CHAPTER 142: CHAPTER 142 THE WALL-CLIMBING CEO (1)

"Are you an idiot? She gets injured and you come back?!"

Kris Cooper shoved Tommy Taylor aside and bolted towards the door.

Tommy caught up. "CEO, Miss Wave’s card!"

Snatching the card, Kris Cooper dashed out of the CEO’s office.

Tommy pulled out his phone and dialed the driver’s number. "Get the car to the elevator entrance. The CEO will be down shortly. Drive him back to the Peaceful Lane neighborhood. Remember, don’t let him drive!"

His boss was clearly agitated. If Kris drove in this state and got into an accident, Tommy knew he couldn’t take the responsibility.

Having spent these past few days around his boss, Tommy had already figured out Kris Cooper’s temperament. The man was undoubtedly brilliant, but his only weakness was his emotional vulnerability. Vera Wave, in particular, was his Achilles’ heel; a single word from that young woman could sway his mood.

Although Kris Cooper had never spoken about his connection to Vera Wave, Tommy wasn’t a fool. From everything he’d observed these past few days, he’d already guessed there must have been a past romance between them.

As someone with experience, Tommy knew it wasn’t easy for a man to truly love a woman. Moreover, this was his own boss; naturally, he’d help in any way he could.

...

...

「Peaceful Lane neighborhood.」

Sweeping and mopping...

Vera Wave’s back felt like it was about to break from cleaning up the congee and the broken thermos from the floor. Looking at the stains left on the wall, she sighed in exhaustion.

When the landlord comes to collect the rent, she’s sure to get an earful.

She wondered what terrible debt she’d incurred to him in a past life to deserve dealing with someone like him now.

Straightening up, she swept all the miscellaneous items on the old magazines into a garbage bag. Bag in hand, she went out and tossed the garbage bag into the dumpster downstairs.

Feeling a bit cold, she pulled her coat tighter and turned back towards the building entrance.

A black car drove up and stopped outside the building. Before the car even came to a full stop, Kris Cooper jumped out and ran into the building.

Reaching the second-floor staircase, he saw Vera Wave unlocking her door.

"Vera!"

Vera Wave turned her head. Seeing Kris Cooper bounding up the stairs, her expression hardened. She pushed open her apartment door, stepped inside, and immediately tried to pull the security door shut.

Kris Cooper rushed forward, trying to grab the security door.

BAM!

Just as his fingers brushed the security door, Vera Wave slammed it shut. Then, she slammed the inner wooden door for good measure, using so much force that the walls of the old building trembled and a bit of plaster flaked off.

"Vera, open up!"

Kris Cooper knocked on the door urgently.

Vera Wave walked over to the sofa and plopped down, pouting and sulking.

Why the heck was he back? Wasn’t one outburst enough for him? Was he here for round two?

So what if she hit someone? It wasn’t like she threw the first punch! Why should she be the one to take the blame...

"Vera?! Darling, open the door!"

The man knocked impatiently, his urgent rapping stirring up the irritation she’d been trying to suppress. With sudden resolve, she stood up, strode over, and yanked open the inner wooden door.

"What do you want?!"

Looking at Vera Wave through the bars of the security door, Kris Cooper anxiously scanned her from head to toe.

"Open the door. Come with me to the hospital!"

What the heck?

Was that Ria Chapman girl still in the hospital, trying to pin the blame on her?

"On what grounds?!" Vera Wave immediately retorted. "She’s the one who pushed me first! I haven’t even settled the score with her yet!"

Kris Cooper was only worried about her scald and wasn’t in the mood to listen to her explanation. "This isn’t the time for that. Just open the door first..."

So he was just going to make her admit fault without distinguishing right from wrong, was he?
