Hunter of Mysterious Creature
Chapter 65: The 29th Floor
CHAPTER 65: CHAPTER 65: THE 29TH FLOOR
The massive hammerhead instantly pierced through the floor, and the huge cracks spread with tremors to Sun Hang’s feet.
Sun Hang himself had already left the ground the moment the hammer swung out. With the aid of the mycelium, he adjusted his body’s orientation mid-air, pushing his feet against the ceiling to counteract the massive inertia as the heavy hammer swung down.
"Eighty!"
With another hammer strike, the originally seven or eight-meter diameter opening was instantly expanded to over twenty meters. The floor tiles shattered, the cracks spreading like lightning across the concrete layer— as for the steel structure used to support the building’s weight, it had already been extracted by Sun Hang before the hammer was formed.
The twenty-ninth floor completely collapsed.
Carrying the giant hammer, Sun Hang lightly landed on the twenty-eighth floor— he noticed that this twenty-eighth floor, apart from the scattered silicone mannequins and melted "D-634," had the exact same layout as the twenty-ninth floor above. Even the small decorations on the cubicle desks were completely identical.
Moreover, at the same position on the glass curtain wall, the huge hole Sun Hang made when he barged into the office building was "perfectly replicated."
These two floors were like a game scene copied and pasted by a lazy modeler using repetitive materials.
"Eighty! Eighty!"
Sun Hang smashed through the twenty-eighth floor’s slab once again. However, the twenty-seventh floor below was still identical...
Twenty-sixth floor, twenty-fifth floor, twenty-fourth floor...
Sixth floor, fifth floor, fourth floor...
First floor, basement one, basement two...
Sun Hang gazed at the familiar scene before him, then looked up at the large hole penetrating dozens of floors above, finally ceasing to swing the giant hammer.
The sixteen-meter-long giant hammer suddenly began to collapse inward. The metal, which had already been compacted, further compressed. After a teeth-gritting "crunching" sound, the enormous hammer transformed into a half-meter-long short knife, attaching to the inside of Sun Hang’s arm.
If one closely examined the blade of the short knife, they would notice that it seemed to be vibrating constantly, as if covered by a layer of flowing hot air filter.
Forcing the metal to compress to such an extent made the "state" of this short knife extremely unstable. It hadn’t "exploded" completely due to an invisible force restraining it... and once that force disappeared, the destructive power it could unleash would be far more terrifying than the attack of the previous giant hammer.
Sun Hang took three deep breaths consecutively before wiping away the sweat trickling from his forehead— the process of compressing metal required consuming "Spiritual Power" far more than he had imagined. But once the "maintenance phase" post-compression was reached, it became much easier.
"Hmm, this size is much handier." Sun Hang glanced at the short knife close to his arm, nodding.
His exclusive weapon "J-2796" had already been transported to the southern bridge by the research institute’s drone. Originally, it should have arrived at the battlefield concurrently with Sun Hang and their helicopter, but the sudden appearance of "D-634" completely disrupted this plan.
Fortunately, with Sun Hang’s current ability, weapons like "J-2796" could be mass-produced as long as there were enough materials.
If counting by the floors penetrated, Sun Hang should currently be on the negative ninth floor.
However, outside the glass curtain wall of "negative ninth floor" was still an endless dark abyss, and the second twenty-ninth floor style hole in the glass curtain wall still existed.
Sun Hang walked down the hallway outside the office area to the elevator lobby. As expected, the wall displayed "29F."
These dozens of floors were all replicas of the twenty-ninth floor.
Every time Sun Hang smashed through a floor slab, for this mysterious entity, it was merely like pressing "Ctrl+C" and "Ctrl+V"... Even if Sun Hang exhausted himself to death, he could never descend to the twenty-eighth floor by smashing through floors.
Sun Hang thought for a moment and returned to the office area. He remembered something he saw while glancing around just now.
It was a small drone on a charging base, with a logo of an advertising company sticker on it, and its controller was placed on the nearby desk.
Sun Hang picked up the controller, turned on the drone’s power, and the four small rotors immediately began to spin, lifting the drone to the height of his line of sight.
Connecting his phone to the drone’s camera via Bluetooth, Sun Hang controlled the drone to ascend along the large hole he just made, continuously rising until reaching the "twenty-ninth floor," filled with corpses.
Nothing had changed; the melted "D-634" and those silicone mannequins still remained in their spots, damaged circuits sparked, and water gushed from a cut pipe beside, soaking a large part of the carpet.
Sun Hang controlled the drone to circle around the office area, then adjusted the lever, letting the drone fly out from the broken section of the glass curtain wall.
However, the moment the drone rushed into the darkness, the image on the phone screen was completely swallowed by the darkness, and after two seconds, the words "Signal Lost" popped up, and the indicator on the controller switched from green to red.
"Tch, boring." Sun Hang tossed the controller casually and walked to the nearest office desk, pressing the computer’s power button.
Though the creepy office building lacked communication signals, neither the water supply nor electricity was cut off. Sun Hang first plugged his phone into a charging outlet on the side, then opened a Word document on the computer, contemplating momentarily before typing a sentence on the blank page.
"Can you understand my language?"
He waited for a few seconds, and saw the cursor twitch eerily twice. Without Sun Hang touching the keyboard or mouse, a word appeared below his sentence.
"Yes."
"Great, by what name should I address you?"
No response.
"Why did you lure me here? What do you want with me?"
No response.
"Is that melted thing ’D-634’?"
No response.
"Your mom’s dead."
Still no response.
Sun Hang flicked a middle finger at the computer screen, pocketed his phone, and walked to the elevator lobby, pressing the elevator button.
The elevator on the fifth floor began to operate... Sixth floor, seventh floor, eighth floor... but when the elevator reached the fifteenth floor, it suddenly started descending, finally returning to the fifth floor.
No matter how many times Sun Hang tried, none of these elevators could ever reach the twenty-ninth floor where he was.
"So, you’re saying... I have to take the stairs, right?"
The small screen next to the elevator door, originally displaying the elevator’s current floor, suddenly flashed with black and white static, and then, the numbers disappeared, replaced by a single Chinese character.
"Yes."
