Hell Game: Starting from the Metropolis
Chapter 20: Deliberately Careless
"What kind of extra work?"
Liu Zheng asked.
"You'll know when the time comes. And it might not even work out—it depends on your luck."
Niutou replied.
"Oh, right. The vest can't be given to you immediately."
He still needed it for delivering orders. Before leaving the dungeon, he would leave the vest in the resting room.
"That's fine, I'm not in a hurry to use it. Without a full set, it won't help me much."
Niuma said.
"So it's a full set?"
Liu Zheng was surprised.
Delago hadn’t told him about this.
"Exactly, it should be a vest, a hat, and a delivery box."
Niuma recalled.
A perfect-grade vest alone was already a top-tier item. If he could get the full set, it would at least be epic-grade, right?
Liu Zheng felt fascinated.
But he also knew it was just wishful thinking.
"By the way, who exactly is this legendary deliveryman? Is he from our restaurant?"
Liu Zheng was curious.
"Yes."
Niuma nodded.
"Have you met him before, boss?"
"Never. When I arrived, he was already gone."
Niuma shook his head.
"Did he resign or die?"
"How would I know? But he worked at the restaurant for thirty years. If he was going to die, it would’ve happened long ago."
Niuma said.
"Aren't you also planning to save up a decade or so of wages to buy scalper tickets?"
"You actually believe my bragging?"
Niuma rolled his eyes.
"Since coming back from Paradise Island, I have to find a way to escape. Continuing at the restaurant, I’d be lucky to live until my little calf is born."
Liu Zheng seemed to catch a trace of sorrow on Niuma’s big face.
"There’s no surveillance in the resting room, right?"
He looked around.
"Don’t know. Even if there is, it doesn’t matter—everyone says so."
Niuma was indifferent.
"Is the restaurant not good?"
"It’s not bad, just not easy."
Niuma shook his head.
"Alright, enough. No more orders today, let’s sleep."
He went to lie down on his straw mat, and soon his snoring filled the air.
Since Niuma said so, Liu Zheng relaxed as well and found a comfortable position in the corner to fall asleep.
When he woke up to the alarm, he still couldn’t believe it.
He had actually survived another day in this strange world.
Even more surprisingly, aside from a few minor ailments, he was doing alright.
"Could it be that I’m some kind of innate delivery saint?"
Liu Zheng amused himself with the thought.
"Quit joking, hurry up and eat breakfast. Work starts soon."
Niuma shouted.
"Oh."
He opened the cabinet, and sure enough, there was a staff meal waiting inside.
A bowl of miscellaneous noodles that looked unidentifiable, topped with a layer of small pink spheres that resembled apple snails’ eggs.
The quality was only common, and it only restored stamina.
"Boss, please go ahead."
Liu Zheng took the initiative to offer his meal box.
He knew this was the real reason Niuma reminded him.
"Not bad, kid."
Niuma lowered his head and slurped half of it in one gulp.
Especially those pink eggs—they were practically sucked clean.
"Fishman eggs have a nice bite to them."
Niuma praised.
He puffed his cheeks and chewed vigorously, the fishman eggs crackling crisply in his mouth.
"The rest is yours."
Niuma returned the meal box to Liu Zheng.
"Thanks, boss."
He took the box and calmly started eating.
Come to think of it, Niuma snatching food wasn’t entirely bad; he didn’t want to eat those disgusting eggs anyway.
After finishing the miscellaneous noodles, Liu Zheng picked up the drink bottle.
"Name: Essence of Red-Eyed Snake Mackerel"
"Type: Item"
"Quality: Excellent"
"Effect: Produces a thorough bowel movement, can cure some poisoning."
"Note: At first, he only thought it was a fart."
"Can it be taken out of the dungeon: Yes"
The semi-transparent plastic container was balloon-shaped, and the liquid inside gleamed with an oily shine.
"This is basically an enema, isn’t it?"
Liu Zheng was speechless.
Putting this in a staff meal—are they afraid no one would sneak off to the bathroom?
Oh, if they don’t allow bathroom breaks in the restaurant, then no problem.
He stuffed the plastic container into his pocket.
No way was he going to drink this; better to trade it with Delago.
After Niuma finished his own staff meal, the ghost hand came again to assign orders.
Still two orders, but this time Niuma didn’t let Liu Zheng choose. He just took one and left directly.
Liu Zheng went to the door and took the remaining one.
"Dish: A serving of Large Intestine Sashimi Platter"
"Address: Green Osmanthus Garden, Crazy City, Building 1, Unit 201."
"Time limit: Within one hour."
Why another order from Green Osmanthus Garden?
Liu Zheng frowned.
Though reluctant, once an order came, he had to deliver it.
He opened the cabinet and switched to the legendary vest, then stepped out of the resting room.
Opening the meal box on the delivery cart, a horrifying stench immediately filled his nostrils.
"This is way too smelly!"
Liu Zheng hurriedly covered his nose with a tentacle and looked inside the box.
There were over a dozen pieces of large intestines stacked neatly, each sausage looking thin-skinned and fully stuffed.
"Name: Large Intestine Sashimi Platter"
"Type: Item"
"Quality: Excellent"
"Effect: Restores stamina and heals injuries."
"Note: Life is uncertain; large intestines wrap small intestines."
"Can it be taken out of the dungeon: Yes"
First an enema, now large intestine sashimi—he and Old Eight really couldn’t get along today, huh?
Liu Zheng was about to close the box when he suddenly felt something was off.
He opened the item description and carefully read the note again.
Suppressing his nausea, he cautiously rummaged through the sausages.
After some searching, he finally found a special intestine.
It was thinner, longer, and inside had many fuzzy protrusions.
Clearly, this was a small intestine.
Liu Zheng had learned this during his hospital watch.
"So you were waiting for me here."
Liu Zheng smiled coldly.
He put the delivery order and meal box back on the cart, then returned to the resting room.
A few minutes later, the ghost hand pushed open the wooden board again.
"By the way, Niuma only said not to talk to the person preparing the meals, not that we can’t communicate."
Looking at the ghost hand slowly extending inside, Liu Zheng suddenly had an idea.
Thinking about how close he had been to delivering the wrong meal, that idea quickly turned into a burst of anger.
Bang!
He slammed a heavy fist against the door panel.
The ghost hand seemed startled, its five fingers curling sharply.
"Hahaha."
Seeing this, Liu Zheng laughed heartily.
The ghost hand put down the delivery order, gave him a straight middle finger, then withdrew from the resting room.
"You little thing, quite the temper." Thɪs chapter is updatᴇd by novel•fire.net
Liu Zheng smiled carefreely.
After waiting half a minute, he stepped out again. The delivery cart already had a new meal.
Just to be safe, he checked the food again.
This time, no problem—just large intestines, no damage or spoilage.
And the item description had a subtle change.
"Name: Large Intestine Sashimi Platter"
"Type: Item"
"Quality: Excellent"
"Effect: Restores stamina and heals injuries."
"Note: Was it intentional, or just careless?"
"Can it be taken out of the dungeon: Yes"
Holding the meal, Liu Zheng walked into the dark corridor.
