"These rank 3 Runesmiths are hegemons in low tier civilisations, their runes having the ability to have a supreme stage galactic level effect.

Someone of my calibre, a rank 2 runesmith, may be powerful, but the gap between a rank 2 and rank 3 runesmith is extremely wide.

Enough about the ranks.

Let’s talk about runes, what are they?"

Kailen perked his ears at this point. This was the most important aspect of the lecture.

It seemed the instructor wanted to do the honors of personally explaining this concept in order to help her students understand it well.

Calmly floating above the podium, with all eyes glued on her, an image of certain symbols appeared on the large holographic screen before her and that of the students.

The symbols were runes.

With that, she began her explanation, her voice calm and sonorous.

"The universe runs on energy, but raw universe energy is chaotic.

Runes are the programming codes that tell this energy what to do — like lines of script that compile into reality.

The beings of awakeners, for instance, are full of universe energy pathways. For each awakener, these universe energy pathways in their beings consist of intrinsic runes—runes that naturally sprout during the awakening process, shaping universe energy into different affinities."

Kailen nodded in understanding.

Runes were like the language that determined the constant, directed, and intended flow of universe energy.

It was as though runes were languages, directions that universe energy understood and acted according to.

The instructor gave another example.

"Applications of runesmithery such as protecting arrays, rune oaths, rune inscribed weapons, rune teleportation scrolls, rune bombs, etc., simply work on the logic of the very definitions of what runes are. The functioning of these rune applications simply relies on the concept of the Runesmith crafting a language that universe energy has to act according to.

For instance, rune protection arrays are formed on the basis of the Runesmith crafting a rune language that directs universe energy to simulate a protective mechanism. This same principle applies for all applications of runesmithery. To put it in simple words, runesmithery is all about using the very programming language of universe energy—runes—to direct universe energy to act according to the rune language artifacted by the Runesmith."

The class, Kailen included, couldn’t help but appreciate the instructor’s ability to make the concept of runes extremely basic for them.

She nodded, satisfied on seeing the attentive expressions on their faces.

"However, like every secondary Carrier, runesmithery is not an easy field to venture into."

The moment she finished speaking, she swiped the holographic screen in a scholarly manner, causing several millions of strange symbols to appear on the holographic screens.

"These are rune alphabets, a required foundation for runesmithery—and even I have to say that they still give me a headache, a testament to the saying that there’s no end to learning.

You have to keep learning new rune alphabets and comprehend how to combine them into rune words, then into sentences, in order to make runes."

The students nodded at her words, understanding the weight of them.

Even she, a rank 2 Runesmith, did not find it shameful to admit that rune alphabets still gave her a headache. This strongly implied that comprehending rune alphabets was not an easy task. Many, Kailen included, understood the gravity of her words.

Also, her words meant that they couldn’t even think about making runes if they could not understand rune alphabets and combine them into sentences.

Kailen figured it made complete sense though.

He remembered when he started learning the International Federation language officially in school. One had to learn alphabets, then proceed to learn how to form sentences that could be understood.

Naturally, runes were also a language—one understood by universe energy. Hence, runesmithery required the same process.

How could one expect universe energy to understand you when you couldn’t communicate and form ’proper sentences’ in the only language it could understand—runes?

The instructor’s next words snapped Kailen’s concentration back to her.

"There’s a structured learning method for achieving this, and they can be purchased at the end of the lecture from the stores or the rune department at a basic amount of student credits.

This aspect of runesmithery requires a determined will and high comprehension skills.

If you are a slow learner, now may be the best time to decide to ditch this path."

Several students inwardly groaned and sighed at her words, making silent decisions to not return to the next lecture.

She layered further.

"A crucial aspect of runesmithery, apart from the aforementioned you have to note too, is that as a Runesmith, you need spiritual power to write runes.

If you are not someone who is gifted with an innate awakening of spiritual power, you are not qualified to be a Runesmith."

Her words were sharp, truthful, blunt.

Several students groaned inwardly, depressed at the revelation that sentenced their desire to be Runesmiths to death.

Oblivious to the thoughts of the students, she furthered,

"As for those of you with spiritual power, you must understand that spiritual power naturally increases in strength alongside your cultivation.

This means that as a Runesmith, inasmuch as it may be fine to not be a direct combat-oriented person, you have to take your cultivation seriously for the sake of your runesmithery career!

A formidable Runesmith is not only someone who has high comprehension skills, but also someone who takes their cultivation seriously!

A bottleneck halting one’s advancement to the next level of runesmithery may lie in an incomplete comprehension of a particular area, but could also arise from deficient spiritual power.

For instance, you cannot be a rank 2 Runesmith with a cultivation of a beginner stage galactic level lifeform—but you must rather have the cultivation of an intermediate stage galactic level lifeform!"

The students nodded gravely in understanding, Kailen included.

For instance, many who had approached this career with thoughts of slacking off in the area of cultivation realized it was time to renew their mindsets.

They realized that, as the instructor had pointed out earlier, they may not be directly combat-oriented, which was normal for those who were willing to solely focus on runesmithery, but they had to spend resources to increase their cultivation in order to improve their spiritual power.

Else, they would not be able to advance in their runesmith career.
