Chapter 133: Chapter 133: The Overall Layout is Hard to Discern Chapter 133: Chapter 133: The Overall Layout is Hard to Discern But Sun Wukong and his companions set out to kill Guanyin at Mount Putuo, and Buddha Great Sun Tathagata felt a premonition in his heart.
Buddha Great Sun Tathagata summoned Zen Master Wuxin, a master of esoteric Buddhism, whose mana was equivalent to that of a top-notch Daluo Golden Immortal. Even more formidable was the Dharma Wheel in his hand. The origin of this Dharma Wheel was quite mystical, for it was born from a ten-thousand-year-old Square Cold Sword Spirit that had been struck by lightning, and an artifact spirit emerged from it. Zen Master Wuxin was very fortunate to acquire this Square Cold Sword Spirit and transform this material into a Dharma Wheel. Even patriarch-level figures would suffer a great loss if they were not careful when facing Zen Master Wuxin.
“Wuxin,” Buddha Great Sun Tathagata said.
“Disciple is here,” Zen Master Wuxin replied with his hands clasped together.
“I lent the Seven-Arrow Book with Fixed Tips to Guanyin to secretly attack Sun Wukong, but Sun Wukong did not die, and instead, Guanyin suffered the backlash. Though Tathagata used his methods to prolong her life, her fate is drawing to a close. This matter arose because of me, Buddha Great Sun Tathagata. Go to Spiritual Mount and inform Tathagata Buddha of this, and then immediately proceed to Mount Putuo to do your best to save her life,” Buddha Great Sun Tathagata sighed.
Guanyin’s fate was coming to an end, and it was her time to face calamity, but there are always those with tough fates who manage to survive. Buddha Great Sun Tathagata’s intervention was an attempt to reverse the decree of fate to see if Guanyin was meant to live on.
Zen Master Wuxin said, “Disciple obeys.”
Zen Master Wuxin then went to Spiritual Mount first. As an esoteric adept, he naturally met no resistance and directly ascended to Mahavira Hall on Spiritual Mount.
After dealing with the affair involving Di Jun, Tathagata was feeling heavy-hearted and asked, “What brings you here?”
“I’ve come to see Tathagata Buddha. Our Buddha has said that Guanyin’s life is nearly spent, and her life is in peril,” Zen Master Wuxin said.
After speaking, he added, “Your disciple takes his leave.”
Zen Master Wuxin did not wait for Tathagata’s response and left on his own, employing an Escape Skill as he headed toward Mount Putuo.
Tathagata meticulously calculated and then said, “Great Might Heavenly Dragon, Manjushri, Samantabhadra, detain Sun.”
Three Bodhisattvas and one Buddha stepped out from the crowd and said, “Your disciples are here.”
Although Detain Sun was a Buddha, he and Guanyin had once been disciples from the same sect, so it was fitting for him to go, and the Taoist Sect would have no grounds for objection.
Tathagata said, “You shall go to Mount Putuo to aid Guanyin through this tribulation.”
The four replied, “We will follow the Dharma’s command!”
Tathagata waved his hand and said, “Go.”
Hence, the four left Mahavira Hall and used the Escape Technique to head for Mount Putuo.
Tathagata’s brow furrowed slightly as he thought, “Should Guanyin die, it would be a great loss of face for the Buddhist Sect. Sending these individuals might still be inadequate.” He then said, “Five Great Ming Kings, you go as well!”
These Five Great Ming Kings were all patriarch-level figures, Primordial Golden Immortals, though they were not considered Buddhas and held positions on par with Bodhisattvas. However, the inhabitants of Western Heaven knew that these Five Great Ming Kings were avatars created by Tathagata and hence were held in high regard. Tathagata was being calculating here, taking advantage of loopholes in the Taoist Sect’s rules.
Feeling an uneasy premonition, Tathagata thought, “This matter seems far from simple. Guanyin might just be the fuse to a larger problem!”
Tathagata then said, “You may all leave.”
The assembly departed, and Tathagata said to Kasyapa, “Go invite Burning Lamp Buddha and Maitreya Buddha here, and also to Purple Cloud Mountain to invite Birupaksa Bodhisattva, and to the Glazed Realm to invite Glazed Light King Medicine Buddha Ancestor.”
After Ananda was killed by Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva with a single palm strike, Kasyapa was left with all the work, sharing no tasks with others.
Kasyapa accepted the instruction and hurried to invite the various Buddha Ancestors and Bodhisattvas.
Birupaksa was no ordinary Bodhisattva, for although nominally so, his abilities were indeed patriarch-level, and even Tathagata had to show him respect. The waters of the Buddhist Sect ran deep, and even Tathagata had to tread carefully. Birupaksa was the one who had aided Sun Wukong in vanquishing the Hundred-Eyed Demon Lord.
Knowing the gravity of the situation, Kasyapa dared not to delay and quickly summoned the Buddha Ancestors and Bodhisattvas.
