CHAPTER 47: DESIRE TO LIVE LONGER

Two days after Selene had been in Caelum’s room, she finally returned to her own cell. The other prisoners watched her as she walked into Block E. They seemed to know what she had done.

They seemed to know what she had done. However, they couldn’t do anything about it because she was the woman in charge of the prison.

But not only that, no other prisoner could defeat her if they try to complaining about it.

As soon as she returned, Hannah ran straight to her and hugged her with a feeling of joy mixed with worry. "Selene you’re finally back, I was so worried about you! Are you okay?"

"I’m fine, I was only sick for two days but I’m better now." Selene hugged Hannah while rubbing her back.

Suddenly, one of the prisoners clapped his hands when he saw the two of them hugging. "How cute you two are after not seeing each other for almost a week."

He spoke in a mocking tone, as if he was unhappy with Selene’s return to Block E. Especially knowing the fact that she had ’disappeared’ from the isolation room on the third night.

Although they were not told where she went. They could already guess where she had been for the past two days. And that, of course, made them even more upset that Selene was once again getting ’privileges’ from the Chief Warden.

"You think we don’t know where you’ve been? You easily led us to believe that you went to the isolation room. But in reality you were on Chief Rothwell’s bed," he said.

The other prisoners nodded, saying that it still felt unfair to them.

"Indeed, but I was in isolation room for four days and three nights without coming out at all. Until Chief Rothwell came to pick me up. Doesn’t that mean I’ve served my sentence like most prisoners. Three days and three nights?" asked Selene.

"That’s still not enough for someone like you! You should have served longer. Even Reina was sentenced to five days in isolation room."

They counted the number of mistakes Selene had made. Starting from her fight with one of the prisoners in Block F, her fight with Dargon’s men, for which they received 3 days of isolation, her fight with Reina who should have received 5 days of punishment, plus her last fight with Big Mama.

And in total, Selene had to spend 15 days or more in isolation. Hearing that, she could only roll her eyes with annoyance, because they seemed to be dissatisfied with what she had gotten.

"I don’t mind if there isn’t any extreme weather on the island right now. I’m sure you’ve felt the cold wind every day these past few days. Even when you’re out in the field, the cold wind is piercing. Then what about me down there?"

She walked closer to him, with a sharp gaze. But her smiling face made the man before her feel intimidated by her words.

"That’s not my problem! I don’t care if you freeze to death down there!" the man replied.

"Exactly. Since you don’t care, I won’t care if I have to get out of there faster than you want me to. That’s not my problem," she said with her usual sly smile.

She turned to Hannah, then invited her cellmate to go back inside. The brown-haired woman could only sigh, facing those who were not happy with her returning to the cell room in good condition.

"Though I did get hypothermia from being in the isolation room in this cold windy weather," she muttered as she sat on the edge of her bed.

"You got hyportermia? Are you okay? It must be really painful..." Hannah looked even more worried, but Selene assured her that she was fine.

"Caelum took care of me when I was sick yesterday. If he hadn’t come, I would have died," she said.

Hannah looked amazed when she heard it. "Wow, Chief Rothwell really loves you, doesn’t he? He came to take you along with him."

"You think so?"

The short-haired woman immediately nodded her head. "Of course! If he didn’t really love you, he would’ve just taken you to the medical room and let another warden take care of you. But instead he took you to his room and took care of you all by himself."

What Hannah said had some truth to it, if Caelum really didn’t care or love her. He would have put her in the infirmary without a care in the world.

Or not come to the isolation room at all.

She remembered Caelum whispering that he loved her. This was something big, something Selene had never heard before from anyone.

Although many men had confessed their love to Selene, it felt different when Caelum said it.

"Thankfully, I had thought that Chief Rothwell only saw you as his toy. But I’m glad that he really cares about you," said a relieved Hannah.

She said that at first she thought Caelum was just using Selene’s body and the gifts he gave her were just for pay. She knew that Selene loved him.

"What, how could you think I loved that man?" Selene asked with a laugh.

However, Hannah smiled and told her what had happened a few days ago before she was beaten by Big Mama.

"You had a fever, right? Then I was the one who waited for you in the medical room when you had a fever. In between your sleep, you kept calling his name. You would call out his name when your fever was high. You said ’I’m scared. Save me Caelum’," she explains.

Selene clearly remembers that she did have a fever. But she didn’t know that Hannah had taken care of her in the beginning.

Because when she opened her eyes, it was Caelum who was in front of her. It was Hannah who had called out to him, telling him what had happened.

"When you were most vulnerable, you looked for her. Without realizing it, your innermost self loved him!" the girl said innocently.

Subconsciously her heart only wanted Caelum, so when she felt hurt he was the one she sought. Because he managed to touch something inside Selene, creating a sense of security and comfort around him.

Her eyes dropped, making him feel like she shouldn’t be feeling this way. If she was really in love... Then she wanted to stay alive.

Stay alive so that she could continue to be with him and feel this feeling for longer.
