Hunter x Hunter: War of the Anime Worlds
Chapter 236: Orban and Pigeon Extinction 9th Round Gone Wrong....
Xiang Nan took part in the auction on September 6th—it was the first sale of a Greed Island game set.
The winning bidder? None other than the world-famous billionaire, Battera.
What's interesting is that by then, Xiang Nan had already guessed Kurapika had mostly figured out his true role in the chaos shaking up the criminal underworld. Gon and Killua likely had an idea too.
Still, after failing to join Battera's team, the first thing those two kids did was come straight to Xiang Nan.
Not for anything dramatic—just to ask him to train them in Nen.
They wanted to build their own Nen abilities.
It was a necessary next step. After awakening their Nen and learning the basics, creating a personal ability was the logical move.
Honestly, even without Xiang Nan's help, those two geniuses probably could've figured it out on their own.
But Gon didn't want to take any chances. Worried he might miss Battera's recruitment deadline, he decided to ask Xiang Nan for help.
As for the Ten Dons, the underworld, and the Phantom Troupe—Gon and Killua had never been deeply involved. That was all Kurapika.
Sure, they'd heard some things from Kurapika about Xiang Nan's real identity, which definitely shifted their view of him a little.
But Gon never cut ties.
In fact, when they ran into Xiang Nan at the auction, they even greeted him—and later proactively reached out to ask for guidance.
Naturally, Xiang Nan didn't say no.
Over the next few days, under his coaching, Gon successfully developed his "Rock-Paper-Scissors" Nen technique. Killua, too, learned how to convert Nen into electricity.
And here's the crazy part: even though Xiang Nan trained them for several days, it only took them a little over ten hours to unlock their ultimate moves. Their talent was insane.
With Xiang Nan's help, they eventually made it into Battera's team and earned the right to enter the game.
Meanwhile, Kurapika left Yorknew as a member of the Nostrade family.
Leorio saw him off. Xiang Nan didn't show.
By September 10th, after the last two Greed Island sets were sold, Gon and Killua officially entered the game.
That marked the end of the Yorknew arc.
At that final auction, Xiang Nan also ran into Killua's second-oldest brother, Milluki Zoldyck.
It was obvious he had money—but he was still nowhere near Battera's level. Frustrated, he left in a huff.
And so, the Greed Island arc officially began.
But for Xiang Nan, this part of the story wasn't particularly valuable.
Even if players knew about it, the requirements to join were way too high. Only a tiny handful could actually make it into the game.
And even if someone tried to sneak in like the Phantom Troupe did in the original story—it just wouldn't work.
Even if you found the location, the way Ging and the others maintained and balanced the game left zero loopholes.
The Yorknew storyline had ended, and Greed Island had taken over.
But the Yorknew auctions were still going, scheduled to continue through the end of the month.
In other words, the city was still buzzing.
Every day, crowds from all over the world poured in.
But even more chaotic than the auctions was the state of the underworld.
After the Ten Dons were wiped out, the entire mafia power structure across the continent went into disarray.
Every faction started fighting to fill the power vacuum and take control.
Sure, the Ten Dons had set up systems and even chosen successors before they died.
But come on—it's the mafia.
This was a once-in-a-lifetime chance to reshuffle the entire underground scene.
If you could take out the Dons' chosen successors and grab the throne yourself, it would be a complete reinvention of your standing.
It got so bad that news channels and media outlets around the world were reporting civil unrest and growing instability across multiple countries.
Things were way more chaotic than they were back when Xiang Nan was tagging along with the Shadow Beasts.
And players were starting to show up too.
Some of them—smart, capable, and ambitious—were already making moves early to secure an advantage before the Yorknew arc had fully kicked off.
Others were waiting until after the Dons' deaths to take action.
Bottom line: the underground world was a complete mess.
Some national leaders were even making public statements, threatening to intervene directly to stop the violence.
The underworld's influence was no joke.
In fact, it was only because of the Ten Dons' deaths that a few Kakin Empire crime families—like Xi-Yu, Cha-R, and Heil-Ly—started to gain traction.
They're the ones who'd later show up in the Black Whale expedition to the Dark Continent.
Each of those families had deep ties to certain Kakin princes.
That just goes to show how much raw power came with the Ten Dons' status.
But Xiang Nan? He didn't really care about any of that anymore.
Mia, the head of the Zatobi family, was pretty much guaranteed a seat as one of the new Ten Dons.
That was enough.
As for everyone else—didn't matter.
Right now, Xiang Nan had two things on his mind:
1. How quickly he could absorb and adapt to the Altana energy flowing through him.
2. Whether Pigeon and Orban—who were already deep into their ninth Extinction Game mission—could finish the run and make it back safely.
Yep, those two had entered the "Multiverse" a week ago.
There was one more thing: he was waiting for the right moment to make his next move.
Because, according to the timeline, the next wave of intruders was about to arrive.
He wasn't sure if the storyline would drop them into Yorknew—but if anything weird started happening somewhere on the continent, that would likely be the sign.
Still, based on all the intel he had, Yorknew was the most probable landing site.
That's because the Placement battlefield always connects tightly with the main world's story—just like the first time he joined a ranking match and landed in the King of Fighters world.
Now, with intruders about to land in Hunter × Hunter, Xiang Nan was ready.
He was planning to use the battlefield to finally crush Pariston—the rat—once and for all.
All he had to do now… was wait.
Then, one day in mid-September, while still staying at a hotel in Yorknew, Xiang Nan finally got a call.
The caller was Beishi.
He had a bad feeling the moment he picked up.
"Pigeon's dead," Beishi said grimly. "Orban survived, but he's in bad shape. You need to come—fast."
"At this point… you might be the only one who can save him."
"…Alright."
That's all Xiang Nan said.
He already knew where Beishi was.
He'd been waiting for word on Pigeon and Orban because something felt off—their mission in the Multiverse had gone on far too long.
And when players return, they always reappear where they left.
Beishi had been camped at that spot the whole time, keeping in touch with Xiang Nan.
After all this time, they were starting to believe both of them had died.
