Chapter 634: Cause and Result
CHAPTER 634: CAUSE AND RESULT
No. 0 was the world’s saviour’s number, but Xuan Wen didn’t seem to have a good impression of it.
“The ghosts were too powerful, and the living lacked the means to control them. Guided by No. 0, Immortal Pharma flew down the other spectrum. They stopped treating Han Hai as the seed of a new world and turned it into a prison. They conducted many horrible experiments there to obtain immortality and the power of divine ghosts.
“That was when Project Han Hai changed. It went from creating a new world to fighting for absolute control of Han Hai.
“Everything Immortal Pharma had gone was in pursuit of this goal. The living flesh couldn’t sustain the black mist behind the door, so they borrowed the altars of the Unmentionables. They sent human consciousness inside them. It is hard to construct and maintain a stable connection, so they have been setting up sacrifices to the other Yin Gods in the different blood cities to ask them for help.
“You cannot imagine the crazy things Immortal Pharma has done to achieve their goal.
“After endless attempts and tests, they selected ten candidates from a lot of testers. All ten possess the qualifications to become Blood City owners. They can still retain their sanity despite the corruption of the nightmare.
“Immortal Pharma used the excuse of treating brain illnesses to send the ten candidates into Han Hai. The plan was carried out here at this hospital. However, an accident happened that night. There were suddenly three more candidates. You were one of them.”
Xuan Wen looked at Gao Ming silently as she jogged his memory, “Your school bus got into an accident. You expended your life to save the kids. You were ferried here by the ambulance. To save your life, I employed Immortal Pharma’s latest technology on you. I sent your fading consciousness into Han Hai.
“My momentary kindness shoved you into the spiral of despair and enabled you to become one of the thirteen candidates to take over the blood cities.”
There were many coincidences linked in life that created chains of fate. No one could escape.
“Since you arranged to send me to Han Hai, you should know everything that has happened to me. However, you don’t appear to be familiar with the Blood City tattoo on my body or anything else.” Gao Ming’s heart slowed as the tattoo receded. As long as he didn’t use the Dream Ghost’s power, he looked just like a normal guy.
“First, I need to clarify something. I do not represent Immortal Pharma. I do not align with their motto. I am not helping them.” After that, Xuan Wen started to answer Gao Ming, “Immortal Pharma underestimated the difficulty of taking over the control of a blood city. You’ve entered the shadow world in Han Hai, right? Have you seen the monsters living in the shadow?”
Gao Ming nodded.
“The shadow world is Han Hai’s real appearance. The Blood City’s lingering consciousness and presence destroyed the saviour’s city and disrupted Immortal Pharma’s plan. Everything went out of control.”
It dawned on Gao Ming. The scary scenes he witnessed at Han Hai were the Blood City struggling, “So… that is the meaning of the inversion of humans and ghosts….”
“You shouldn’t have come to me. Tang Ling has long since targeted you. She is trying her best to figure you out.” Xuan Wen’s voice was even. It didn’t betray her true thoughts. “Xin Lu is not as peaceful as it appears. There is no anomaly because the dark side of the city has been isolated into different labs. I know you have mastered some kind of power in the nightmare, but it is far from enough. You can’t even take down Tang Ling, much less the mysterious No. 0. After all, Tang Ling has interacted with actual Unmentionable.”
“Interacted with and having an Unmentionable’s power is different.” Gao Ming didn’t mean to retreat.
“But it does mean you might face the might of an Unmentionable.” Xuan Wen raised her voice sternly. She’d never do that in the nightmare.
Noticing this change in her expression, Gao Ming revealed a slight smile, “Will they let me go… If I avoid them?”
After some truths were exposed, the room returned to silence. Gao Ming and Xuan Wen were clever people. Many things didn’t need to be said out loud. They both knew the answer. For example, When Xuan Wen saw the Blood City Tattoo on Gao Ming’s body, she told him about Han Hai. Lying would only push them away from each other.
“Are you here to ask me about that?” There were some things that Xuan Wen didn’t voice out. “If there’s nothing else, I have to visit the other patients. Xia Yang in Room 7009 is not doing so well. He would cut himself and use his blood to paint out the blood city. Other than that, Ah Fang likes to use blocking blocks to build the Blood City. He needs a lot of help.”
Gao Ming didn’t move out of the way. His brain was filled with memories of Xuan Wen. For others, it might have been a few months of testing, but for Gao Ming, it had been many separations and reunions.
His palm reached out of the dark. The moonlight shone on his palm and fell through his fingers. Gao Ming caught nothing.
“Can you tell me who you are?”
Gao Ming hadn’t asked his question because when you knew the answers to certain things, you couldn’t play dumb anymore. Xuan Wen’s work with Immortal Pharma had already explained many things.
“I am Xuan Wen, the real Xuan Wen. The version you met in the nightmare was fake. It was a mirage generated by the altar. Her goal was to guide you into Han Hai, the city that only existed in the nightmare.” Xuan Wen put away her stuff. “It is over, so don’t be held back by the things in the nightmare anymore. You have left Han Hai. There’s no need to return. Your own happiness is important.”
The full lips appeared pale in the moonlight. Xuan Wen walked past Gao Ming and into the dark. She appeared to be worried about a typical patient but also suffered from an overflow of emotions.
Gao Ming kept many questions in his heart. His brain was in chaos. The fragmented memories darted about. They were related to one person.
Outside the room, Xuan Wen wasn’t in a hurry to check on the other patients. Instead, she ran into the staff elevator. After two confirmations, she arrived at the floor that was not open to the public. She entered a suffocating and dim abandoned surgery theatre.
After locking the room behind her, Xuan Wen let go of her white knuckles. She leaned on the door and stared at the surgical table that hadn’t seen usage in a very long time.
