CHAPTER 46: AM I STARTING TO REGRET IT?

When morning came, Selene woke up and she felt his warm body still hugging her. She opened her eyes to see Caelum still in front of her, still fast asleep.

She had seen this scene many times before, especially after they had made love several times a week. However, it was still something that Selene found very beautiful.

Waking up next to someone she cared about so much, and seeing his face for the first time after everything that happened last night.

Sometimes she wondered, if she had never been in prison, would this be the sight she would always see of someone she loved?

However, how could she wake up next to the person she loved, if she didn’t end up in prison because the person she loved was a Chief Warden.

Sometimes there were regrets in her life, she couldn’t get her normal life back after entering the prison. And what she was seeing right now, was just a small punishment where the world was slapping her. Everything she felt now would only be temporary. Before she will finally get her harshest punishment.

The death penalty.

’Why do you keep giving me hope that I’ll live longer? Even though you said I would definitely only get life imprisonment, I’m not sure the law would let someone like me live. Even if it does... There’s no way we can go on like this forever,’ she thought as she reached for Caelum’s face.

She gently touched his cheek, rubbing it with her thumb as she looked up into his face. She was the one who was going to get life imprisonment, but she didn’t want Caelum to have to spend the rest of his life in prison just to be with her.

"Even if it’s life imprisonment that I’m going to get asked, that doesn’t mean you’re going to be here with me forever, does it?" she muttered under her breath.

She sighed, feeling so fragile in front of him to have to think of all these things. Whereas when she first entered Redboiler Prison, she never thought of continuing her life because she knew she would end up in that prison alone.

She never felt regret, fear or anything else because she was afraid of what she had done.

However, after she found a light inside the prison. A light that was much darker but brought warmth, making her feel regret for what she had done.

Moreover, he gave her a reason to stay alive, making her want to get out of prison and live a normal life together with him.

However, the world kept slapping her with the reality that she would never get out of there no matter how hard Caelum tried to petition or attract the attention of Zondalians and foreigners to get her out of prison.

As she was stroking his cheek, her hand was caught by Caelum’s and nuzzled into her palm.

"How are you feeling? Are you feeling much better now?" the man asked in a slightly hoarse but heavy voice.

"Yes, I feel much better. But now my stomach feels so empty. Now it’s your turn to take responsibility," Selene said with a mischievous smile.

"Do you want to eat something? I’ll make something for you," he said and sat down.

Selene could see that the man in front of her was still not wearing any clothes and the sight of his beautiful body fascinated her.

"Looks like you just gave me breakfast with such a beautiful sight in front of me right now," Selene teased as she gazed at his body.

The man turned his head towards her, then got back on top of her and brought their faces closer together. "Do you want to look at it longer?"

Their bodies touched, and it felt so warm when their skin pressed against each other. The warm feeling, as well as the memory of what they did last night, replayed in their respective brains

Her hand touched his neck and then slided down his chest and abdominal muscles. "The view above me is tempting enough, but it can’t fill my stomach."

"I knew that word would come out of your mouth," Caelum said and kissed her.

Selene returned the morning kiss so deeply, he pulled away and gently brushed her lower lip with his thumb.

"I’ll make you some warm soup and porridge. I think I over myself on you last night when you were sick, and your face looks so pale now," he said.

Caelum got out of bed and put on his pants. He said he would prepare a bathtub filled with warm water for Selene to soak in. Hearing that, her heart warmed too. But she still had time to tease him.

"Will I bathe alone or will you come with me?" she asked in a teasing tone.

Brushing his hair back, he turned his head and looked at her with a sly grin on his face that was rarely seen.

"If you want to invite me to join you, I’m not sure if the water will stay warm until we’re done bathing. In fact, I think it’ll take more than two hours until we’re done," he said in reply to her teasing.

When someone who rarely teases others, it feels different once heard. And hearing him tease back, Selene’s face reddened slightly as she knew what Caelum meant.

Of course, he didn’t mean a real ’bath’.

Seeing Caelum go into the kitchen, Selene got out of bed wearing only the thin blanket that was on the man’s bed. She walked after him to the small kitchen in the room and saw him cooking.

She touched her own chest, feeling the sight of a normal person watching her partner making food for her.

’This is what it’s like to have someone who cares so much about you, even making breakfast for me to get well,’ she thought as she felt her heart racing.

The brown-haired woman then walked into the kitchen, looking at his back that was so wide and muscular. She didn’t know why she felt like leaning against him, like releasing all the burdens she had for now.

She knew this happiness would not last long, but at least she would enjoy the remaining time she had with him.

Selene leaned against Caelum’s back and hugged him from behind.

"Selene?" He called her name as he felt her arms wrap around his waist from behind.

Her heart seemed to swell every time she heard him say her name. His heavy, distinctive voice made her not want to stop hearing it.

"Sorry, just for a moment. I’m not going to quietly kill you from behind," she said trying to cover up her current feelings coupled with the sound of her chuckle.

Caelum fell silent as soon as he heard that. He released Selene’s arms from around his waist, turned his body towards her and pulled her into his arms.

His lips next to her ear whispered something Selene never thought she would hear.

"Don’t be afraid, Selene. I won’t let anyone hurt you again. I won’t let anyone else touch my woman. I love you, remember that."
