CHAPTER 105: CHAPTER 105: I’LL SHOW YOU (2)

Vera Wave snapped back to reality. She quickly stood up, tightened her bathrobe, and stood barefoot on the floor.

"Kris... Mr... CEO, I..."

"Get out!"

Kris Cooper roared in anger.

She didn’t dare make another sound, her steps frantic as she escaped his bedroom.

BANG!

The door slammed shut heavily behind her.

Soon after, a series of strange noises began: first, something crashed onto the floor, then came the sharp screech of a coffee table dragging across it. In the silent night, these sounds were starkly clear.

Vera bit her lip and turned, grabbing her bedroom door handle, only to realize with dismay that her keys were still in Kris Cooper’s room.

She turned back. Just as she took a step towards his room, another loud crash echoed from within.

Vera’s heart leaped, and she quickly retreated in panic.

The spring night was cold. A chill rose from her bare feet, like an invisible, icy hand slowly creeping up her calves and thighs... She couldn’t stop a sneeze and hurriedly pulled her bathrobe tighter.

Huddled by the doorway, listening to the sounds of Kris Cooper’s rage from inside the room, Vera felt a despair that left her tearless.

Well, the plan to offer herself had failed, and she’d ended up offending him. He would surely fire her tomorrow. And what was she to do now? She had nowhere to go, was too afraid to get her keys from his room, her hair was still wet, and all she had on was a bathrobe and no shoes.

The cold intensified. She could only curl up further by the door, pulling her bathrobe as tight as possible to conserve warmth.

BANG!

The door was suddenly flung open.

Light poured in, illuminating Vera, who was huddled in the hallway.

She looked up to see a tall figure standing in the doorway. Backlit as he was, she couldn’t discern his expression.

But she didn’t need to see it to know his face was undoubtedly livid. He was surely here to tell her she was fired!

Vera resignedly hunched her shoulders and sniffled, her nose stinging.

The light from the room outlined her small form. Seeing her huddled up like a kitten, Kris Cooper clenched his jaw and strode towards her.

Before Vera could react, she was enveloped in a warm embrace, and the next moment, she was lifted off the ground.

The man’s breathing was still ragged in her ear, clearly indicating his lingering anger. She shrank back timidly, not daring to look up.

Back in the light of the room, her eyes took in the utter devastation. The entire living room was a disaster zone; almost nothing was in its original place, and countless shards of debris glittered everywhere.

Although she hadn’t seen his tantrum firsthand, the state of the room was enough to tell her she must have driven him mad.

He gently placed her back onto the soft bed. In the next instant, a blanket was wrapped around her, turning her into a small cotton bundle.

The man turned and walked away, returning a moment later with a chipped porcelain cup.

"Drink!"

Steam wafted from the cup; it was hot water.

She hesitated for a moment before reaching out to take it.

Just as her fingers were about to touch the cup, Kris Cooper abruptly pulled his hand back. He turned the cup halfway, so the chip faced outward, before offering it to her again.

The warmth of the cup spread through her palms, making her feel a little warmer inside.

"Thank you!"

She mumbled a dry thank you, still not daring to look at him.

"How much money do you need?"

Kris Cooper’s voice, coming from above her, still held a clear note of anger.

Although he was still clearly furious, her own reason suggested he must believe she wouldn’t have resorted to this if not for severe financial problems.

"..."

Vera was stunned. She really hadn’t thought this far. Besides, wasn’t he still furious just a moment ago? Why was he suddenly talking about money with her now?
