CHAPTER 93: YOUR WORK IS INCREDIBLE

By the time I took Tony to bed after 9pm Louis still hadn’t returned home. I imagined there was so much work for him to do. Unpacking everything about Andrew Gatwick.

When I was in my room I thought I would stay up and wait for Louis however, my lack of sleep caught me by surprise. I hadn’t slept properly the last two days after all. The moment I touched my pillow I went out like a light.

The following morning I found out from the maids that Louis had returned late the previous night but had left early that morning. I was a little disappointed to hear that since I wished I could have seen him before he left today. However, I understood that he had lots of work to do. So I did the usual routine. I helped Tony prepare for school with the maids and said goodbye before he left for school with the chauffeur.

Alone in the apartment I moved around aimlessly. It was strange having nothing to do. At first I thought of Louis. I wondered how the investigation was going but I assured myself that Louis was handling everything just fine.

I then began to think of myself and Tony. I thought of what I was going to do moving forward. As I had promised Louis I was now done working at the restaurant and planned to do something else but what? Louis said he would help me. We would see how that turned out.

I then recalled something I had yet to do. I began to go through my documents in my room, until I found my medical report I had gotten at the hospital. I got so focused on Diana, the divorce, Keith, and Gatwick. However, I could finally get around to doing it now.

I sent an email to the hospital I had gotten the tests done asking if they knew what my symptoms were a sign of. It’s obvious they wouldn’t know what the symptoms were considering as I was dying in the hospital the doctors constantly told me they couldn’t figure it out. However, I was hoping to get in touch with their experts so he could have me an opinion on what he thought.

I then also sent an email to my family’s doctor to ask for medical records of my mother’s illness.

It was in the evening when I saw him again. He had a maid call for me. A wave of relief hit me since I could see him again. My was pounding faster in my chest as I knocked at his office door.

"How are you feeling?" he asked me when I entered his office. He seated at his desk this time going through some documents.

"I’m fine and you?" I asked him.

"A mess, unfortunately, this whole Gatwick situation has just flipped the whole company upside down," he explained.

"How is it going?" I asked.

"We’re working with the police and compiling evidence. What we’re uncovering is beyond shocking. The sheer amount of victims their stories are harrowing to say the least. I still can’t believe this was all happening right under my nose." he said then shook his head.

"Jasmine you really brought something to my attention. Speaking of which," he said as he picked up a file on his desk.

"This is a copy of the folder you gave me. I printed it out," he explained.

"You wrote and compiled all this by yourself?" he asked me as his eyes scanned through the papers in the file.

I nodded my head. "Yes, I did," I replied.

"This is incredible," he complimented my work. "And the fact that you never studied business or accounting on top of that is simply astonishing."

"Thank you," I told him. It felt good to be praised for something I put a lot of effort into.

"Your work has made my team and I’s job so much easier," he said to me. "Your interview with the former employee, Rebecca has been handed over to the police as evidence as well. Isolating all the young female employees made it easier for us to contact them and ask them their experiences. And the anomalies you pointed out in the accounting files are worth looking into. I have the finance department double-checking the right now."

"I’m glad my work was useful," I told him.

"And on the subject of Rebecca she told the people I had sent to reach out to her something very interesting that you said to her." he continued.

My expression changed to nervousness as I recalled how I had lied to Rebecca about working closely with Louis. "Oh, did she?"

"Apparently, you said you work with me?" he informed as his eyes narrowed and he smirked at me.

"Yeah, about that—" I said as I laughed nervously, my eyes guiltily darting back and forth.

"Well then, you’re lucky your lie paid off," he told me. "She told my people that she wants to thank you for helping her," he informed me.

So wasnt about it I thought to myself in relief. smile appeared on my face at that. I was pleased to know I had kept my promise to Rebecca and Louis had reached out to her as I told her he would.

"So what’s going to happen to Rebecca and the other victims now?" I asked.

"Well, now that we have their recountings of what Gatwick did to them, we will help them file a lawsuit against him for the harm he caused. I’m sure Gatwick will be thrilled losing all his money when he has to pay it out to his victims. Apparently, he has around two million saved up I’ll make sure he loses it all. Considering he felt untouchable I’ll show him just how wrong he is," he told me.

Personally, I do wish I could compensate the victims more but the company’s budget is limited. Not that money will fix the psychological damages he’s done to them but still it would be a nice gesture.
