CHAPTER 51: IMPORTANT MEETING WITH THE PRIME MINISTER

In the Zondalian defense center, Caelum walked down the hallway to a room belonging to the Zondalian Prime Minister of Defense. He had come to answer the Prime Minister’s call on a report he had received.

Knock knock

There was a knock on the door, making Caelum wait a moment for the Prime Minister to let him in. As he walked into the room and closed the door behind him, a man in military garb sat behind his desk.

"Good morning, Sir Stevan. I’ve come to answer your call, so what is it you’re asking me to return to the mainland for?" Caelum asked with a serious face.

The man with the Stevan clan stood up from his seat and walked over to Caelum.

"First of all, I’d like to know how you’re doing. How have you been on that desert island? The last time I heard you returned to the mainland was last year. It’s been 7 months since you were last in Zondalian," he said.

"I’m doing fine. Plus I’m always in Zondalian because Markward Island is still part of Zondalian," he replied.

Stevan sighed, hearing the man’s stiff and flat response. "You’ve always been like that since you were a kid. Don’t be so stiff with me, I’m still your uncle."

However, Caelum replied that they were not uncle and nephew situation but a minister and his subordinate.

So he had to keep respecting him, appreciating him as a minister. Stevan just felt that his nephew was too outwardly withdrawn, which made people sometimes feel that he didn’t like anyone.

"As your uncle, I can also feel worried. Especially after the passing of your parents who had left you and Cyrus to me. Asked me to take good care of you two," Stevan replied.

"Thank you for your concern, but I’m fine. Can’t we just get straight to the point?" asked Caelum.

He was anxious for everything to be over and for him to return to Redboiler Prison to meet with Selene. Although he had only been gone for two days, it felt so empty without her around.

He used to always watch Selene from the CCTV room, when she was in the canteen or in the field. Or maybe call her to come to his office or his room.

"Alright, then have a seat."

Stevan invited Caelum to sit on the sofa, while he sat opposite. He told Caelum of his intention to call him to talk about the Siren of Justice. As Caelum suspected, his uncle must have called for that purpose.

The Prime Minister of Defense explained about the news about the Siren of Justice and the forum that appeared talking about the truth where she should be released.

Why does this case bother the Prime Minister of Defense, because Zondalians are divided into two camps that could threaten the security of the country.

"Many demonstrators began to appear, defending the release of the criminal. Moreover, the forum that talks about the issue, is enough to make people support what she has done."

The Prime Minister actually felt that what Siren of Justice was doing was a good thing. It was just that the way was so wrong by eliminating those people.

He felt that if she had not killed the people but captured and handed over the evidence to the police or authorities, he would have supported this.

However, he regretted that what Selene did was completely wrong.

"And I’m calling you to ask you. That criminal woman must be in your prison right now. She has been sent there since January, and I’m sure she has already begun to adapt to the prison."

Caelum remained silent, nodding in response to her words.

"I just wanted to know your point of view and your own opinion on this matter. Especially since I’m sure you’ve known or noticed what that criminal is like in prison," Stevan said, continuing his previous sentence.

Now Caelum had to think of an answer to give, so as not to sound like he was in the camp of Selene’s release. Because it was clear that he was the one who had started the fuss about Selene’s release.

"To be honest, I’d love to see that woman in person. But I’m too busy with some of my work, so I can’t leave the mainland to see her." Stevan admitted that he was interested in the case, but he himself could not go see Selene in person.

That’s why he called his nephew, who worked as the chief warden at the prison.

"If you’re asking about my opinion, to be honest, that woman is quite calm in prison. Although she didn’t seem to regret her actions during the previous trial. But in person, it was clear that she regretted it," Caelum explained.

He also said that Selene is quite cooperative in some ways, although she does get quite angry when her peace is disturbed.

"The rest of the time she was just a normal woman. She’s not one to cause trouble, nor does she look for trouble with other prisoners."

Stevan nodded in understanding, he thought that a criminal who was too calm was the most professional. Because then she can control her emotions, and the calmness or silence of a criminal is actually observing her surroundings.

"I see. That attitude must be enough to attract you, right?" the man said in a teasing tone and laughed softly just to tease his nephew.

Caelum didn’t respond to the joke at all, because it wasn’t a joke to him but the truth.

The attraction that arises in that woman with a calm and observative nature. Moreover, she was able to play with his feelings, something that people could rarely touch in themselves.

"I was just joking, you don’t need to take my words seriously. I’m sure you have your own criteria and the woman you choose must be honorable and free from evil."

"Yes, sir." Caelum said quietly, as if his words and heart were at odds.

They were silent for a moment before the Prime Minister of Defense asked another question that was enough to make Caelum shudder to say anything.

However, he had already prepared himself to limit himself. Because he already knew what would be asked of him this time.

"Then with all the things you noticed from her and told me. Do you think that woman deserves to be released or not?"