“We wonder what matter has led the Buddha to summon us here?” Maitreya and Burning Lamp were the first to arrive.
They had both retreated to their own grounds to meditate after having a unsettling encounter with Hong Jun and Di Jun. Just as they had settled down, Kasyapa had come to call.
Tathagata said, “This is no small matter, someone intends to use Guanyin as a pretext for action.”
Maitreya exclaimed, “Oh?”
Guanyin’s fame within the Buddhist Sect was indeed not insignificant, and in the Mortal World, there were many temples dedicated to her where incense burned continuously. If Guanyin were to be killed, it would be a severe blow to the face of the Buddhist Sect, a heavy-handed slap that would undoubtedly leave them with a bruised and swollen face.
“Lord of Primordial Beginning is no simple matter…” Burning Lamp sighed.
Back when he was the Taoist Burning Lamp, he also studied under the Lord of Primordial Beginning and naturally felt lingering fear of his teacher’s tactics.
In the battle for the Investiture of the Gods, the Chan Taoist Sect was originally at a disadvantage, but as soon as the Lord of Primordial Beginning made a move, he immediately turned the tide, rallied the saints, and left Jie Taoist Sect with not a single piece of armor remaining.
A moment later, Birupaksa Bodhisattva entered.
“Birupaksa Bodhisattva,” greeted the three Tathagata figures.
“I greet the three Buddha Ancestors,” Birupaksa said with hands clasped together.
This Birupaksa Bodhisattva appeared to be in her mid-twenties, and also possessed a beautiful visage, emitting a queenly grace as if she embodied the spirit of motherhood over the world. Mortals would likely find it hard to take their eyes off her.
Outside the door, there was a flash of golden light as the Pharmacist Buddha of the Glazed Light King arrived.
The Pharmacist Buddha clasped his hands together and said, “Amitabha Buddha, this humble monk has arrived late, arrived late indeed.”
Tathagata smiled and said, “You are not late, Pharmacist Buddha, your timing is just right.”
The Pharmacist Buddha said, “I am glad if the Buddha Ancestor does not blame his disciple.”
Tathagata was a revered sovereign of the age, and aside from Burning Lamp Buddha and Maitreya Buddha, everyone else had to address him as a disciple.
Tathagata coughed lightly and said, “Now that the Deification Platform has been constructed and seven saints have signed the Investiture of the Gods, the time for some people to meet their fate has arrived. Guanyin’s destiny has come to an end, and someone wishes to kill her. Just now, a disciple of the Esoteric Buddha Great Sun Tathagata Zen Master Wuxin brought me a message. I have already dispatched Great Might Heavenly Dragon, Manjushri, Samantabhadra, Sun Wukong, as well as the Five Great Ming Kings to go.”
After hearing this, the Pharmacist Buddha could not help but shake his head.
Tathagata asked, “Why does the Pharmacist Buddha shake his head?”
The Pharmacist Buddha said, “I also feel that this matter is ominous, and I fear it is a scheme by the Lord of Primordial Beginning. Guanyin is just a fuse.”
In the past, Guanyin was known as Ci Hang Taoist, a fact known by everyone. The Lord of Primordial Beginning had long been displeased with these traitors, and now he seemed to be using the occasion of the Deification Platform to deal with them.
Indeed, what goes around comes around, the retribution is unerring, and there’s a poem that proves this, which goes, “In bygone years Ci Hang rebuked storm and cloud, but today Guanyin encounters trouble. Do not say that becoming a Buddha ensures the right fruit, for only upon the Deification Platform does one know sorrow.”
Tathagata also felt very uneasy, knowing that if he were not the supremely honored one in Western Heaven, just a Bodhisattva or a Buddha, Tong Tian Sect Master might have already made a move. After all, for a Saint to kill a Bodhisattva or Buddha, it might at most be a matter of ill repute, but if Tong Tian Sect Master employed certain methods, it would be done without heaven or ghost noticing.
The establishment of the Deification Platform had left these traitors with a profound sense of unease in their hearts.
Tathagata asked, “What should be done?”
Burning Lamp said, “Guanyin must be rescued; otherwise, our Buddhist Sect will lose all face!”
Tathagata said, “Should we consult Ancestor Amitabha Buddha and Maitreya Buddha?”
However, the Pharmacist Buddha said, “The past, present, and future three great Buddha Ancestors coming together, along with me and Birupaksa Bodhisattva, even if it’s a scheme by the Three Pure Ones, neither Ancestor Amitabha Buddha nor Maitreya Buddha will stand idly by, and neither will the Esoteric Buddhism Ancestor wait in doe nothing. Therefore, we may proceed!”
Burning Lamp had become extremely uneasy after losing twenty-three Sea-Calming Pearls, so restive that he didn’t know if the outcome of this mission would bring fortune or disaster. Part of him was unwilling to go, yet he feared losing face, and so, with a hardened façade, he nodded.
Tathagata nodded in agreement and said, “That is a suitable plan.”
As for what fortune or disaster may come, please listen to the next part for the resolution.
