I Am The Only Witch Hunter
Chapter 226: The Commoners
CHAPTER 226: CHAPTER 226: THE COMMONERS
Gigi jerked back and extended her distance with Siderius. This caught the attention of the entire tavern.
Siderius glanced at her but didn’t say anything. He continued to tend to the wounded commoner girl.
Siderius tore the sleeve of the girl apart, revealing the wound beneath. He took out a bottle of alcohol to disinfect the cloth then apply it onto the wound of the girl.
The injured girl’s eyes shot open.
"It hurts! It hurts!" She squirmed.
"Shh. Shh. It’s alright. Hold my hand." Siderius grabbed her hand. "I need to clean this wound or else it would be infected. Infection means death, you understand?"
The girl looked at Siderius. She was hypnotized by his golden eyes and the vertical slits in the middle. She was further enamored by his perfect skin and the dreamy long white hair.
"He looked like an angel," she thought.
His tenderness made her blush. She never thought a man could be this gentle.
Siderius continued to clean her wound then pulled out fresh white bandages from his belt to wrap around her arm.
"You need to clean the wound and replace the bandages twice a day. Understand?" Siderius said.
The girl nodded. Her eyes stared at him without blinking.
Siderius finally stood up and turned to the rest of the commoners.
"I am here to see your leader. I heard it was a woman named Gigi. I want to meet her." Siderius said.
Gigi stepped forward. "You have met her. I am Gigi... My lord..."
Gigi stopped mid-sentence and bowed before continuing. Siderius caught her.
"No need for formality, Gigi. I am not your lord. Actually, I was the one who killed your lord."
"You?!" Gigi gasped. She quickly covered her mouth. She knew Siderius was that witch. But she never thought he would admit it outright.
"Yes. I caused this situation. And I am here to fix it. If you allow me." Siderius said.
"Why did you kill Germort?!" A commoner shouted from the back.
Everyone’s face went pale.
"Are you stupid? This is a high lord! Not us commoners! You can’t speak to him like that!" Another man scolded his friend.
Siderius smiled. "It’s alright, folks. Before I was a high lord, I was no different from you. Actually, you might know who I am."
Siderius pulled his scarf down to reveal his face.
Everyone’s eyes went wide.
"Snow..."
"It’s the actor..."
"Didn’t he..."
"Shut up. Shut up!"
Gigi observed Siderius closely. She also had seen him perform a few times. He was the most famous act in Mucktown at the time after all.
"I killed Germort because he killed River, my mother." Siderius said. His eyelids shuttered gently. Sorrow filled his face as he let out a long breath.
"Germort killed Snow’s mother?! Wait a minute! Isn’t he accused of killing his own mother?"
"Do you really believe that? It is Germort. That snake probably did that."
"But why did he kill Snow’s mother?"
"You don’t know? Germort tried to take River as his concubine a few times in the past. But she refused. He probably had enough."
"How tragic... So Germort blamed Snow for that. I always knew he wouldn’t do that."
The injured girl on the ground suddenly said, "Snow would never do something like that. He is too kind!"
Kind. That’s the word. That was the word that Siderius wanted her to say. He didn’t tend to the girl out of kindness. He did so to show his kindness. Only then would it convince the commoners.
"Please, folks. What happened to me is not that important right now. I came here to help you take back Mucktown."
Gigi squinted her eyes.
"And how are you going to do that?"
"One step at a time, of course. The Mother Tree had gifted me with magic. I will use it to help the town that I grew up in.
The first thing is to save her family." Siderius pointed to the injured girl.
"You said she was attacked by bandits? I have swept the only bandit group around this area. So how..."
"It’s a few commoners in this town. When Germort disappeared, they just... They went crazy since no one kept an eye on them anymore. They took children and women away and occupied the manor that the Bailiff once stayed."
"Well then. The quicker we deal with these bandits. The better." Siderius turned his back and walked to the door.
"Where are you going, Snow?" Gigi said.
He stopped mid-motion and turned halfway. "To deal with the bandits, of course."
"But there are a lot of them." Gigi said.
"My lady. I slaughtered through Germort’s man alone. I killed the witch that haunted this town. These bandits to me are nothing but ants."
Siderius smiled. His smile was weirdly captivating. "Don’t worry. I will return this town to order quickly and bring peace back to all of you. After all, it is my responsibility."
He stepped outside while unsheathing the Blazing Soul. The fireswitch ignited the blade and he drew a fantastic shape in the air before sliding it back to the scabbard.
The commoners inside the tavern were amazed. Their eyes lit up as they admired the beautiful stroke of fire.
Siderius disappeared into the street.
"He called me ’my lady’..." Gigi mumbled in a low tone.
Siderius found his way back to the Germort’s manor. He left Mucktown in a bit of a hurry so that Santa Roberto could be up and running as soon as possible. He knew that there might be a situation like this.
But he let it happen anyway. Because without evil, a hero wasn’t needed.
On the open courtyard of the manor, a few men were there, sitting on a table playing dice.
They spotted Siderius immediately.
"Who is that?"
"White hair..."
"Oh fuck!"
Siderius’ blade came out of the black scabbard and burned fiercely. The fate of the bandits came into an end when they just started being evil for less than a month.
Back in the tavern, Gigi walked back and forth, biting her nails.
"Calm down, Gigi. He will be alright." A commoner said.
"I know. I know he will be alright. But I worry about the hostages there. He could kill them easily but that doesn’t mean he could save all the hostages."
Less than an hour from when Siderius had left, Gigi heard footsteps coming from outside.
The commoners looked at each other and walked outside.
The hostages arrived at the tavern with Siderius standing in front. He held the hand of a small child.
"Look who I found." Siderius smiled.
