CHAPTER 518: DAISY GINGER, HAPPY COOPERATION

Obviously, it’s your clumsiness, yet you blame her for being heartless...

Daisy Ginger closed her eyes and sighed softly.

*

Daisy stayed in the hospital for a week and was finally freed.

The doctor gave her some instructions regarding her discharge, like being careful about falls, avoiding overusing her brain, and then let her go home.

On the day of her discharge, it was Edward Stephens who drove her back to her apartment.

The man was also busy, bade her farewell, and drove off again.

Daisy took a trip to Royal Entertainment to check on the company’s performance over the last month, then called Elena Raven to inquire about the progress of her recent filming.

Elena was happy to receive her call, inquired if she was well, then informed her that the shooting had wrapped up. Just a few reshoots remained, and then it would be complete.

This project had been fraught with challenges, from the lead actress Emma Magus falling into the water to the disappearance of the investor’s son, nearly preventing it from being released.

Hearing the confirmatory news from Elena, Daisy breathed a sigh of relief.

"Finish up and come back with your assistant soon. I won’t come to pick you up."

"Okay, okay, I’ll take good care of myself," Elena said cheerfully.

Her acting skills had been recognized by the crew, and the once timid girl now sounded much more confident. Daisy smiled and hung up the phone.

In the evening, Daisy paid a visit to the Stephens family.

When she arrived, James Shelton was not there; only Erin Ginger was painting in the studio.

She stood at the doorway, not disturbing him, and only gently called out, "Erin," when he paused from his painting to take a break.

Upon hearing her voice, Erin turned his head. His cool little face showed a hint of surprise in his eyes as he called out, "Mommy," and stood up from his chair to run into her embrace.

There was a smudge of black paint on his fair little face. Daisy reached out, touched it, and smiled, "Little kitty."

Erin hugged her neck and asked in his soft, childlike voice, "Will you stay over today?"

Holding him, Daisy walked downstairs, "Yes, Mommy will sleep with Erin tonight, okay?"

Erin blinked his big, thick-lashed eyes, "Will Mommy tell me a story tonight?"

Daisy casually replied, "Sure, I’ll tell Erin the story of the Three Little Pigs today..."

Erin’s eyes curved into a smile. He didn’t remind her that she told it to him 185 days ago and obediently replied, "Okay!"

The children of their family are still the cutest.

After some comparison, Daisy concluded that Erin was more endearing and took him into the dining room.

No one knew where James had gone, and neither Erin nor she had eaten dinner. Daisy wasn’t particularly in the mood for anything, so she ordered them some noodles to be made.

After dinner, Daisy spent more time with her son in the studio drawing. By eight o’clock, she carried him to take a bath, then lay in bed with him and read the story of the Three Little Pigs.

"Once upon a time, there was a mother pig with three children..."

Erin lay on the pillow, showing only his eyes, blinking as he looked at Daisy with an unmistakable attachment and affection in them. While reading the fairy tale, Daisy would occasionally lower her gaze to look at him. Under the warm orange light, their eyes seemed to be tinted with amber hues, gentle and sweet.

Half an hour later, Daisy gently put the book down and got off the bed.

She looked at the already sleeping Erin, catching a glimpse of Edward Stephens’ sleeping visage in his peaceful face.

For some reason, she lowered her eyes, laughing lightly, then reached out to caress Erin’s soft face before turning off the wall light.

Quietly, she left the children’s room.

In soft slippers, Daisy stifled a small yawn and heard the sound of a car engine parking downstairs.

It was almost ten o’clock when James finally returned.

He stepped in from outside wearing a long black trench coat. The man was handsome, in a way distinct from Edward’s attractiveness. Leaning against the upstairs railing, Daisy greeted him, "Hi."

James paused upon hearing her voice, looked up, and met Daisy’s smiling face from upstairs.

She seemed thinner, wearing a light white home outfit with a V-neck that revealed delicate, distinct collarbones, smiling with a lazy charm.

"Why didn’t you call me to tell me you were coming back today?"

James removed his coat, hanging it on his arm, and walked upstairs.

"I’ve been swamped lately and forgot." Daisy saw the man who had approached, catching a faint scent of women’s perfume from him, and laughed, "How was I supposed to know it was your day to mess around?"

When they got married, they had established ground rules — they wouldn’t interfere in each other’s personal lives, nor was she responsible for his physical needs.

She knew James had a few friends-with-benefits. Young men in their prime, it was too cruel to ask him to abstain. As long as his partners were clean, she didn’t meddle.

James glanced at her well-nourished, rosy face, his long fingers undoing a button at his collar. Daisy noticed a fresh red mark on his neck and snickered softly.

It seemed his date today was quite a possessive little wildcat.

"I’m curious about where you’ve been these days, not even making time to see your son," James grumbled. "What kind of mother does that?"

Leaving everything to him, he nearly exploded from the pressure.

"I was hospitalized," Daisy shrugged, "You’d never guess what I’ve been through these past two weeks."

"..." James paused, looking at her noticeably slimmer figure, furrowing his brows, and asked, "What’s wrong with you? Why didn’t you call me?"

"Nothing major, just a week in the hospital," Daisy fanned the air and pinched her nose, saying, "You’re drenched in perfume; go take a shower, it’s suffocating me."

"...You’re so particular," James muttered after a moment, giving her a glare before walking off grumpily.

"By the way."

Behind him, Daisy called softly.

James turned his head, looking at her.

"Royal Entertainment has been doing well lately," Daisy smiled slightly, genuinely meaning congratulations, "I think, at the latest by the end of the year, we can prepare for the IPO."

"..." James looked at her, "All thanks to you."

"Indeed," she accepted without modesty, "By then, I’ll find you a few loyal and capable assistants. As long as you don’t interfere with Royal Entertainment’s operations, there won’t be any issues within five years of going public. You’ll achieve financial independence with your grandfather then."

"Thank you." James returned, standing in front of her. He looked down at her, "I’ll have the divorce papers ready by then." He raised his hand, gently placing it on her thin, delicate shoulder, inhaling the faint rose scent from her, "Daisy, it’s been a pleasure working with you."
