Her Smile His Sentence
Chapter 32: A Perfect Crime
CHAPTER 32: A PERFECT CRIME
During the second trial, Caelum sat in the corner of the room watching as Selene casually spoke to the people in the courtroom through the camera and laptop in front of her.
There were several pieces of evidence found that seemed to make no sense to be there. But Selene did use them to eliminate her victims.
"The most dubious piece of evidence was this stone grinder. This one was almost missed by us because there were some fingerprints that weren’t hers."
At first, they were all confused as to how such a heavy stone could be brought into the courtroom and said to be evidence of Selene’s crimes.
Then, the forensic team explained that it was used to crush the brittle bones that had been burned after 7 hours.
Everyone was shocked, not expecting that the bones were even crushed to powder using a stone grinder.
"We almost missed this because not only were some fragments of human bones found. But there were nuts and other things mixed in the pores of the stone," they explained.
The witnesses and everyone else in the courtroom were disgusted. They wondered, did Selene use the object to grind nuts into flour and eat them?
Doesn’t that mean the flour has been mixed with human bone fragments?
Even her lawyer was at a loss as to how to defend her client.
"Is it true, you used a stone grinder to pulverize the bones of your victims into a powder?"
Just like before, Selene did not deny it and admitted it.
"That’s right, I used the two stones to pulverize the bones so that I could spread them on all my flowers in my backyard," she replied, still smiling.
Her statement incriminated her. They did not expect Selene to go that far.
"So you admit that you also used that thing to refine the beans and cover up the traces of your crimes to mix with the natural ingredients?"
The woman shook her head. "No, I did use kitchen tools to eliminate all the evidence. But for that one, I lent it to my neighbor."
"Lend it to your neighbor?"
One of the police finally provided an eyewitness report from one of Selene’s neighbors. She had borrowed the stone grinder and used it to grind nuts into flour.
"You let others touch the items you used for your crimes?"
Selene nodded her head this time. "Yes, because I am a kind-hearted neighbor and very happy to help other neighbors if they are in need. As long as they don’t know that I’m using it to crush human bones."
Some people felt nauseous when they heard that, let alone imagining that their food they were eating had human bones in it.
The trial was delayed for 15 minutes to allow people to take a break and catch their breath. They thought it was just another trial showing some evidence, but the explanation was far more gruesome.
It was like she crushed the flesh of her victims into small pieces and threw them into the forest for wild animals to eat, let alone scattering their bone powder in her garden.
"As long as their bones are still useful, why not? A rotten thing they once did has now grown into a beautiful flower in my flower garden," she said.
After all the evidence was presented and many shocking statements in the trial, the second trial was finally over.
Some of them admitted that Selene was a pretty neat woman to get rid of the evidence. Although she did send the heads of her victims to their families, there were very few fingerprints on them.
Luckily, there were several eyewitnesses who saw Selene carrying a large box in the middle of the night.
Once the trial was over, the cameras were switched off. Caelum stood up from his seat and asked the two guards to leave them alone.
"I will escort her back to her cell myself, you can return to your duties."
"Yes, sir!"
Once it was just the two of them, Selene turned her head and smiled at the man nearby.
"How was it? Did you like my testimony on this incident?" she asked casually.
"It turns out that your crimes are far more serious than they seem," he said dryly.
She chuckled as soon as she heard that. "Surely you knew that. And are you sure of what you said a few days ago?"
The woman stood up from her seat and looked at Caelum. "You simply said that one day you would make sure I got out of this prison and even have your child."
She said that she doubted she would ever get out, perhaps even if she did, it would only be a lifeless body. Which meant she was dead because of the death sentence given to her.
Thinking he would take back his words from a few days ago, he said something that surprised her.
"Do you doubt me?" Caelum asked her. "If I say so, it will remain the same. I will not change my decision."
Selene really didn’t understand how Caelum could be so confident in saying that he could get Selene out of prison.
It was clear that Selene would be sentenced to death afterwards. But Caelum’s words seemed to give her hope of getting out of there and actually living with him.
"Don’t give me hope if you don’t know what you’re going to do after this." She smiled as she approached his face.
She tried to look into his eyes, looking for a reason why he really meant what he said.
She had never been able to read his mind, he was too complex and very good at masking his emotions.
Without saying anything, Caelum suddenly grabbed her around the waist and lifted her onto the table. Selene was now sitting on the table, with her face almost level with his.
His arms locked at her right and left sides, bringing their faces closer together.
"Do you see the doubt in my eyes right now?" he asked seriously.
"No, I do not. I don’t," Selene replied as if she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
Caelum silently looked at her, as if he knew what she was thinking. Slowly their faces drew closer, and he whispered before finally kissing her.
"If you can’t trust me with my words. Then trust me with my body."
A grin appeared on her face as she returned Caelum’s deep, passionate kiss.
’If you’re that sure, then I’ll give you all of me.’
