Her Smile His Sentence
Chapter 42: Isolation Room For Her
CHAPTER 42: ISOLATION ROOM FOR HER
While outside they demanded that Selene be released, inside the prison the other prisoners asked Caelum to be fair and put Selene in isolation.
They felt that Selene had been causing a lot of trouble and getting into fights. Especially the last fight with Big Mama, which had such a big impact that she almost went blind. The detergent that hit her eyes really irritated and reddened her eyes and even burned whenever she opened them.
"You have to be fair! Just because that woman is your woman, she can do as she pleases!" said one of the prisoners who was agreed by the other prisoners as they protested in front of the Chief Warden.
Because there were not just 5 to 10 of them but more than that, Caelum listened to them. Moreover, it was Selene who finally said that she had no problem with being put in isolation.
"Alright, if that’s what you want with me going into isolation. I’ll do it!" the woman said in front of them all.
However, she had given them a warning before she would be taken to the isolation room later.
"I will go to the isolation room of my own free will as well as yours. However, there is one thing I want to emphasize before going to the isolation room for a few days," she said.
She turned to Hannah, who was standing nearby with her face still covered in bruises. Hannah gave her a worried look, as if she didn’t want Selene to be tormented in a room like that because of her.
"I assure you, if you dare to touch Hannah, you will have to deal with me," Selene said firmly.
"If I see even one new wound on her face or body, as long as I’m in that isolation room. I will not hesitate to do much worse to you."
That last sentence of hers was enough to make the prisoners fall silent, as if they were facing someone so terrifying, giving them a stern warning.
In the end, she was taken by the other wardens to the isolation room.
They finally brought Selene to the basement, where the isolation room was located. Just going down the hallway, she could already feel the cold and dampness of the place.
There were only a few lights in the hallway, but she did not find any inside the room.
"Why did you agree to enter the isolation room? Even without you surrendering, I’m sure Chief Rothwell wouldn’t allow you to be in a place like this," said the warden who took her.
"I know that. It’s just that I don’t want a big commotion to happen just because that man keeps siding with me. He has a reputation to maintain," she replied.
The warden was surprised to hear Selene’s response, as he had not expected her to think about Caelum’s reputation. He thought she only cared about his power in the prison, especially since she always got something special from the chief.
"This is your isolation room," the warden said as he opened the door to the isolation room.
Inside Selene could see an empty room, with nothing like a table, bed or toilet. She had to restrain herself until another warden came to bring her food or check on her.
The room was indeed unfit for habitation, which is why it was called isolation.
"That’s why don’t make trouble in this prison if you don’t want to end up in this room," he said.
"This is indeed effective to discipline them. Although there are still many who make trouble," she said.
Once Selene was finally left alone, she sat in a corner of the room leaning against the wall. She didn’t feel pressured by the room, even though it seemed quite dark.
"This place is not much different from that room in that hell. It’s just that there’s no thin mattress on the cold floor. But what’s the difference?" she muttered then she lay down on the floor using her arms as pillows.
She stared at the empty and dark sky of the room, as if lost in her own thoughts. Reminiscent of a miserable childhood.
If only when she was a child, she had never once been hated and treated well by her parents. Would none of this have happened?
Trapped in a high-security special prison. Far away from the mainland and the normal life she had expected.
"But... Is he serious about the petition? He and so many people want me to be free. Are they really not afraid of me?"
Images of Caelum’s face appeared in her mind. He had never felt love and care from anyone before. Even the men who had been his lovers, what Caelum gave them was very different.
They were full of sweet words that didn’t materialize and they were just empty words.
"But Caelum... He never said anything, he never said he loved me or that I was his lover. It’s just that from how he treated me..."
Her eyes dropped. She hated this kind of atmosphere. Dark and cold, it always made her look weak and vulnerable. It was as if the darkness showed her fragile side that she always tried to hide from everyone.
She even remembered crying in Caelum’s arms a few days ago. It was the most embarrassing thing for her.
Selene had never shown that side of her to anyone. Never once in her life had she thought to do so, to talk about her past that she hated so much.
However, when his hands curled around her waist and back, Selene seemed to weaken in his hands. It was like all her burdens had slipped away from her for a moment while in his big, strong hands.
She felt like the world stopped for a moment when that happened. So safe and cozy, with his soft, calm whisper.
"It’s okay, you are safe now."
Selene couldn’t forget those words coming from his lips to her ear.
She wondered if this was real or if she was in a dream that made her feel a feeling she had never had before and she didn’t want to lose it.
Her eyes closed, she let out a slow breath that felt very cold with the image of Caelum’s face still spinning in her head.
"If feeling warm feelings with him is a dream. Don’t ever wake me up."
