I Am Not A Goblin Slayer
Chapter 70: Timely Rescue
CHAPTER 70: CHAPTER 70: TIMELY RESCUE
"Come on! Come at me!" Randall shouted hoarsely with a threat.
Suddenly, a goblin slightly larger than its companions on the far left, let out a sharp screech and charged at him, holding a heavily rusted little knife like a flash of lightning.
It’s over! They’re not scared!
Randall’s mind went blank instantly; his hands had lost the strength to resist.
He could only watch hopelessly as that fierce demon, carrying the stench of filth, decay, and excrement, rushed at him, the rusted knife in its hand enlarging constantly in his vision!
"Buzz——!"
At the critical moment.
From the side, a distinct and highly penetrating whistling sound tore through the air’s silence!
"Pfft!"
The blue light ball lit up the night and, with speed far exceeding the goblin’s charge, struck precisely on its chest side!
The terrifying force and destructive power nearly tore the skin and muscles apart upon contact, and crimson muscle tissues shredded like snapped threads.
The ghastly green, short figure flew sideways abruptly, finally crashing onto a rough tree trunk in the distance.
Its dirty body twitched twice before becoming still, sliding down the tree trunk and hitting the ground.
The other goblins were stunned by the sudden attack and the sight of their companion’s death.
Their murky yellow pupils filled with primitive fear from deep within their blood, their throats moved, and their steps, originally advancing, stiffened instantaneously, slowly turning their heads toward the direction of the attack.
Randall gasped heavily, his heart pounding in his chest, almost leaping out of his throat.
The abrupt change left his mind blank as well, but after realizing what happened, he quickly looked toward the direction the blue light ball came from.
As the sparse moonlight penetrated the forest canopy, a tall, slender figure was silhouetted in the hazy silver glow.
It was a handsome young man.
"Good, just in time."
Saved?
Hunter Randall felt a surge of joy from surviving a calamity.
"Be careful, there are still several more." After a brief moment of joy, Randall didn’t forget to warn the newcomer, speaking in a nearly hoarse voice.
It was nighttime, and the goblins in the forest were more dangerous than during the day; a slight misstep might lead to fatal threats.
"Don’t worry, I have experience, I won’t let them escape." The young man seemed to misunderstand something and nodded calmly.
"I’m the Goblin Slayer."
Goblin Slayer?
Randall was taken aback.
Before he could say anything.
The young man’s figure suddenly moved, like a silver streak rushing through the underbrush.
"Swish!"
With a flick of his wrist, the rapier transformed into a nimble long snake, piercing accurately into the throat of the closest goblin.
Upon closer look, it seemed there was a faint glow on the rapier’s blade.
"Second one."
The young man’s clear voice resounded distinctly in the quiet forest.
A bone short spear was thrown at him from another direction.
"Watch out..."
Hunter Randall widened his eyes upon capturing this scene, but the next moment, the words he was about to say stuck in his throat.
He saw the white short spear, upon touching the young man’s body, emitted an extremely fine blue light flakes, and the force of the impact disappeared like raindrops into a deep pond, with a light snap as the bone spear fell to the ground.
Another goblin, seemingly incited by its companion’s bravery, rolled close and stabbed upward with a stone dagger at the young man’s heart, targeting under the ribs.
"Buzz!"
A ripple appeared again around the leather armor the newcomer wore.
The goblin’s stab seemed to be nullified by a mysterious force it couldn’t understand.
Taking advantage of its momentary daze, the rapier slashed upward from below.
"Slash!!"
The rapier spine ruthlessly cut open its neck, and a head flew into the air amid a spurt of viscous scarlet blood!
"Third one."
The calm voice continued to spread through the night.
However, this seemingly calm voice was, at this moment, no different from a death knell to the remaining two goblins.
After watching three of their companions fall swiftly, the last two goblins finally broke down.
Turning around, they scrambled and crawled toward the depths of the forest to escape.
The young man’s speed was even faster, catching up with the goblin that had thrown the short spear in just a few steps, and pierced through its heart with the rapier.
Attempting to run after an ambush?
"Fourth one."
Then, he pulled out the white bone staff from his waist with the left hand, aiming at the last goblin in the distance.
A blue light ball quickly formed.
"Buzz——!"
The blue light ball shot forth like a stream of light.
It struck the back of the last fleeing goblin.
The forceful attack shattered the body and pinned the goblin firmly to the ground, as viscous blood continuously flowed from the wound.
"Fifth one."
Hunter Randall, leaning against the tree roots, was completely stunned.
This young man’s strength was incredible!
He had seen other strong individuals before, but none so effortless as this person.
With each sword stroke, every goblin life was ended.
One step per goblin, without any redundant movements.
The movements were so clean and precise, it was like slaughtering a group of chicks.
"Are you alright?" The young man approached the wounded middle-aged man, his pair of emerald eyes glancing at the blood-soaked makeshift bandage.
This newcomer was Gauss.
"I’m... I’m fine!" Hunter Randall opened his pale lips. "Thank you for lending a helping hand!"
After everything had settled, Randall felt a profound sense of relief and gratitude towards the handsome man in front of him.
In his eyes, the young man who saved his life and his daughter Taylor’s future was akin to an angel.
Only after enduring hours of torment and despair, can one deeply appreciate how lucky it is to be alive.
"Let me help you treat your wounds first."
Gauss observed the man’s wounds and spoke.
He retrieved an emergency bandage, hemostatic powder, and other basic medical supplies from himself.
Although he had never had to use these items before, he always chose to carry them when heading out.
Perhaps nine times out of ten they won’t be needed, but one must always be ready for that possible tenth time.
Well, here they came in handy.
Gauss skillfully treated the man’s wounds and then carried him, walking steadily towards his village.
"Don’t fall asleep now, hang in there."
"Okay, thank you." Randall gritted his teeth. "Do you know the way?"
He was worried the other man was unfamiliar with the area and might lose his way in the nighttime forest.
"Don’t worry, I just came from your village." Gauss replied, reassuring him.
This time, he had accepted a temporary commission from the villagers, searching for goblins while also looking for a hunter who had not returned from the forest.
Luckily, he arrived in time, managing to meet both objectives.
Saved a life, earned some money, and killed goblins, a win-win situation.
As for returning to the village, he took a look at the map in his mind, which had a clearly marked direction.
You could say, even with closed eyes, he wouldn’t get lost.
