Rabin and Nydrian led a small group of soldiers into the jungle. Although the term "small" was used, the reality was that the majority of their forces consisted of supply carriers, functioning more like pack mules. Despite this, there wasn’t a trace of anxiety in the eyes of the soldiers.

"Rabin, what kind of person is the pack mule?"

"Why? You interested?"

"I was just curious. Lately, everyone seems to be relying on him."

Rabin didn’t particularly like Nydrian. Though the timid archer hadn’t actively participated in Lin’s bullying, Rabin was well aware of the disdain and disgust the elf had always directed toward him. After the painful lessons learned in the Church, and after reflecting in the old ruins of the filthy alley, Rabin had finally come to recognize Arsil’s value. Seeing an elf still behaving so aloof and arrogant irritated her greatly.

"He's been someone reliable ever since we were kids."

However, Rabin knew that with a major battle looming, there was no need to stir up unnecessary conflict, especially not with the Demon Lord they were about to face. If they let their egos clash, it would only unsettle the soldiers following behind them.

"He’s kind but strict when he needs to be, especially when it comes to respect. Back when I used to look at the world through a cynical lens, he would scold me and Arsil, telling us we’d make terrible mistakes when it came to people we cared about if we didn’t change our ways."

"Hmm. I see."

Despite her efforts to suppress her dislike and answer sincerely, Nydrian’s response was lukewarm at best.@@novelbin@@

Rabin sighed inwardly, confirming her initial feelings and tried to brush it off.

"Did you and the pack mule both grow up in the slums? Does that mean you both see looting and embezzlement as no big deal?"

"...What are you trying to say?"

Rabin felt the sting in his words and stopped in her tracks, growling at Nydrian.
