CHAPTER 57: UNTIL DEATH DO US APART

A few days after Caelum’s return, he received reports that Dorothy and Veronica had been examined but found no evidence of anything but trauma.

Caelum himself tried to deny that anyone in his prison was involved in this. Even though he knew it was happening, he tried to cover it up. Moreover, there was no evidence of it.

"They are now undergoing treatment at a mental hospital on the mainland. I know this is one of your actions, so you’d better not repeat it," Caelum said as he folded his arms in front of his chest while looking at Selene who did not look guilty at all.

"I was just playing around a bit. A little surprise won’t hurt anyone, right? Especially after what they did to me and the other prisoners," Selene replied.

He knew that she didn’t really care about the other prisoners, even if they would be tortured to death. Except for Hannah, of course. That’s why it sounded so ridiculous when Selene said she did it for all the prisoners.

"As long as they don’t find any evidence, I guess it doesn’t matter, right? I mean... come on, let’s forget it. What matters now..."

She walked over to him slowly and stroked his cheek gently. "All is safe without anyone being able to prove what happened."

He caught her hand quickly and kissed the back of her hand.

"Even if they find something, I will cover it up for you. Even if I need to lay all the blame on the other prisoners," he said looking at her with a gaze full of seriousness, still kissing the back of the hand of the woman he adored.

"I know you will, my dear." Selene kissed his forehead and hugged him. "I know you will."

"If you are the Goddess of Destruction as they say, then I am one of your loyal followers. I will worship and protect my goddess," Caelum said as he returned her hug and played with her hair.

"They must go through pain before they can touch the destruction."

Selene in his arms felt so calm. She felt loved and something called happiness. Something she had never felt before.

And she did not want to lose this warm and wonderful feeling. However, would the world let her keep feeling all this love after what she did?

Did she deserve to live after what she had done?

"Caelum," she called softly.

"Yes, sweetheart?" he replied, still gently rubbing her head.

"If one day I die from my death sentence. Would you bury me near the sea? Or perhaps throw my ashes there?"

Hearing that, his hands instantly stopped moving. Reflexively he caught both her shoulders and pushed her slightly away from him.

The look in his eyes held a great deal of pain and annoyance that he held back from saying.

"Don’t say that. I won’t let you die, you’ll either be imprisoned forever or get out of here to live with me!" he said firmly.

"But Caelum, you know I..."

"Shut up! I’m not taking a ’but’ from you. I will not lose you, not again." His grip on her shoulder tightened, as if he didn’t want to let go at all.

Afraid that if he did, she would disappear from her.

She knew he would say something like that. Yet no one could fight fate. Selene knew her destiny was death. To die in prison for the crimes she had committed.

But Caelum kept rejecting it and saying things would change. He would change that terrible destiny. He was sure he could fight that fate.

"If fate takes you from me, then I will take you back. No one can take you away from me, even if it is fate itself. Do you understand?"

Selene could only nod her head. Seeing her understand his words, Caelum suddenly bit her neck quite hard. Leaving clear bite and kiss marks on her clean neck.

"You are my woman. I don’t let go of what is mine. You are the one I want and only you want me."

She touched her neck which was sore from the bite.

’His common sense had been clouded by madness, anger and pain. He has fallen too far into our feelings, just like me. At this rate... it’s going to hurt when that day comes,’ Selene thought as she looked into Caelum’s eyes.

"There are many women who want you. You just need to open yourself up to them like you did to me. But... the thought of you being with them even when I’m dead makes me feel sad..." she said.

"Then stay alive and show them that I belong to you. If you are free, I will show everyone that you are my woman. I’ll show it with pride," Caelum said with seriousness.

"Ahahaha... Well, I’ll show you that this cold, annoying man is my man. My new world and my new hope. Don’t let go of my hand and go alone, promise?"

The man paused to look at Selene who extended her little finger to him. A small, mocking smile appeared on his face. "You think I’m your kindergarten student, that you would make such a pinky promise?"

"Don’t underestimate the pinky promise, you know? So are you going to accept it or not?"

He took off his gloves and wrapped his little finger around hers and kissed her lips.

"I promise with all my body and soul. If I step out of this prison, then I will take you with me. If you are here forever, then I will also be with you even until death do us part."

Once their kiss broke, Selene chuckled at Caelum’s words.

"You say that like you’re taking wedding vows. ’Till death do us part’. It feels good to hear that," she said with a chuckle.

"If you want me to say those vows for real, I won’t mind. I’ll show you how serious I feel about you."

She immediately fell silent staring at him with a look of confusion. Was he really going to do it?

"My name is Caelum Rothwell. I am willing to take Selene Blackwell as my wife. In sickness and in health, in good times and bad, in life and in death. I swear to love her until death do us part," he said firmly.

Her blue eyes widened in shock. She hadn’t expected him to actually make that promise. Her heart was beating very fast, even though she knew it was just an ordinary promise and not a real marriage. But her heart seemed to belong to him completely.

"Will you accept it, Selene Blackwell?"

Again in front of him, Selene shed tears. She felt happiness but also pain. Pain because she knew none of this would ever come to her.

He touched her cheeks and gently wiped away the tears as he cupped her cheeks in her hands.

Selene took Caelum’s hands in hers and nodded her head.

"I do. My name is Selene Blackwell. I am willing married to Caelum Rothwell. In sickness and in health, in good times and bad, in life and in death. I swear to love him until death do us part," she said in a trembling voice.

A faint smile was painted on her face. "It’s time to kiss my bride."

He brought their faces closer together and kissed her deeply and lovingly. It felt so sweet and real, even though it was just a little game between them.

But the feeling of belonging to each other was so real and undeniable.

"I love you."
