CHAPTER 239: VOICES FROM THE PAST

Zack sent them back to the buggy, and when there was a slight wind in the direction, Tim had to cover his nose and mouth to keep from getting sick.

"I understand what you mean, but I gotta get going—these two guys stink. They’re going to make me sick," Tim looked at his father.

Zack sent the boys on their way and wished them all luck.

Zack went back to the party that was going full force. Francis was looking around the diner and was about to walk outside when Zach stopped him. He pulled him to the side and gave a short explanation of what happened. Francis’s mouth fell open and he was overcome by joy. He ran to find Lester to let him know that they would soon be grandparents.

The next morning, Zack got up early as usual and made his way to the clinic. Devlin, who had been matched up with Declan, was waiting outside of the pod for Mr. Zach.

Zack asked if everything was okay. Devlin voiced his concerns about Declan—the breeding went off without a hitch. In fact, it was very easy. There were no surprises. In fact, there was no anything.

Devlin explained that Declan wasn’t pure. In fact, this wasn’t his first time.

Zack sensed something was wrong with the situation and decided to go in and speak to Declan by himself. He found Declan wearing a robe and bundled up in the sheets and blankets of the bed. Zack sat on the bed and asked Declan what was wrong.

Declan was looking at the bed and he started to speak. "The voice has returned—someone speaking to me and I don’t know who it is. I’ve heard these voices before, but I don’t know."

"The voice you hear—all genman that carry can hear it. It’s the voice of their unborn child singing praises to his dad," Zack patted Declan on the leg. "If you say you heard the voices before, that means that you carried in the past. I want Lex to see you so that you can have a comprehensive exam. This is something I wasn’t aware of because all enforcers are supposed to be untouched according to Lonnie."

Zack walked Declan and Devlin down to the exam room so that Lex could run a comprehensive exam.

Lex was finished with all of his results and let Declan remain laying on the gurney. He looked at his grandfather. "Sir, he’s carried before. It’s been years, but he’s had one carry. There was a lot of scarring, so it must’ve been a rough delivery. It’s not uncommon for humans or even genman to block out memories that are painful, and this must be."

Declan started to sob. "They took him—they took him away from me. First, they let him hurt me, and they took my baby that he put inside." All the memory started to come back like an avalanche. Declan recounted the day of his transition and that two large genman held him down as another—he called the mean one—got on top and took him. He remembered that he was huge and the baby was sad. He had a couple of pains and the next thing when he woke up, he was in a white room and the child was gone. It was no longer talking to him. Within hours he was sent to the retraining camp, then he was assigned to the enforcers.

"What did they do with him? Do you think he’s in the program like the others?" Declan looked at Zack.

Zack helped Declan as much as he could and assured him that the GBI would be on top of it. If he did have the child when he first transitioned, he was probably 20 years of age, and that would make the child about 7 human years, which calculated out to 24 genman years. He could pass right by his own child and never know him, but Lex had taken blood and DNA samples since he was now carrying again, and he would feed him into the system to see if anything showed up as far as his son ever being at the Z1 for a breeding.

The blood samples were in the system three minutes when there was a hit. In fact, there were multiple hits. There was a direct offspring and 2 indirect offspring. Lex had to show these to his grandfather in the most secure area away from everyone.

Lex had his grandfather meet him in the conference room and had everyone’s file.

Zack was almost gutted when he saw the results. Just how long have these corporate bastards been up to what they were doing? How many lives had they ruined and families had they been tearing apart? The longer he looked at the files, the madder he got. Lex reminded his grandfather to watch his temper and his blood pressure.

"I need to make a home visit. This is going to be hard. I can’t imagine finding out that I had a dad who was brutally bred in the same system that took my children—that this is nothing new, it’s been going on for generations."

Lex reminded his grandfather that the genman that he was dealing with was tough, had been through hardships and come through with flying colors. Even though he was getting ready to deliver, he could handle it.

Zach left the clinic and notified Madison that he would need a ride to an undisclosed location that he wished not to place on the radio.

Madison drove Mr. Zack to the cottages and pulled up in front of one of the familiar ones. Zack stepped out of the speeder and walked up to the door with a bundle of files and knocked on it. The door opened, and the resident who was there welcomed him inside.

Zack had all three sit down at the table and he laid the files down. He looked directly into the young man’s eyes. "I have found your dad. He’s okay, but he has no idea who you are, let alone where you are. Until a recent mental breakthrough, he didn’t even remember you because you were taken from him when he was knocked out at delivery. Your father was also in the breeding program, and it wasn’t a welcome breeding. Now your father has freshly conceived a new child, which will be hybrid. I can give you the basics, or you can read them."

The young man sat at the table with tears streaming down his cheeks, being held by his mate who was worried about the child that they were about to have. "No sir, Mr. Zack. I want you to tell me everything that you know. I don’t want to read it. I trust you and I want to hear it from you."

"Your father’s name is unknown, but your dad’s name is Declan. He was bred during his transition. He said he was held down by two large genman and the other genman took him. He was placed in a sterile environment—aka the white rooms, or what everyone called them. You grew. He said he went to sleep and woke up—he didn’t have any nectar and you were gone. You did speak to him. You were fearful, but you spoke to him. He was placed in a retraining program then reassigned to the enforcers, which carry out the corporation’s rules and regulations enforcement. Until his hormone level was restored when he conceived, his memories were locked away. He doesn’t know anything about you, but he is concerned that you be found. What you decide to do is up to you, Donnie. But right now, I’m going to leave the files with you and everyone here can read over them."

Donnie thanked Mr. Zack for everything that he had done and how he had done it.
