I Am Not A Goblin Slayer
Chapter 33: I’ll Help You
CHAPTER 33: CHAPTER 33: I’LL HELP YOU
The speed at which the battle erupted was swift.
Standing at the forefront of the team, Levin raised his shield horizontally in front of him. With a robust shout, he charged at the goblins’ formation with his shield held high.
Contrary to the clumsy and rigid impression given by his tall and sturdy build, Levin’s speed was fast, faintly showing a white airflow along the edge of the shield.
He was like a fully powered truck, crashing straight into the goblin formation with his Oak Great Shield.
Trailing closely behind him and on his flank were Doyle, Gauss, and Daphne.
"Boom!"
With full power and tonnage, Levin collided directly with several goblins in the front row brandishing small wooden shields.
After an extremely brief struggle.
The immense force from Levin erupted like an undersea volcano!
Five wooden shield goblins were directly knocked back and overturned by Levin wielding his Large Shield!
Following behind Levin, Gauss’s eyes flashed with admiration.
The effect of Levin’s "Large Shield Charge" in actual combat was much better than during training, perhaps due to the feedback from his target, appearing explosively powerful.
The five wooden shield goblins were sent flying, wailing and rolling a few times on the ground, dropping their wooden sticks and small round shields.
Seeing the goblins about to pick up their weapons and shields.
From behind, Doyle leaped out, swinging his longsword downward.
"Whish!"
A flash of cold light.
The next moment, a terrifying blood mark slashed diagonally across the goblin from its left shoulder, leaving the goblin instantly powerless to resist due to the enormous wound.
The goblin was flung back, unable to rise again.
"So fast!"
Gauss felt a bit anxious.
With the five wooden shield goblins scattered by Levin’s skill, their combat strength was greatly diminished.
Although he had decent stamina, his explosive power wasn’t quite on par with Doyle.
After Doyle had already killed one goblin with a single strike, Gauss’s figure arrived.
Luckily, he wasn’t too late.
A goblin in front of him was struggling to get up, clutching a wooden shield and stick.
Gauss wouldn’t miss this perfect opportunity as he reached the front. His arm and wrist exerted force, driving the rapier straight into the goblin’s back.
The sharp rapier pierced its lower back effortlessly, like penetrating tofu, then sliced through muscle, intestines, and lower abdomen.
The rapier skewered the goblin like it was threading through candy apples!
"Whoa whoa!!" The goblin, not yet fully standing, was caught off guard by the sudden attack, letting out a piercing scream.
Gauss managed the rapier in the goblin’s body, stirring quickly, then rapidly withdrew.
Thick blood mixed with some brown, unknown substance gushed from the wound together.
"Goblin killed *1"
"Total monster kills: 19"
Another one!
This effortless kill gave Gauss joy.
Yet before he could continue claiming more.
The spear goblin that had been behind the wooden shield goblins circled around Levin, who was facing off with the Steel Blade goblin, tightly gripping its spear, charging swiftly at Gauss!
A crooked, but sharply edged stone spear lunged towards Gauss with gusting force.
Gauss, detecting the attack, had his brain racing.
The scenery in his view began to slow down gradually.
He wasn’t a novice anymore, just ambushing goblins. Facing such attacks, he appeared quite adept.
With a step, he dodged towards another direction.
Then seized the moment when the spear goblin’s body was stiff, missing its target.
He used Mage’s Hand to pull the goblin, whose body hadn’t recovered its balance yet.
Under normal conditions, this pull might be mediocre, but given the awkward dead force and lack of new force, the effect was naturally excellent.
The goblin was jerked, losing its balance.
"Poof!"
With Gauss’s rapier piercing the goblin’s lower abdomen again, stirring and withdrawing, the moves flowed smoothly.
His experience in killing goblins was growing.
"Goblin killed *1"
"Total monster kills: 20"
Gauss’s eyes roamed rapidly across the battlefield.
Suddenly he noticed Doyle was sending a goblin flying towards his direction while simultaneously knocking its shield away.
"I’ll assist you!"
Rushing ahead of Doyle, he stride forward.
Stabbing the heart of the goblin that was temporarily unable to move after hitting the ground.
Piercing! Stirring!
"Goblin killed *1"
"Total monster kills: 21"
Seeing this, Doyle blinked.
"Thanks."
Something didn’t seem right.
Oh well, since Gauss has helped, let’s resolve the other goblins quickly.
...
In less than ten minutes, time flew by.
The fight ended swiftly.
Gauss looked at the ground scattered with severed limbs of green-skinned corpses, raising an eyebrow.
Calming his breath.
This battle surprisingly went smoothly, so much so that he found it hard to believe.
Could this be the efficiency of teamwork?
Besides the additional "support" where he claimed one more goblin from Doyle, he also used Magic Missile to deal with an archer goblin that targeted him from afar.
In this few-minute frontal battle, exploiting the team advantage, especially the opportunities created by Levin and Doyle, he easily killed 5 goblins in total.
The total number of monster kills reached 23.
Almost halfway to the target stage of 50.
Recalling, the only danger in the entire battle was the last arrow shot at him by the archer goblin.
Fortunately, he dodged it preemptively, and it brushed past the gauntlet.
Good thing the leather armor was sturdy, he wasn’t injured.
Soon after, he killed the archer goblin with a reflexive Magic Missile.
Thinking back, after ambushing and killing 6 goblins without injury, the remaining were only 14 goblins.
Their team had a total of 6 members, discounting Daphne, who was slightly inferior in direct combat, everyone had a significant advantage over the goblins.
Each member possessed one or two attributes beyond average human capabilities, wearing leather armor or better protective gear, with greater strength, faster speed, and better maintained sharp weapons.
This disparity in strength was something a 14 vs 6 numerical difference couldn’t offset.
Swiftly and cleanly finishing off the goblins, everyone took a moment to rest on site before unhurriedly cleaning up the battlefield.
First, they harvested the commission items, the goblins’ left ears.
With daggers and small knives, one by one, they sliced off the goblins’ broad and pointed left ears.
The skilled actions showed that everyone apart from Gauss was experienced, who knows how many goblin ears they’d sliced before.
Collecting the ears, the small bags became bulging.
The task they took on had a decent unit price, with a bounty of 1 silver coin for each goblin.
This small bag amounted to 20 silver coins.
Every member could get roughly a little more than 3 silver coins each.
Though it didn’t sound like much, in different terms, the task reward was enough for Gauss to stay at Sofia Inn with full board for 2 months.
And they only needed to go out for three days, most of which was spent traveling, with the actual work, scouting, setting traps, and slaying monsters adding up to less than 2 hours.
Work for 3 days, rest for 2 months, the yield could tempt those like past-life freeloaders, even if somewhat dangerous, it might lure them to grab the opportunity.
Moreover, their profits from this trip weren’t limited to this.
The goblin spoils, the weapons could sell for quite a bit, revenue not included in the task rewards, was equally considerable.
The only regret Gauss felt was that the two most valuable Steel Blades were severely damaged, likely not fetching particularly high prices.
