CHAPTER 490: GO THROUGH FIRE AND WATER FOR YOU

That night, Daisy Ginger found a nest of grasshoppers in her bed.

As soon as she lifted the blanket, a nest of green grasshoppers flew out. Even with Daisy’s bravery, she was scared out of her wits.

Elena Raven heard her scream and ran in. Seeing the bugs hopping around Daisy’s room, Elena’s face turned pale too.

"Daisy, who did this?" Elena was almost crying in fear, "We should report it to Director Carter. Who knows what they’ll do next?"

With a pale face, Daisy grabbed a grasshopper off her head and said to Elena, "It’s useless."

Would Director Carter dare to offend him?

The grasshoppers flew everywhere. Daisy had played with them as a child and recognized them, so she wasn’t afraid.

After spending over an hour sweeping the jumpy grasshoppers into a trash bin, she was exhausted, sitting on the sofa catching her breath.

The freshly dried bedding was dirtied again, making Daisy frown in frustration.

Knowing who did it but unable to confront them was very annoying.

Should she tell Edward Stephens?

He didn’t like that kid. If she asked Edward to lecture him, the guy might hate her even more—though she didn’t understand why the kid disliked her in the first place.

She hadn’t offended him, had she?

Daisy sat on the sofa, smoking in frustration.

Elena helped her stuff the bedding and sheets into the washing machine, then returned to look at Daisy.

"Daisy, do you know who did it?" she asked, seeing that Daisy was frowning but not intending to confront anyone, feeling a bit frustrated.

With Daisy’s character, it was hard to imagine her taking such a mild approach without fighting back.

"It’s okay, sweetie. I’ll squeeze in with you tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll ask the crew for more bedspreads."

After all, with just half a month left of filming, it wasn’t necessary to offend Robert Stephens. Once they left the crew, she probably wouldn’t see the kid anymore.

Daisy stubbed out her cigarette, glanced at Elena’s wrinkled face, smiled, and said calmly, "It’s no big deal, just a change of bedding. At worst, I’ll change it every day."

"It’s not the end of the world... it’s just gross having it dirty every day," Elena wrinkled her nose.

Daisy stood up from the sofa, stretched lazily, "No problem, I’ll take a shower and go to sleep."

Seeing Daisy not intending to pursue it, Elena had nothing more to say. She trusted Daisy a lot, so if Daisy thought it wasn’t a big deal, she felt reassured.

That afternoon, Edward Stephens asked her out for a stroll.

These days, with Robert here, they had less time alone. Daisy didn’t want to run into him, so unless Elena needed to film alongside her, she mostly stayed in her room.

Those two brothers were strange. Clearly both were extremely busy men, but they insisted on staying in this tiny village, both being the culprits dragging down the filming schedule.

Edward was one thing, as he was this movie’s producer, he had a reason to stick around, but why was Robert there? Surely he wasn’t just sightseeing?

When Daisy came downstairs, she saw Edward in a smoke gray sweater lazily leaning against the door frame waiting for her.

In the clear early summer sunlight, his fair skin was nearly translucent, and his slender neck showed faint bluish veins.

When he saw her coming down, he turned his head to look at her.

The green hills and waters behind him made him seem like a painting come to life as he stood before her.

Daisy walked up to him, pouting, "When is your brother going back?"

"I don’t know." He replied nonchalantly.

"Then what is he here for?" Daisy kicked a pebble by her foot, "Do you know, since he arrived, two cameras have broken over at the filming set..."

Edward couldn’t help but chuckle, "What does that have to do with him?"

"How does it not? When he comes, we surely run into bad luck."

Edward held her hand, leading her to stroll around the parts of the set where no one was. They did have things to do, but for some reason, they both wanted to take this time to relax.

Daisy hoped for Robert to leave, partly wishing he would take George with him. With dirt clods and grasshoppers appearing on her bed, while not harmful, it was disgusting nonetheless. Emotional distress was still a loss!

In recent days, to avoid any more damage to her sheets, she folded her blankets and put them in the wardrobe whenever she left, leaving behind an empty bed.

Perhaps because she was prepared, her dorm finally had some peace, without the need to wash sheets at night anymore.

"When are you coming back to Chicago with me?"

Edward suddenly asked.

Daisy was taken aback, stopping in her tracks, and couldn’t help but look up at him.

Edward lowered his eyes, holding her hand, and said lightly, "I can tell, you’re not indifferent to me."

Daisy didn’t know what to say, shrinking her hand, trying to pull her fingers away from his grasp.

Edward said, "You can’t want me to be your secret lover my whole life, can you?"

"What nonsense are you talking about?"

"A secret lover, right?" He looked at her, "And without any status. Worse than an affair."

Daisy was speechless.

Edward crossed his arms, looking down at her, "Give me a deadline."

"Edward, I really..." can’t be with you, can I? Daisy helplessly raised her head, shook it, and said softly, "Sorry, I..."

"I will avenge your mother."

Edward suddenly said.

Daisy was startled, looking up at him.

"Give me a little more time, and I’ll give you an answer."

Daisy smiled a bit, not knowing what to say.

Avenge?

How? Seek justice by betraying family, kill Robert for her? Not to mention Robert was his own brother, and she didn’t want Edward to commit a crime for her.

Seeing her faint smile, Edward wanted to say more when someone suddenly ran up from a distance, shouting, "Second Young Master, sir has something to discuss with you!"

Edward swallowed his unsaid words, seemingly a little impatient. Daisy nodded at him, "You go attend to your matters, I want to go back to rest too."

Edward looked at her, sighed softly, reached out to ruffle Daisy’s hair, then kissed her forehead, "I know I owe you too much, but if you have me in your heart, I’ll do anything for you."

Feeling a bit sad at his words, Daisy hugged him, then let him go, "Go ahead."

She watched Edward leave and then lowered her head to let out a soft sigh. Suddenly, a chill ran through her, and the hair on her neck stood up—

She looked behind her and locked eyes with a pair of dark eyes. The child stood in the shade of a tree, holding a small ball, and looked at her without any expression.
