High School of Demon Hunting
Chapter 1618 - 362 Adjusting Deployment
CHAPTER 1618: CHAPTER 362 ADJUSTING DEPLOYMENT
The world is not a bubble.
The passage between two worlds is not a culvert connecting bubbles, with entrances and exits shaped like cavities.
The entrance to the Black Prison in the sky above Buji Island is a black moon.
The shadow of the Wizard World falling upon the Black Prison World is a long white rainbow—’the World’s Door’ whose color reflects the characteristics of each world, and whose appearance depends on the shape formed when different dimensions intersect.
It is roughly akin to a stick in the three-dimensional world which may appear as a circular surface in a two-dimensional world; and the shadow of the two-dimensional world cast on that three-dimensional stick might be nothing more than a long, narrow mark.
There are more or less differences in the dimensional lines that constitute different worlds, creating distinctions in rules between those worlds. This is also why even though there are ’doors’ for communication, the exchange between Black Prison and the First University remains obstructed.
"Immediately establish contact with the First University, confirm which door has been broken! Confirm the cause of the entrance’s destruction! Confirm any casualties! Confirm the status of the First University and Buji Island!"
"Yes!"
"Order the Department of Star Divination to calculate whether the area covered by the white rainbow will cause any obstruction to the plan; also, arrange for the diviners to reassess the impact of newly emerged variables."
"Yes!"
"Reduce the magical defense support of the Black Prison Defensive Magic Array for the inner and main castles, prioritize the saved magic power for the sensitivity modules of the Guardian Legal Formation, and raise the sensitivity of the Array to the highest level!... If another incident occurs, I don’t want the prisoners in the Black Prison to see it happen at the same time as we do!"
"Yes!"
One command after another was issued from the depths of the Black Prison Castle.
The castle, initially sitting securely in the center of the Black Prison World, resembled a war machine slowly picking up speed. Gears meshed and pulled chains into motion, the hub trembled amidst the roar of the engine, emitting an aura that made the entire Black Prison World tremble.
The two Vice Principals of the First University stood together on the battlements of the inner castle, observing every corner of the battlefield.
On the nearby carriageway behind the parapet, wizards of various robe colors carried commands written on parchment, bamboo slips, and silk scrolls as they hurriedly moved back and forth. In an instant, figures would disappear behind the merlons, and new figures would emerge from the shadows.
The order atop the battlements appeared urgent yet unflustered, busy but not chaotic.
The faint blue smoke from the flaming talisman paper mingled with the weak glow from whispered curses, weaving a flavor unique to magical warfare.
"Will reducing the magic support for the inner and main castles affect the overall defense strength of Black Prison?" a white-robed wizard cautiously reminded not far behind the two Vice Principals.
Shi Hui turned back, shooting the wizard a glare: "You were summoned here not to hide behind the triple defensive magic arrays to just watch those demons flaunt their evil... The outer fortress alone is enough for the Defensive Magic Array!"
"Remember, we are the masters of this world!"
These words were invigorating, yet not entirely convincing.
After all, the Black Prison Castle also has the critical duty of safeguarding the Xuanhuang Ancient Tree, and if the multiple layers of defense outside truly were breached, allowing fiendish energy to pollute unchecked, it would undoubtedly adversely affect the fruiting Xuanhuang Wood.
However, noticing the calm expression on another elderly figure cloaked in a black robe beside her, everyone on the wall realized this decision had reached consensus between the two Vice Principals, so no one dared to voice objection.
...
Hilda was unaware of what transpired on the battlements of the inner castle.
He was merely an inconspicuous registered wizard stationed in one of the four towers of the main castle.
The prominent white rainbow under the distant night sky, like a touch of frost on an autumn morning, jarringly awoke the young wizards on the tower who had just relaxed as they chatted.
It also added to the heaviness of the sentiments within the tower’s assistant team—compared to hunters from the New World, the teaching assistants who had long worked at the First University were more aware of the school’s current vulnerabilities and understood better the risks the white rainbow revealed.
Professor Yao ended the previous conversation abruptly, thrusting an anti-evil charm into Zhang Yu’s hand.
"Report!"
A wizard clad in a dark red robe suddenly appeared at the entrance to the tower, quickly advancing under the gazes of everyone while holding up a jade pendant:
"Inner Castle Principal’s Order!"
"The Department of Star Divination in the Headquarters detected multiple points of magical fluctuations at the ’White Rainbow Entrance,’ judging that an undetermined number of individuals have entered the Black Prison. Vice Principal Shi Hui orders the Nine Power Tower to dispatch a hunting team to search!"
"Above-mentioned, execute immediately!"
Professor Yao took the jade talisman, frowned, and glanced at it, then nodded.
The messenger wizard let out a light breath, nodded at a few familiar red-robed individuals nearby, then bowed and quietly withdrew, disappearing again at the tower entrance.
The professor and the two vice deans whispered briefly, raised his hand, and pointed virtually among the young wizards:
"Zhang Yu, Thomas, Hilda, Victor, Ruoyezhi, the five of you go out for a task, Zhang Yu acts as team leader, stay safe."
The five black-robed individuals responded at the call, bowed their heads, and consented.
...
Compared to the wizards in the Black Prison Castle responding tensely.
The prisoners in the Hell Equation became increasingly exuberant.
To them, the fact that a breach appeared in the sky of the Black Prison held a symbolic significance far beyond that of their earlier efforts in breaking several abandoned fortresses of the wizards. It signified that the night above them was no longer pitch-black, and that this prison would finally welcome new light.
Moreover, it’s possible the tear could have been made by a demon army outside the Black Prison.
The assault that had lost momentum due to lack of progress seemed to have been invigorated by the white rainbow, as if injected with excitement, suddenly becoming more intense.
Regardless of whether they were under control, the already-frenzied prisoners howled, with eyes bloodshot, swinging claws or makeshift weapons, charging towards the wizards’ defenses.
However, in contrast to the cannon fodder, the actions of the few Big Demons were notably cautious.
"Creak, creak... not our people," the Witch Demon Sujade clattered its jawbone, speaking to a small spider clinging to the skull of a skeletal soldier nearby.
The small spider swelled with the wind, revealing a beautiful face on its back.
"Of course not yours," the Sky Spider Eris smiled faintly, "I can feel the divine presence from that gap... not our gods, nor the Wizards’ gods... but the presence of what you call the ’Old’ divine spirits."
"Creak," Sujade’s jawbone paused for a moment, the scarlet in its eye sockets flickered slightly as if contemplating the aura of the white rainbow. After a while, its jawbone tapped again:
"Indeed... akin to that creature in the depths of the Abyss at the eastern edge... I thought It wasn’t interested in leaving."
"Maybe it just wasn’t interested before. But if given the chance, who would want to be imprisoned in this dark, sunless place forever?"
