CHAPTER 141: CHAPTER 141: THE FURIOUS LION (3)
All the way, the man in the back seat kept a stern expression and remained silent. The driver gulped before daring to speak softly.
"Sir, where... are you going?!"
"To the office!"
Kris Cooper coldly spat out the two words.
The car drove into Glimmer’s underground parking garage. Before the car even came to a complete stop, the man had slammed the door and angrily stormed into the elevator.
A moment later, the elevator arrived at the 31st floor, and he strode out.
The staff in the corridor, seeing the man’s dark, grim face, all carefully stepped aside to greet him.
"Sir."
Kris Cooper ignored them, walking straight into his office and slamming the door shut.
The assistants exchanged glances, then hurried back to their seats, not daring to make a sound.
Sitting in his office chair and recalling the recent events, Kris Cooper felt a tightness in his chest, struggling to breathe.
A peculiar sound came from outside the window. He frowned, shoved the desk aside, and turned to walk onto the terrace.
On the terrace, puddles of water still marked the ground, and the bamboo plants growing to one side were leaning haphazardly.
Emily Miller was cleaning the terrace with another assistant. Seeing him, they hurriedly stopped what they were doing.
"Sir, you’re back?!"
Kris Cooper’s gaze swept across the terrace, his eyebrows immediately furrowing.
"What happened?"
"Well, Sir, it’s like this. A short while ago... Miss Wave and Miss Chapman had a conflict here. We’re cleaning up now."
Vera and Miss Chapman... had a conflict!
Kris Cooper was taken aback.
"Which Miss Chapman?"
"It’s Miss Ria Chapman," Emily replied.
"What exactly happened?" Kris Cooper pressed.
"Well..." Emily hesitated for a moment. "We aren’t quite sure about the whole situation. Miss Chapman came to see you. I told her you weren’t in, but she insisted on going into your office, so I had to let her. After Miss Wave came into the office from lunch, they spoke—though we don’t know what was said. A little later, Miss Chapman ran out shouting that she’d been assaulted. That’s when we knew something had happened. Miss Chapman was soaked to the skin, so we helped her change her clothes. It was only when I went in to check things that I realized Miss Wave’s hair and clothes were also wet. I offered her a change of clothes, but she refused. I was worried she’d catch a cold, so I told her to go home, change, and get some rest."
Kris Cooper frowned. "When did this happen?"
"Approximately... an hour ago!" Emily replied.
It takes about half an hour to get to the He Ping Li residential area from here. So, that means Vera’s hair got wet here, and it wasn’t because she was taking a shower, as he’d mistakenly assumed?
"Mr. Cooper!"
Tommy Taylor rushed in anxiously. Seeing the scene on the terrace, he too was taken aback.
"Why are you here? Where is Vera?" Kris Cooper immediately turned and asked.
"Miss Wave... She’s still at home." Tommy gestured to Emily and the other assistant, who, understanding the cue, quickly excused themselves. He then stepped forward, handing a card to Kris Cooper. "She asked me to give this card to you. She said all the money you gave her is in it, and the password is her birthday."
Glancing at Kris Cooper’s expression, Tommy continued, "Sir, I think you may have misunderstood. I heard Miss Wave address the other man as Mr. Ye. If they were intimate, she probably wouldn’t call him that."
"Was she hurt?"
"Well..." Tommy hesitated for a moment. "It seems... she got burned!"
Mr. Cooper, I only lied for your own good!
