How Did I Become an F1 Driver?
Chapter 66 - 60: Choices
CHAPTER 66: CHAPTER 60: CHOICES
After everything was settled, Qimeng carefully put Qin Miao’s documents into her bag and saved the phone number of Qin Miao’s team manager.
Having handled these matters, Qimeng looked up at Qin Miao and said, "I’m hungry!"
Originally, he didn’t feel it, but hearing Qimeng say that, Qin Miao also felt the hunger in his stomach.
He took out his phone to check the time; it was already past 6 PM, and the sky was gradually darkening. It was dinner time.
However, Qin Miao remembered Yu Jialiang mentioning he wanted to treat him to dinner. If he hadn’t accepted, he would have definitely taken Qimeng to the buffet prepared by the organizer, but since he had already agreed, he couldn’t break the promise.
Both were indeed quite hungry now, and since Yu Jialiang hadn’t contacted Qin Miao yet, he decided to take Qimeng for something light and wait for the dinner invitation call.
Just as they started moving towards the buffet, Qin Miao’s phone rang.
He found it was from an unfamiliar number based in Shanghai.
Seeing the number, Qin Miao had a rough guess who the caller was.
"Hey, Qin Miao? It’s Yu here, where are you now? Ready to head out for dinner." Yu Jialiang’s voice transmitted through the phone into Qin Miao’s ear.
Qin Miao responded, "I just received an award at the podium. Where are you? I’ll come find you."
"Good, remember the supercar showroom we saw when entering the venue? Come find me there."
"Alright, I’ll be there in 5 minutes."
After speaking, Qin Miao hung up the phone, shook his phone at Qimeng beside him, and said, "The person treating us to dinner is here."
Qimeng curiously asked, "Yu Jialiang?"
Qin Miao nodded, "How did you guess?"
Rolling her eyes, "When you two parted ways, he mentioned not forgetting the matter. Probably he wanted to treat you to dinner or something. I’m not dumb; I can see that."
"Hehe, let’s go and see how Yu plans to compensate me. Give me the stuff; I’ll help you carry it."
"You take the lighter ones; you must be tired after the race..."
...
In less than five minutes, Qin Miao and Qimeng arrived at the large showroom with their belongings.
Initially, Qin Miao thought they’d meet there and head straight to a restaurant, but unexpectedly, Yu Jialiang led Qin Miao and Qimeng to a luxuriously decorated office.
Upon entering, the office was empty, and Qin Miao asked puzzledly, "Are we waiting for someone else?"
Yu Jialiang smiled and said, "Don’t worry, you’ll know soon enough."
Just as he finished, a female staff member walked in.
Both Qin Miao and Qimeng were familiar with her; she was Zhuang Yuqin, responsible for hosting them.
She politely bowed to Yu Jialiang and then approached Qin Miao with a smile, holding a document and said, "Mr. Qin, here’s the purchase contract for the Ferrari 488 Pista. Could you please sign here?"
Qin Miao: ???
Qimeng: ???
Feeling somewhat bewildered, Qin Miao looked up at Yu Jialiang, full of confusion and asked incredulously, "Yu, what’s this supposed to mean?"
Yu Jialiang was a bit bewildered himself. Was a purchase worth several millions worth such a reaction?
Casually waving his hand, Yu Jialiang replied, "Didn’t I tell you I made a wager with those three guys? The bet was whoever had the best race results could pick any car from the showroom, and the other three would cover the cost."
"Well, this is what you helped me win."
Twitching slightly at the corner of his mouth, Qin Miao vaguely remembered Yu Jialiang saying it was a "small wager." Looking at the supercar, which cost over 4 million without taxes and reached 6 million with taxes.
This was a small wager?
"This is a bet between you and your friends; what does it have to do with me?"
Yu Jialiang waved his hand and said, "I’m aware of my racing skills. Without you, I’d be one of those three big spenders today, and my garage isn’t missing a Ferrari. Also, I was the reason you lost first place. Even though it didn’t involve any benefits, I still hope to compensate you a bit, so consider this as a gift to make amends."
Qin Miao wanted to decline again, but quickly recalled a word from Zhuang Yuqin’s earlier conversation: Ferrari 488 Pista.
Damn, could this be the Ferrari that came from my Purple Lottery?
Thinking of this, Qin Miao stopped refusing. Besides, from what Yu Jialiang implied, this couple of million might really just be their pocket change.
