How Am I Still Alive?

Chapter 1915: Chapter 1909 Tree Snake
Overwork is always unpleasant, especially when the finished product from the overtime turns out to be incredibly different from what one needs.
“Is this a Tree-man? Is this a damn Tree-man?”
When Xiao Mumu finally started to fulfill her responsibilities and quickly completed the first wave of creations, Lu was a bit dumbfounded during the inspection.
“It’s an animal-shaped tree creature. Ha, humans are always so arrogant, insisting on making robots humanoid, which entails unnecessarily high costs. Spider forms are more suitable for mechanical limbs, and for Tree-men, extra limbs are actually meaningless…”
In some ways, Mumu is a child who can do what she says.
After Lu Ping’an finally pushed her, she really did create the Family Clan within a few days—the “Tree-man” that Lu Ping’an was most anticipating.
However, upon seeing it, there was no way to connect it with Tree-men.
“Serpentine limbs are the most fitting?”
“The elongated body, when toppled, becomes new limbs. Snakes walk with scales, and Tree-men can transform their bark. Leaves become photosensitive eyes…”
Mumu yawned halfway through her explanation and almost fell asleep.
At this moment, the two were surrounded by a “Tree Snake,” and the eyeballs densely packed on its leaves were quite eerie.
It looked like a brown giant serpent, though it was headless and tailless, with countless “little tentacles” quivering around it… trying to absorb nutrients through roots that, considering their size, couldn’t be used as mobility limbs.
Lu Ping’an was a bit dumbfounded; he understood what Mumu was saying… at least he could comprehend it.
Just like how monkeys evolved into humans, minimal life evolution consumes the least resources. Instead of adding limbs to transform masses of Magic Plants into Tree-man form, it’s better to directly adopt the “snake” life form.
Lu Ping’an improved the Gardener skill for summoning Tree-men, only to find that transforming the same tree into a “Tree Snake” consumed less than a quarter compared to a “Tree-man.”
And more importantly…
“This form can survive by taking root. Even if you expend energy to convert it back into a plant form, it can last longer. During this process, if it can reproduce more Child Bodies, then it wouldn’t be a loss no matter how you look at it.”
In truth, as Mumu spoke, Lu Ping’an couldn’t pinpoint any issues.
If a Life Form can operate properly, there’s no need to bother it unnecessarily… giving sharks legs doesn’t enhance their threat; it instead makes them easier to chase prey ashore and strand themselves.
More organs, stronger muscles—unless directly beneficial for survival, are simply an extra burden.
In this regard, “Tree-men” are actually typical.
As large, super-large melee units, their strength is basically bottom-tier compared to peers, partly because “wood” is relatively fragile, but also because Tree-men are generally sluggish with no explosive force to speak of.
This is a significant, negative attribute for melee units.
Whereas, a serpentine form doesn’t need limbs for mobility; merely twisting the body to drive “scales” can directly injure others.
With regard to species design, Tree Snakes are far more useful than Tree-men…
“Then why does everyone use Tree-men…?”
“Simply because everyone is a Humanoid Creature, humans can’t perform actions beyond their comprehension, especially in terms of control. The humanoid shape is easier to use… those so-called Combat Skills, Tree-men using their bark and trunks as force organs are actually entirely useless, which is why they’re destined to be sluggish and slow-reacting, given their every move has undergone a full mimicry.”
Mumu, in her “Tree-man” form, disdainfully criticizes the unreasonable structure and design problems, even voicing blasphemous statements.
“The result of big human centrism, humans’ favorite tree baby doll…”
Alright, Lu Ping’an doesn’t want to care anymore. When Mumu is in Little Tree-man form, she can’t move conveniently and spends her time on her phone, making her personality increasingly subtle.
All in all, Lu Ping’an can understand it; he doesn’t want to intervene in the form of his Family Clan’s Family Clan. He is actually more concerned about something else…
“Problem is, this isn’t merely a snake but also the shape of the tree… most aren’t stark-naked singular trunks.”
What lay before Lu Ping’an was a tangled “branch,” the constantly spreading and entwining branches, each taking on a serpentine form.
“Looks a bit like Medusa…”
It indeed resembled the snake-haired Divine Beast, and Lu Ping’an nodded in satisfaction.
“Meow! It’s tentacles! Such big Tentacle Monster!”
And Meow jumped out inappropriately, “offhandedly” revealing the truth.
The posture of branches placed on the ground, dancing like snakeheads, was too much akin to the legendary Parasitic Beast.
“Tentacles? Alright, I know your desire for them…”
While summoning genuine “Life Tentacles” to chase Meow, Lu Ping’an must consider the packaging issue carefully.
There’s no problem with strength and life form; having the entire body covered in “bark” and using the bark to attack opponents fits Lu Ping’an’s design requirements.
However, now this form is overly eerie.
“Anyway, in your orientation, Tree-men are just War machines. Isn’t being eerie beneficial?”
“I hope Tree-men can also have breeds and social forms…”
“Pfft.”
Upon hearing this, Mumu directly laughs, shaking her head.
“We don’t need that. We fundamentally differ… Trees are always in survival competition, we’re constantly competing for sunlight, water, and nutrition. We don’t have brains; survival and reproduction are our essence. We don’t need the ‘human’ social structure.”
This time, it was Lu Ping’an’s turn to be enlightened.
Plants and animals differ fundamentally in several aspects, and Lu Ping’an indeed exhibited some “big human centrism” by directly presuming the other’s needs.
In other areas, this kind of divergence becomes more apparent and intense, possibly even irreconcilable.
“As expected, they’ve started fighting again.”
Watching the two “Tree Snakes” begin to intertwine and slaughter each other, Lu Ping’an sighed. Weak humans need to group to cope with natural disasters, whereas self-sustaining “trees” likely don’t need it; group living only results in nutrient deficiency internally.
If possible, many plants will try to kill their “competitors” as much as possible.
But if Tree Snakes don’t group, the war form is also essentially useless.
Looking at Mumu still catalyzing “tree tentacle monster,” “Tree Snake,” Lu Ping’an sighed and decided not to intervene anymore… he admitted that probably by constantly reading and refining, Mumu was more professional than himself in this aspect.
However, he still must put forward his own requests.
“The evolution of Lamp Tree, get it done quickly. This is crucial, very crucial.”
