CHAPTER 115: CHAPTER 115 HUSBAND, HUSBAND! (4)
Robert Taylor took the form and turned to sit down, preparing to sign it for her.
"Hold on!" Vera Wave reached out and pressed down on the check. "I remember Manager Taylor saying yesterday that if I brought a million, you would have to kneel to fill out the form for me. Now that I’ve brought one hundred million, how exactly are you planning to fill it out?!"
Robert Taylor inwardly gritted his teeth but dared not let his anger show. It was a one hundred million dollar deal; if he lost it, the branch manager would undoubtedly fly into a rage.
"Miss Wave, what happened yesterday was my fault. Your account... I... I’ll go over it carefully again for you. How about that... is that okay?"
Vera Wave opened her book and slipped the check between its pages. "Since Manager Taylor is unwilling to be my wealth manager, I might as well take my business to another bank." As she spoke, she opened her bag, about to put the book inside.
"Miss Wave!" Branch Manager Song interjected with a smile, "Since you’ve come all this way, you must hold our bank in high regard. We will absolutely provide you with the best service..." His gaze then shifted to Robert Taylor’s face.
"Manager Taylor, are you still not going to help Miss Wave fill out the form?!" His voice was filled with stern authority.
Business at the branch had been slow recently, with no major clients. At last month’s meeting, Branch Manager Song had been harshly reprimanded by the Head Office. There had been no significant results this month either. Now that such a massive deal had landed in their laps, he absolutely could not let it slip away. He was a smart man; he could tell at a glance that there was bad blood between Vera Wave and Robert Taylor.
But he couldn’t be bothered with that now. In any case, Robert Taylor would be the one kneeling, Robert Taylor would be the one losing face. Once the money was deposited into the bank, the achievement would be his.
Robert Taylor took a deep breath. "Branch Manager, this..."
He was, after all, a man of considerable standing and reputation within the bank. If he truly knelt to Vera Wave today, how could he ever face anyone again?
"Hurry up and fill it out!" Branch Manager Song hissed, his voice tinged with clear annoyance. Those two words were an undeniable threat.
Robert Taylor glanced sideways at Vera Wave, gritted his teeth, and slowly began to lower himself. Finally, one knee touched the floor.
Vera Wave shot him a sidelong glance. "Manager Taylor, are you proposing to someone?"
Robert Taylor’s fingers, gripping the pen, tightened instantly. Gritting his teeth, he brought his other knee to the ground.
One must bow one’s head when under another’s roof. He could afford to offend Vera Wave, but he couldn’t afford to offend Branch Manager Song. He had reached his current position entirely thanks to Branch Manager Song’s patronage. If he angered this man, he could be demoted to a minor branch to count cash by the very next day.
Kneeling on the floor, he quickly filled out the transfer form using the details on Vera Wave’s card. Meanwhile, Vera Wave turned her head to look at the assistant standing behind him.
"Miss Mina Federick, is it?"
Mina Federick spoke, her voice dry, trying to squeeze out a smile, but the expression on her face looked worse than if she were crying.
"Mi... Miss Wave, about yesterday..."
"Let’s not dwell on the past," Vera Wave said with a perfectly sweet smile. "Fetch me a glass of water, please. Warm."
With her own manager kneeling, how could Mina Federick dare to disobey?
"Yes, right away!" Mina Federick turned and hurried to the water dispenser. She poured a cup of warm water and, bowing respectfully, presented it to her. "Miss Wave, your water."
Vera Wave reached out, took the cup from Mina Federick’s hand, and with a swift lift of her arm, splashed the water directly onto Mina Federick’s face.
"AH!"
Mina Federick cried out, stumbling back a few steps in panic.
"Oh, I’m so sorry, Miss Federick. My hand slipped!" Vera Wave said, casually twirling the empty cup in her hand. "Are you alright?"