Without hesitation, Qin Miao nodded and said, "Then I’ll accept it gratefully."
Yu Jialiang smiled and nodded, "Exactly, I feel much better now after giving you this small gift. Otherwise, having meals with you would feel a bit awkward."
Initially, he thought that signing a car purchase contract would take some time, but compared to a driver contract, this was much easier. Qin Miao just signed one name, and Zhuang Yuqin smiled, nodding, took the document away, and said, "Please wait a moment."
"Huh?" Qin Miao was momentarily stunned by the high efficiency.
Yu Jialiang noticed Qin Miao’s daze and was also puzzled, "What’s up?"
Qin Miao pointed at the departing Zhuang Yuqin and asked, "Is that it? Just a signature?"
Yu Jialiang shrugged and said, "You know why so many people come here to buy cars? For the convenience. You just sign your name and they handle all the miscellaneous matters like taxes, registration, and insurance for you."
Qin Miao had lost count of how many times he’d marveled at the perks of wealth.
"Alright, it’s convenient, but they won’t prepare your car’s paperwork that fast. I’ll leave them the address of where we’re eating, and they can deliver it there. Let’s go, I’m hungry too," Yu Jialiang said, checking his watch.
Qin Miao had no objections and left Shanghai with Yu Jialiang.
Although they were there for a racing experience, the car Yu Jialiang drove wasn’t a flashy supercar, nor even a two-seater sports car. It was a Maybach whose model Qin Miao couldn’t identify.
It’s not Qin Miao’s fault for not knowing much about cars. After all, he rarely came into contact with them in his daily life, and the car knowledge he had was from simulators. Recognizing a Maybach by the two ’M’s on its body was already good enough.
Qin Miao and Qimeng sat in the back while Yu Jialiang drove.
"Honestly, supercars are fast and indeed stylish, but if you want comfort," Yu Jialiang paused, patting the white armrest of the Maybach, "this is the one."
"Hey, speaking of sports cars, have you never really been into racing before, Qin Miao?" Yu Jialiang changed the topic.
Qin Miao felt there was no point in hiding it and answered truthfully, "Never drove in real life, just played on simulators at home with a force-feedback steering wheel in front of a monitor."
"No kidding?"
Qin Miao was helpless, "I have no reason to lie to you. There’s no benefit in showing off here."
"True, but if that’s the case, are you some kind of natural racing talent? Will you consider going professional?" Yu Jialiang asked curiously.
Qin Miao nodded without hesitation, "After discovering my talent, I’ll definitely pursue it. Didn’t the organizers give me a driver contract? It’s for a China GT team. I should try to race GT3 when I’m ready."
"Is it the reward for the top three drivers? I thought it was just a gimmick, turns out it’s real."
Qin Miao nodded, "I signed it and they gave me their number. If I want to join, I just contact them."
Yu Jialiang paused and said, "How about this? I’ve always been interested in racing but never took the plunge. Now’s the chance to form a GT3 team. Given your talent, would you like to join? No pressure, if you’re skilled, the number one driver’s spot is yours."
Qin Miao was inclined to agree. On one hand, his ultimate goal was to drive GT3 cars, and now there was an opportunity outside the organizer’s gimmick contract. On the other hand, Yu Jialiang had just given him a Ferrari 488 Pista. Although it was technically a system reward for Qin Miao, and he’d get it regardless, the process went through Yu Jialiang, causing Qin Miao to have a favorable impression of him.
However, just as Qin Miao was about to answer, Qimeng pinched him slightly, and he looked over to see her frown.
Though their relationship was officially confirmed less than half a month ago, they’d known each other for over three years. Qin Miao could tell what Qimeng wanted to express: don’t rush to agree.
Although he didn’t know why Qimeng advised him so, Qin Miao trusted her, so he evasively replied, "Yu, thanks for considering me, but I’m aware of my limitations. I don’t possess the skills to handle a GT3 right now, and I don’t want to be a burden to your team. I think I’ll hone my skills with the contract team, and contact you first when I have the ability to drive a GT3."
Yu Jialiang glanced in the rearview mirror, seeing Qin Miao’s earnest eyes.
He clicked his tongue a bit regretfully, "Alright, but there’ll always be a place for you on the team, come whenever you want."
Qin Miao promptly nodded.
