bChapter /b38

Yosef let out a breathyugh, so angry he found bit /bfunny.

He’d fed and pampered Adam with everything he could offer, and now the kid had the nerve to throw a tantrum and get mad bat /bbhim/bb? /b

Yet in front bof /bSkrb, /bhe was all sweetness and sunshine. A double standard at such a young age–unbelievable.

“bDaddy/b, why are you looking at me like that?” Adam tilted his head suspiciously.

bYosef /bscoffed. “Like what?”

“With that ‘disgusted‘ look.” Adam puffed up his cheeks unhappily. “Mommy, you need to help me scold Daddy!”

Skr nced over at Yosef and said gently, “Adam’s a good boy. We don’t stoop to the level of bad people.”

Being praised by Mommy made Adam practically wag his little invisible tail in glee. “I’ll listen to Mommy and ignore mean Daddy.”

His smile was soft and sugary sweet, so adorable that Skr zoned out for a moment, watching him quietly.

If that child back then had survived, they would’ve been about Adam’s age bnow/b. She had imagined countless times what her and Yosef’s child bwould/b. look like growing up. She’d even used one of those apps to simte it.

Strangely enough, the results did resemble Adam quite a bit.

Skr shook her head lightly, cursing herself internally. Just because the child called her “Mommy,” did she really start to believe she was his motherb? /bHer chest tightened with unease.

Yosef, sitting to the side, could only see her profile and had no way of knowing what expression she was wearing.

After a long pause, he finally decided to take the plunge. Maybe–just maybe–it would work, he told himself.

“Skr, I need to talk to you,” he spoke up.

Skr looked up calmly. “Mr. Campbell, do you really think we’re still on speaking terms?b” /b

“And for the record, I’m not part of the Stone family. My surname is Lambert. Please address me as Skr Lambert from now on.”

Yoseftched onto thest part. “Your surname is Lambert?” he asked.

Skr gave a lukewarm “Mm” in reply.

“Listen, I made mistakes in the past. I’m sorry,” said Yosef.

Skr froze. In her memory, Yosef was not the type to apologize. Even when it was clearly his fault, he’d always say something cold that made her bcry /b

instead.

This was the first time she’d heard him say sorry. Honestly, it was kind of… shocking.

Skr’s interest was piqued. “Alright. Then kneel and kowtow to me three times, and I’ll consider forgiving you.”

Yosef didn’t get angry. He simply said, “Skrb, /bthat’s too much.”

Skr gave a coldugh. “Too much? That’s riching from you.”

Compared to what he’d done before, what was this? She thought. He’d forced her–while pregnant–to donate blood to bElianna/b, and then there was the

issue with the cord blood…

Adam bclung /bbto /bbhis /bbmommy’s /bbarm /bbunder /bthe bcovers/bb, /bpeeking at the badults /bbvolleying /bback band /bbforth/b. His little head was spinning

bYoser’s /bbexpression /bdarkenedb. /bb“/bSkr, I really do have something serious bto /bdiscuss with byou/bb./bb” /b

b“/bWhat, and bI /bbdon’t/bb?/b” said Skr

b“/bI’ve already apologized. What more do you want?” Yosef snapped.

“If apologies solved everything, what would we need the police for?” Skr didn’t flinch.

bYosef /brubbed his temple, “Skr, you’re being unreasonable.”

“That’s right. I’m being totally unreasonable.”

Neither of them backed down, the tension crackling like static. Sensing ba /bfull–blown argument was on the horizon, Adam hurried bto y /bbpeacemaker/b.

“Daddy, Mommy, please don’t fight. Adam doesn’t want you to fight…”

Skr nced down at Adamb, /bthen said nothing more. Yosef met the boy’s worried eyes and pressed his lips together.
