CHAPTER 486: HAVING THE DEMEANOR OF THE HEAD OF THE HOUSEHOLD.
The man lowered his head, gazed at her small face, then kissed her brow before turning to leave.
Daisy Ginger stood at the doorway, watching his retreating figure, and exhaled softly.
Robert Stephens’s arrival was like a massive dark cloud, once again dragging the deliberately forgotten past to the forefront of her thoughts.
Those matters weren’t just reassured away by Edward Stephens saying things were fine.
*
At this moment, Robert Stephens had already been settled in the best dormitory building.
George Stephens was running around the room hugging a small rubber ball, sometimes leaning on the window to look outside, sometimes dribbling the ball.
Robert Stephens lay on the soft leather sofa, reading a German book. Unable to bear the noise, he put down the book and raised his head impatiently, warning, "If you keep this up, I’ll lock you in the room."
"Dad!"
Just as he finished speaking, George interrupted, clutching the ball, completely ignoring his words, excitedly running to the door to welcome someone inside.
"Second Young Master, sir is reading in the bedroom. When you go in later, be quiet."
The sound of the butler’s voice came from the doorway.
Soon after, footsteps approached from outside.
Robert Stephens raised his gaze, looking at the young man slowly approaching him.
He was dressed in a black coat, tall and lean, the four years had erased any past naivete, making him appear composed, solemn, and steady.
He had developed the demeanor of the head of a household.
Recalling how he had nurtured young George into such excellence from just a little brat, Robert felt very satisfied.
Edward Stephens came over, sat opposite Robert, poured himself a glass of water, took a slow sip, then raised his gaze to look at him.
"What’s the matter?"
Though phrased as a question, his tone didn’t carry any inquiry, making it sound rather indifferent.
"You’ve been in Tsing City for several months now, when do you plan to return to the United States?"
Edward leaned back on the sofa, lowering his eyelids, gazing at the steaming cup in his hand, his fair face serene and calm.
Upon hearing this, he seemed to smile slightly, his lips curling subtly, speaking softly, "Do I have to report even when I plan to return home to you?"
Robert chuckled too, his voice calm, not sounding aggressive, "Of course, it’s not necessary. But Tsing City is a small place, not much fun here, I’m genuinely curious what interesting things might keep you here so long, warranting so much of your time."
Edward took another sip of water and said blandly, "Could it simply be because I don’t want to see you?"
"That’s certainly possible." He laughed, "But I heard..."
"Teacher." Having waited long, George was annoyed, bluntly interrupting Robert, calling to him.
Robert paused, thoughts interrupted suddenly, slightly disoriented, he slowly turned his head to look at George standing next to him, his face puffed up.
This kid is truly getting more and more...
"What’s wrong with you?" He asked in a deep voice.
"I want to chat with Dad." George pouted, "Didn’t you say to call Dad back to accompany me? Why are you talking with him all the time?"
Robert pinched his brow, speaking lowly, "George, I’m discussing serious matters with your dad. Could you not interrupt?"
"..." George’s entire little face drooped, glaring at him in accusation, full of anger and grievance.
