyes secretly on her.

"You're finally back," Kallista said.

"Have you been waiting?"

"Never mind that," Kallista said, her cheek slightly red. "I heard the trial will officially end in three days, but registration for classes has already started. Let's go register for the Introduction to Incantation Magic."

"Don't worry about that for now," Christian replied.

"How can I forget? Someone like you probably doesn't need the introductory course."

"That's not what I mean. I'm going to check on Menes, and I have something to say to you. Let's go and I'll tell you on the way."

"Alright, let me return this book first."

The two walked out of the library a few minutes later. Christian ensured there were no eyes around before telling Kallista what the Curator said.

"Why am I not surprised you met the Curator?"

"That's your first thought?" Christian asked.

"I've always suspected there was another reason why our lineage was eradicated. Your words only confirmed my thoughts," Kallista said with a raised eyebrow. "Regardless, I should thank you."

"I didn't really do anything."

"On the contrary. You not only saved my life, but also gifted me a bright future," Kallista responded, a gleam of joy and cruelty flashed deep in her eyes.

"Be careful not to let the hatred engulf you," Christian suddenly warned.

"What? You don't think I should take my revenge?"

"Not at all. I'm even sure it will be cathartic, but only if you don't let it consume you — if you don't let it be the only thing that gives your life meaning."

Kallista pondered these words. Most people would tell her not to seek revenge, that she would be just like those people who eradicated her family. However, Christian's point of view, which was to seek revenge but not let it define who she was, which sounded like good advice.

"I'll keep your words in mind."

Christian nodded, and they continued their journey to the Healing Hall. Upon arriving at their destination, Christian asked the staff in charge where Menes was being treated. However, she gave him a strange look before handing him a letter and a message that Menes did not want to see any visitors.

Puzzled, Christian opened and read the letter. A frown immediately crept over his face.

"What does it say?" Kallista asked.

"He apologized for putting the team in that situation and thanked me for saving his life. He also promised to repay the kindness, but for now, he did not want to see any of us."

"That's a decent reaction considering his life is over," Kallista uttered.

"What do you mean?"

"Due to the intense competition in these clans, it's relatively common to abuse blue powder. However, there is a hidden rule: do not get caught. Once someone is discovered, they will become a disgrace to their clan and will be immediately exiled. In some severe situations, the clan might secretly eliminate the sinner."

"Menes, he…"

"The best course of action for him is to move to the Far South or the Far West to start a new life where no one knows him, and the influence of his family cannot reach," Kallista sighed.

Christian took one more look at the letter before putting it away. He wrote a letter of his own to show his understanding, and also shared Kallista's advice to move away. He handed it to the staff before leaving the infirmary.

"Where to now?" Kallista asked.

"I need to get a few things in the third area before heading to the first area and start memorizing books."

"I need to start learning the basics of poison magic in the first area, but I can take a short trip with you," Kallista smiled.
