CHAPTER 283: CHAPTER 283. THE RUNESMITH LECTURE 1

"Anyway, can you help me? I need to get to one of the lecture halls of the Runesmith Department. The Holiday Segar Block."

’So he’s here for a runesmith lecture, huh. This guy wants to dabble in runes too? What an ambitious fellow.’

Anaya couldn’t help but be shocked. Being an alchemist with a purity level that would leave alchemical prodigies sitting in the dust, when he was a monstrous combatant at the same time, was already an extremely terrifying feat. If he managed to become a runesmith too, wouldn’t that be too incredulous?

Anaya couldn’t help but think that even the royal family of the Empire would have to start paying attention to him due to his terrifying abilities. The Society President was really just seventeen years old? Was this really true? How could a seventeen-year-old be so terrifying?

Insomuch as the royal family did not prefer having a society on campus, preferring to have their prodigies vie and strive for at least three councillor positions on the student council, which they had currently secured, it was obvious that these councillors would report Kailen’s feats to the royal family. Also, there were some instructors belonging to the royal family on campus. She wouldn’t even be surprised if they had already started paying attention to him. However, he was yet to achieve any merits for the Empire, so they would just be observing him for now.

Having mused this to herself in the time it would take to blink an eye, Anaya nodded to Kailen’s request.

"Sure. I’m heading towards that direction at the moment."

Kailen nodded. "Thanks."

With that, the duo turned into streaks of light and disappeared towards the target location.

Having crossed several locations in peaceful silence, they finally arrived at the current location—the Holiday Segar Complex, a towering, ancient-looking pagoda with its peak peering through the clouds.

"We are here." Anaya nodded to Kailen, about to turn towards a particular direction, when an annoying voice rang out, almost making Kailen himself face-palm at all the cliché arrogant young master crap he had been encountering.

"Well, well, well, if it isn’t the pretty Anaya. Finally managed to dump that piece of shit and on to the next one, errr—"

A male figure with a handsome face and short-trimmed hair appeared before Anaya and Kailen, his statement drawing the attention of several individuals at the mention of Anaya’s name. She was, after all, a prodigy runesmith, well known amongst the second years in the Runesmith Department. The fellow, although handsome, had the kind of face that made one annoyed on seeing him. Simply put, he had an annoying vibe around him.

"Farell, what do you want?"

Kailen noticed from the brief interaction that clearly, from Anaya’s expression, she wasn’t on good terms with this arrogant young master conjured straight out of a cliché novel, who obviously had feelings for Anaya.

Kailen was extremely fed up with all these unreasonable guys showing up on his doorstep. Not only did the fellow call Lian Yu—the vice president of the society he had just founded—a piece of shit, he called Anaya, Lian Yu’s lady, a prostitute indirectly by saying that she was hopping from one man to another. Plus, he also deemed Kailen a cheap guy Anaya had dumped Lian Yu for. All these were implied in this Farell’s few words.

If Kailen remained silent about the nonsense the fellow was spouting, not only would people misunderstand things, it would not bode well for the prestige of the society, as people would think the Sword Tribunal Society could easily be bullied. As the president, and friend of Lian Yu and Anaya, he had to step up for them.

Before the fellow could reply Anaya, Kailen voiced calmly:

"Enough simping for the lady’s attention. She’s simply not interested in you. So fuck off."

Kailen simply voiced coldly, leaving the fellow dumbfounded and utterly annoyed at his words.

"You... If you dare, fight me! In the life and death arena, instead of protecting your woman with nonsensical words!" Farell replied, bellowing in rage with his spittle flying all over.

Kailen could not help but think that this guy was indeed the epitome of arrogant young masters in all the novels he used to read on Earth—good looks with annoying vibes, obsession with a prodigious female character, and an unbridled temper.

He replied with an innocent expression on his face. "I don’t get you. If you have a problem with her man, then you have the wrong person. I’m just a good society president, defending the honor of the chief runesmith of the Sword Tribunal Society."

Kailen’s words managed to let the crowd understand that he was not going out with Anaya, and that he had solely acted in her interest as a society president, placating any annoying rumors that would start to spread and cause unnecessary headaches for Lian Yu and Anaya.

"Then in that case, I challenge Lian Yu to a life and death duel. If he doesn’t show up, it means he’s not a man. Another man had to defend the pride of his woman in his place. Surely, it would be a perfect confirmation to the fact that he does not deserve you, Anaya." At the latter part of his statement, he turned to look at Anaya with a possessive smile that made Anaya, Kailen, and the onlookers—especially several ladies observing the scene—show expressions of disgust on their faces.

Anaya shook her head alongside Kailen, completely ignoring the fellow as he turned around to leave with his entourage of lackeys.

"I’ll fill you and the leaders of the society in about him later. I have a lecture to attend now. After that, I have to see Lian Yu and tell him about the crap this bastard pulled. I’ve been hiding this bastard’s nonsense from him for a while now because I didn’t want him to do something that could cause headaches for him later on, but I guess I was wrong."

Kailen nodded at her words. After that, Anaya left, heading towards another building complex for her lecture.

"Talk about drama. Had some of these intolerable fellows been on Earth, they would have been old enough to be my grandparents, yet they are acting like teenage spoilt brats."

Kailen headed into the Holiday Segar Block. It was time for his first lecture.
