Her Smile His Sentence
Chapter 61: Jealousy Warning
CHAPTER 61: JEALOUSY WARNING
Finished with their dinner, they still had a little time before the guards ordered them to return to their respective cell rooms.
At that moment, Damien seemed to be trying to approach the two girls in front of him at the moment, finding out about the two of them.
"So what brings you to this prison?" he asked the two of them.
Hannah pointed at herself and answered. "I’m for embezzlement."
"Embezzlement? How much money did you embezzle to end up in a place like this?"
She told the total money mentioned in the trial. But he explained that she was actually set up to be in this prison by her superiors at the company, as she had never done any of that.
Selene confirmed this, adding that Hannah’s family had been deliberately dismantled by the elite to cover this up and use the land as a scapegoat to get into prison.
"So they’ve covered up all the evidence to keep you trapped here?" Damien asked again.
"I guess so. There’s no hope of me getting out of here," she replied.
He nodded in understanding, and felt that it was only fitting that Hannah looked so innocent and unsuitable for prison. Because she didn’t look like someone who had committed such a crime. And that is also what he hates the most, when people use their power to bring down those under them.
He admitted that during his time as a mafia boss, he had indeed done so. But he never made the people around him a scapegoat.
"There must be a clear reason why I did that to that person and not accuse someone who is so innocent, not even doing anything wrong to get punished like this," he said.
Selene agrees with that. "It is precisely people like them who should be stuck in a place like this, rather than people who are completely innocent but have to accept suffering."
His gaze then shifted to Selene, and he asked the same question about why Selene was in prison.
"The reason I can be here is because..."
Before she could answer, a man stepped up to their table and stood right next to Selene.
"It looks like you’ve started to get along with each other."
Damien and Hannah immediately turned to the man, who was none other than Caelum.
"C-Chief Rothwell?!" Hannah was surprised to see him standing there.
Only Selene remained silent without turning to him, as she knew he would scold her after this.
Caelum leaned slightly towards Selene, then whispered in her ear. "Trying to avoid something?"
"What you mean? I don’t understand at all. Do you need anything from me, Chief Rothwell?" asked Selene with a slight smile at her lover.
"I’m just trying to warn you about your attitude. I want you to take good care of her," he replied.
"She’s been keeping a good attitude ever since. She didn’t even make any trouble at all. So what’s the big deal here?" asked Damien, after he saw how Caelum seemed to be criticizing Selene for not causing any trouble.
The Chief Warden’s eyes turned to him and fixed him with a piercing stare. He straightened up and faced Damien.
"I know that, but I was just warning her."
"Why would you warn someone who is even silent? Are you trying to intimidate the female prisoners here?" the former mob boss asked again, now glaring back at Caelum.
Little did he know that Caelum was simply warning his lover not to talk to Damien any further. Let alone have a close relationship with him. However, seeing Damien continue to defend Selene made Caelum feel jealous and even more unhappy with what was happening in front of him.
Selene is currently in a situation where she is being fought over by two men in front of her. She could see that the Chief Warden was not happy with Damien, making her certain that she would die that very night by him.
"I think that’s enough. You two don’t need to make a fuss about this. Because I don’t think it’s important to keep talking about it." Selene finally opened her mouth, stopping the two men from exchanging threatening glances.
The two men cleared their throats, and Caelum turned to her.
"Stand up and come with me." With such a cold tone of voice, he ordered her to follow him and leave the cantenn alone.
Seeing this, Damien wanted to stop Selene from leaving. However, Hannah restrained Damien from doing anything further for Selene’s sake as well.
In the end, he could only watch the woman he was ’attracted’ to leave together with the Chief Warden.
His eyes continued to follow the direction the two of them went until they were no longer visible after exiting the canteen.
"You shouldn’t have done that. Not a single prisoner dared to go against his words. So you might as well not do it so that you don’t get into trouble," Hannah said.
He turned back to her, and asked why she was holding back when Damien was trying to stop Selene from going with Caelum.
"It’s been almost a week here, and you still don’t know anything? Selene is actually Chief Rothwell’s girlfriend."
"A lover? A Chief Warden with a prisoner?" Damien had a hard time believing it, let alone a man like Caelum.
But Hannah confirmed that Selene was Caelum’s lover and everyone in the prison knew it. It was just that they chose to keep quiet, even though there had been an uproar over the privileges Caelum had given Selene.
That was another reason. Why the prisoners chose to avoid Selene was because they didn’t want to face Caelum either.
"Now you know that. So for Selene’s sake, I hope you don’t try to defend her to Chief Rothwell or he’ll get even more jealous," said a worried Hannah.
Now Damien really understood what was going on in that place.
It turned out that the woman he was attracted to already had a lover, and that man was the chief of the prison.
However, something was stirring inside him. It was as if he would not stop there to get closer to Selene.
It made him even more eager to win her heart.
"The figures of justice and destruction do not go well together. Just like the two of them."
