CHAPTER 139: CHAPTER 139: THE FURIOUS LION (1)
At that very moment, Kris Cooper was like a lion king on the African savannah who had suddenly discovered another male lion in his territory. His dangerous amber eyes narrowed as he scrutinized Nathan Leafcastle’s face.
"Who are you?"
His tone was arrogant, domineering, and provocative, filled with undisguised aggression.
"Who is it?!" Vera Wave opened the door and walked out, still wiping one side of her wet hair with a towel. Seeing Kris Cooper standing at the door, her eyes widened. "Boss?!"
Kris Cooper’s gaze shifted to Vera.
The girl had just taken off her wet clothes and was now wearing a loose set of sportswear, slippers on her feet, and a towel draped over her wet hair.
What on earth is she doing looking like this? he thought. Did she just take a bath?!
Kris Cooper’s expression darkened.
He’d been worried she wasn’t feeling well, worried she’d be cold at night... He had endured more than six hours in a cramped economy class seat. The first thing he did upon returning was to buy her favorite Red Bean Porridge and personally rush it over.
And what does he find? Her, with another man... taking a bath?!
Kris Cooper shoved Nathan Leafcastle aside and strode into the living room, clutching the paper bag. He walked right up to Vera, stared at the towel on her head, and bit out two words through clenched teeth.
"Explain."
That brat better give him a reasonable explanation for why another man is here, and why she’s in this state.
Vera looked up at his thunderous expression and frowned slightly.
"Explain what?!"
Kris Cooper gritted his teeth, forcing out a question.
"What’s wrong with your hair?"
Hair?! Vera glanced at her damp, hanging locks.
So that’s it, she thought. His rage is all because of Ria Chapman.
Recalling the earlier incident, Vera suddenly felt a surge of grievance. She pressed her lips together, her expression turning cold.
"I have nothing to explain!"
Who knows what that girl told him, she thought bitterly. If he trusts me, I don’t need to explain. If he doesn’t, what’s the point?
Initially, he had hoped it was all a misunderstanding, that he was overthinking things, Kris told himself. Perhaps this man was just an acquaintance, and she’d merely washed her hair. After all, considering her... delicate condition right now, she wouldn’t do anything more.
He had been trying desperately to rationalize, to stay calm and composed.
But Vera’s defiant words shattered his efforts, and Kris Cooper instantly saw red.
"Fine!"
He ground his teeth, glaring at the young woman before him. His handsome face was livid, and his hands clenched into fists so tightly that his knuckles seemed to CRACK.
He felt like he could shatter his own bones.
If it had been anyone else, he would have obliterated them by now. But staring at the defiant young woman, he seethed silently for what felt like an eternity before finally forcing out three words through clenched teeth.
"You... are something else!"
He raised his hand, about to hurl the Red Bean Porridge. Seeing this, Vera instinctively flinched.
Kris Cooper’s hand froze mid-air, his fingers, which had begun to loosen, clenching tightly around the bag again.
The porridge is in a thermos, he realized. If it splashes, it’ll scald her!
Suppressing the murderous fury boiling in his chest, he spun around. Fists clenched, he stalked to the entryway, violently swung his arm, and slammed the paper bag with the Red Bean Porridge onto the floor. Then he stormed out the door.
CRASH! The bag hit the ground, the thermos tumbling out. Its outer casing shattered into pieces, the lid flew off, and steaming hot porridge splashed everywhere.
The entryway was a disaster. Neither Kris Cooper’s nor Nathan Leafcastle’s trousers were spared from the scalding mess.
